Attendance is very important. Study as much as you can, and study from the book!! He curves your grade in the end, so don't stress out about failing a test. Just talk to him about your grades and he will be understanding. Would definately recommend as a teacher!!

This is an extremely hard class, but Dr. Shon curves your grade at the end. I had a C by the numbers, but he gave me a B. Most of the time I didn't know what was going on in class or what he was talking about, so I literally taught myself everything I could for the exams. It helped to have other students in the class that I knew so we could help each other out.

GREAT CLASS. Dr. Shon is extremely fair and knows what he is talking about. He doesn't waste any time trying to teach you things you do not need to know. He doesn't try to trick you or cheat you out of anything. His lectures aren't upbeat or anything but it's organic chemistry, it's not supposed to be easy. However, his exams aren't too bad. I'm not a straight "A" student by any means and this class wasn't too bad for me. The final is cummulative from organic I and organic II, but he helps you with that too... I promise, take shon, you'll be happy you did

Organic chemistry is a difficult course no matter who is teaching it. Dr. Shon was hard to understand at first but once I got used to the way he spoke, it was fine. His tests are very fair and he even drops the lowest test score and quiz score. The quizzes aren't too bad either. This class (and every other organic class) requires out-of-class work and there is no way around it. Dr. Shon makes it possible to make a good grade as long as you are willing to work on the material on your own.

Dr. Shon seems like a wonderful person. His lectures are all "overhead-based". He hands you a package with the chapter notes, and that is what he lectures from. My problem was not necessarily with him, but how the class was set up. There was not adequate space in the class room, and as soft-spoken as Dr. Shon is, it is nearly impossible to hear/understand him. So, base your decision on class size... he is fine as a teacher, but not audible enough.

Dr shon has been my favorite professor here are Western. There are many topics covered in this course. Dr. Shon covers them quickly, but only because the course demands him to. He gives examples throughout his lecture notes, and many test questions are very similar to lecture examples. Tests cover only what is mentioned in lectures. He has a sense of humor during his lectures, and he also is very helpful outside of class. I would either reccommend Holman or Shon, and since Holman bailed out on us, Shon is the man to take for this one. Good luck!

This class will challenge you, and it will require much of your attention in order for you to do well. Dr Shon is very nice and helpful outside of class. All organic classes are difficult and must move fast, it isn't his fault. For the most part, the tests are designed well. Use your notes as a guideline for what will be on the test, and then use your text book to enhance your lecture notes. Give yourself a week in advance to study for exams and ask questions you don't understand. he doesn't ask test questions that aren't mentioned by his notes. Definately take Dr. Shon for this one; you will be just fine.

This is not a course for lazy bums...you have to work hard, but it can be done. There's just too much material in organic to be covered by any reasonable human being (prof or student) in the course of one semester...this class requires a HUGE investment in personal time (all organic classes go too fast, so it's not necessarily Dr. Shon's fault) The textbook will be your friend, as there's not enough time for him to explain stuff in class. However, he tries to be helpful outside of class...just don't expect him to do the work for you- you need to know at least some of what you're doing. Best help for this class- GET A STUDY GROUP TOGETHER...and the solutions manual. Forget about taking notes during class, take them from the book instead.

Dr. Shon is a horrible teacher. He goes way too fast and doesn't care if the students have no idea about what he's talking about. Upon asking him questions about the material he tells you to "consult your book and notes." We got through the whole book except maybe 5 chapters! Bottom line: he's not a good teacher, take someone else.
