Mr. Rigdon tries to teach but does not always succeed. You are expected to know defensive techniques, but without his feedback you do not know if you are practicing correctly. The midterm and final consist of demonstrating the moves learned in class, and he can be very picky on these tests. Each mistake costs you five points. However, I did learn some techniques to defend myself.

This is an easy course. However, in comparison to martial arts classes at a martial arts school the class doesn't compare. Mr. Rigdon's a nice guy but could do a better job at teaching.

This is an extremely helpful class. You will become more aware of your surroundings. Everything he teaches you is pretty simple in ways of self defense. The midterm and final are mandatory because those are the only grades, and they are really not hard. The only times he takes attendance is when a bunch of people don't show up, and he does take points off for that, but you can make up 2 of your absence by writing an easy paper. He is an awesome teacher!

this class is a good class. he is pretty easy as long as you come to class and actually learn the moves. he gives a mid-term and final and expects you to know the moves.

so easy if you show up. gives a few extra credit. 2 tests a midterm and a final, nothing is written, the tests are just like moves and stances.

Mr. Rigdon definately knows his stuff, and pushes his students to do their best. This came in useful, because the semester after I took his class I was assaulted by a man in a parking lot and was able to defend myself. You'll learn a lot from Mr. Rigdon, I think ever female on campus should take his class.

Requires some physical agility. But it .is. a PE class.
Best if you take this with a friend as everything is done with a partner.
He goes over all the moves throughly and will help you if you still have questions.
Exams are over form and correctness of kicks, punches, other moves.
You are allowed to miss one class, other wise you have to make it up during a different class.

do not take this class without signing up with a friend... unless you dont mind wrapping your legs around a strange female's head.
you learn a lot of important stuff in this class, however there is a lot of ground fighting things we learn which require extremely close contact with someone you may not know.
this class is also 1hr 45 min... way to long for a P.E. class.
i am so glad i am done with this class.

Rigdon is a great guy who knows his stuff. He teaches defense very well. The defense moves are pretty easy, except some are a little more complicated and harde to perform. Take this class with someone you know because you do a lot of partner work. The final is performance. All test are performance and he grades tests fairly. He watches for form and proper stance. This is a great class to take to learn to defend yourself, but sadly i cannot remember too much from it.

I went into the class thinking it was completly different. He taught the class like we were going to master karate. We are a bunch of girls taking a 1 hr PE credit that would like to learn some basic self denfense moves (the name of the class) He graded way to hard and had horrible teaching methods.

Dont take this class! I didnt like it! i barely made an A in it and im a good student and athletic (i cheered in high school). For every little thing that u do wrong, u lose 5 points. it was crazy! i bent my hand too much and there was 5 pts off my test! and u only have two tests (a mid term and a final) and that is all ur grade comes from. u can get 5 bonus points on one of them though if u write a paper about self defense. i wouldnt recommend this class though!

This class was really cool. I'm not an athletic person, but I learned a lot about self-defense from this class. He gives two grades, the midterm and the final, where he divides the class up into two groups and has each group do things he's taught during the semester when he tells them to. It's fairly simple

This class wasn't too bad, but it wasn't as fun as I thought it would be either. He doesn't really get to know his students, and probably doesn't want to! However, if you just show up and act like you're trying, I think you'll get an A. Taking this class with a friend would make it a whole lot better because it sucks having to be close and act like you're "attacking" someone you don't even know; don't take this class if you don't want to be practically rolling around the floor with another girl.
I want to warn you that Professor Rigdon DOES take attendance almost every week. If you have to miss class, he'll let you have 1 day without having to make it up. If you have to miss more than that, then you have to go to his karate class to make up any additional days.
The tests consist of a midterm and a final. They are practically identical, and they're not really a big deal. He divides the whole class into 3 groups (you get to pick your partner though) and he makes you do kicks, punches, and a little bit of ground fighting. What I think is pretty unfair about the tests is the fact that he counts off 5 points for each thing that you do wrong. However, the good thing about test days is the fact that you get out about an hour early!
The extra credit is for 5 bonus points to write a 1-page about self defense. He doesn't really tell you what he wants in the paper, but he gives you like half of the semester to do it.
GOOD LUCK!

The class is very easy. Attendence is essential because he takes off one letter grade for every unexcused absence after 1. 5 points extra credit is available. Prepare to stay in class the entire time almost every time though.

Professor Rigdon is alot of fun. He teaches tons of techniques for self defense. It's best to have a friend in there with you because you have to have a partner for the class. He only grades a midterm and a final and attendance is required, but you are able to make up missed classes by attending any of the karate classes. All the moves are easy and require no real skill. For the midterm and final he just asks you to do certain kicks and punches and moves and he grades in groups so he's never focusing on just you.

You think Karate is just going to be punches and kicks and hee-yahs, but not with Rigdon. He loves to make you do wrestling and grappling and self-defense stuff too, which is not fun when you have to get all close to another sweaty person you don't even know. Taking this class with a friend would make this better, but stay away from it if you have personal space issues and don't like rooms that smell like ass and armpits.

Mr. Rigdon is awesome! He makes this class so much fun and it is surprisingly helpful. As long as you show up for class and show some effort he'll give you an A. He's a really nice man who wants to be there and I would definitely recommend this class to anyone.

If you're having trouble with something, he's available to help you out. He grades tough on the midterm and final, but they don't cover too many moves and he spends the class before each reviewing and telling individuals what they need to work on.
