Dr. Blackburn was my favorite professor in the Geography department. He is not a goofy liberal like Daniel Reader, he is a realist but practical. This was a summer class so some of the structure isn't the same as the Spring/Fall. We only had 3 tests, which was ok, but made it nearly impossible for an A. The lectures were comprised completely of the book notes for each chapter. He would just go through the textbook each day, highlighting the key concepts of each chapter. The tests were tricky but not hard, i ended up with a high B, because the first test i got a B- on, if you take him in the summer make sure to study hard for the exams, and you could pull of an A.

Not a terrible guy but I thought he is kinda unfair on grading. He also gets off topic of Kentucky sometimes.

This was by far one of the best classes I have ever taken at WKU. This was my last gen ed needed before graduation and if I had taken him in my freshmen semester I would have strongly considered geography as a major because of him. The test are simple multiple choice with matching on a map or two. You MUST read the chapters to do well in this class, the lecture is not enough ,but if you can manage this, the class is a VERY easy A. He likes to talk about the news every morning before starting the lecture. Sometimes he will do this for 20minutes or more. Keep up on current events in the news every day before class and he'll respect you more for it. I would suggest this class to anyone no matter if it's your major or not. Great guy, great teacher.

Mr. Blackburn is an awesome teacher. He's hilarious and has a genuine concern for his students. His classes consist of lecture and powerpoint. He really knows his stuff. Notetaking isn't too terribly bad but it's wise to take good notes bc most of his test come from what he says. On the otherhand, several of his test questions also come from the book so I advise at least skimming the chapters. The online website for his book is REALLY helpful; especially for the map portions of his test. On the upside his tests are all multiple choice. There are about 5 quizzes throughout the semester on the chapters you cover in class. He drops your lowest quiz grade. I had this class as a night class and he did let us go early a few times. He is willing to help you study in any way he can, and he's very open to questions. I got a B in this class and had to study really hard. However I know a few people who got As really easy. It all just depends on how well you like the subject I guess. I would definitely recommend him! :)

he was a very smart and cool teacher. I never missed a day of class and took all of the notes. However the questions on the test are not always in the notes. You must read the book if you wish to do well in this class. i wish i did.

Blackburn is a great professor. Every other week you have a pop quiz, but as long as you review your notes you should be fine. His lectures were very enjoyable and he knows his stuff. I thoroughly enjoyed his class though I know for most freshman (I'm a senior) it was challenging simply because they weren't used to taking college exams.

This class is really easy if you go every day and pay attention to the maps because they are a very important part of the test. He likes to give pop quizzes, but they normally come after he finishes talking about a chapter in class. If you take the hour and a half class he doesn't normally go the full time. He's funny, entertaining, and a good teacher.

So, I loved this guy. He is very funny, and from what I hear, he's a dream compared to the other options of teachers for this Eled. requirement. I would definitely take him. The last half of the semester was a breeze, and it really took a weight off of my shoulders having the big paper due in the middle of the semester instead of at the end with every other class' assignments.

Professor Blackburn is very funny and nice. He will help if needed. You have two tests- midterm and final, both are 20 short answers and two essays, but believe me they aren't bad. You have projects/assignments throughout the semester that are easy. If you have to take this class, take him.

Blackburn is not a great teacher. He did not like to answer questions and he made several smart remarks during the whole semester. Once we asked a question and he banged his head on the board because he thought we were asking too many questions. I don't know how I got a good grade. He made me feel really stupid. I hated asking any questions.

I think he relies too much on the book and the book that he chooses for the class makes the whole subject confusing. He doesn't spend a lot of time explaining it in class either. But when he does it still doesn't seem simple Don't take the class with him unless you like to study a lot. Start studying in advance other wise drop it.

This could be an interesting course. However, I feel Mr. Blackburn makes this course extremely hard, especially for an elective. I would study for days before the exam and an extra five to six hours the day of the exam and just got a B. You cannot do well in the class without reading the book. He will tell you that it is virtually impossible to receive an A in the class. His exams are multiple guess, because you cannot study enough to know the answer. I felt he was a poor instructor.

Blackburn is a funny guy. He is really knowledgible and you will learn a lot in his class. He gives 3 tests the whole semester and if you screw up on them, you are screwed. I made Cs across the board and thats what I got. He wants you to read everything in the book and take his notes as well. His notes are not on blackboard either. I read most of the book and studied the notes but it was still difficult. He's a good teacher, just hard.

Mr. Blackburn is a very laid back teacher who takes time to know his students. He teaches the material in a way so you can imagine what he's talking about. He relates very well to students and has a very dry sense of humor.
Make sure to not take advantage of his attendance policy, but the class goes quickly and is enjoyable.
I would highly recommend him for any class at WKU.

A word of advice: Read and Study to ace the course. It is fast paced and reading intense. Blackburn is fair and offers a favorable insight into a normally dry subject area. Take the course, I have had three from him, and read the text. You will learn and learn well.

Mr. Blackburn is a great teacher and he knows his stuff. There are quite a few notes, but he thoroughly explains them so that they are easy to understand. His tests can be difficult to remember 2-3 chapters worth of inforamtion, but if you pay attention in class and lightly study you will do fine.

The class isnt real hard. But its by no means easy. Blackburns real cool and pretty leniant. he is kinda funny in a dry sense of humor way. His class is tough. You have to listen, study, read the text and take good notes. If you work..regardless to how smart you are...you can ace the class. But u cant just sit back and expect an A. I did at first...and I wish I had caught on a lot sooner.

Mr. Blackburn is my favorite teacher at Western. He is easy, fun, down to earth, and always willing to help you. He requires you to buy the book, but I never read one page of it. We do have to take notes, but the test is exactly like the notes. If you study them, you will make an A in the class. He allows you to miss 7 days, and if you miss more, you fail. But surely, you won't miss that many. You have to take him. He's great!

Mr. Blackburn was a great professor. I enjoyed having him even though his class can be boring at times. His test do tend to be hard because he test over lots of info and has questions over areas that were easy to overlook when studying. I would recommend studying after each chapter which I found made it easier. Overall I learned a lot in his class and enjoyed Mr. Blackburn very much.
