Pfohl is an awesome teacher. This is the most interesting class you will take if you are a Psychology major. He has a story for every disorder he speaks of, so you get a really good idea of what every disorder is like. This helps you relate to the questions on the test. He also has his powerpoints online, so if you print those out and bring those to class you should be golden.

Dr. Pfohl's class was very challenging, but also interesting. He has a great sense of humor, tells many stories and is a very good teacher. He's kind of slow with email responses, but not too bad. There are 14 quizzes and 4 exams. You get to drop 4 of your lowest quiz scores and one exam. You have to put a lot of work into this class for a good grade; the subject is very interesting so, it's honestly not that bad. Go to class, read the chapters, and you'll be fine.

The honors course was the way to go. Our exams were take home exams (3 of them). The final was multiple choice but if you are happy with your grade you don't have to take it. The class may seem unorganized, but just kick back and listen. He tells very interesting stories. Two field trips included in the class and one presentation. This class was cake! Not to mention Dr. Pfohl is a hoot and also feeds you chocolate.

Dr. Pfohl's class was one of the more challenging classes I've taken but was also the most interesting. He has a very good sense of humor, which is key to get though some of the more monotonous chapters in the book. Attendance is mandatory, with 3 absences allowed until it hurts your grade.
There are 14 quizzes taken over the semester (10 T/F each time) over the chapters that will be covered. You do drop 4 of them, leaving 10 graded scores. Perfect if you miss the max three absences plus one extra if you forgot to study a chapter.
There are 4 exams which are multiple choice and five short essays. Each test covers 3-4 chapters and the book is crucial in order to pass each exam. The final exam is optional but is a 100 question cumulative multiple choice monster. The plus to taking the final is that if you take all 5 exams, your lowest score is dropped.
There's also a book report over biographies of those this disorders but you get plenty of time to read and write the paper (5-8 pages).
You also need to complete 25 points of civic engagement which are activities that correspond to the class material. Some examples are depression screenings, anxiety seminars, watching a movie over a disorder. If all else fails, you can do the chapter quizzes on the book CD for 5 pts. a piece.
Definitely recommend this professor if you need to take PSY 440 and want a good experience taking it.

Mr. Pfohl is my favorite psych teacher so far. He makes class fun and he always has a good story to tell. You take a quiz at the start of every chapter which is about everyday but they are true/false and very easy. His tests are difficult but if you study it should be fine. He is very helpful and makes class fun. There is a book report due but it is not big deal and he gives you lots of time to do it. You also have to have 20 activity points but they are easy to get. Take his class! You will not regret it!

This class was challenging, but very interesting. Dr. Pfohl is a funny and caring teacher. Definitely the best class I had last semester. In addition to about four tests you have a book report due, but he gives you plenty of time to do it and grades fairly easy.

Dr. Pfohl is a phenomenal professor. Go into his class with a willingness to learn and you will *not* be disappointed. He's a very kind, intelligent professor who has some of the best (and most informative!) stories on campus.
