This course is only difficult if you don't study. You have four exams and they are really in detail so you better study at least two hours everyday for a week before each exam. If you have Dr. Mason you're in good hands, if you get a TA you better have a good one.

Prof Mason was a wonderful teacher for a difficult subject. I took his summer class. His notes are very detailed and are all you need for the exams. (except a 3-4 MC questions on the required reading for the lecture tests)
The Lab exam were very difficult for me due to the amount of memorization needed expecially for Lab test 2 (bones) and 3 (muscles). However, he does tell you exactly what you need to know and how to study for it. I am looking forward to taking him for A&P 2.

Dr. Mason is the best teacher I've had so far at WKU. He genuinely cares about each student, and is a very nice guy. The class is hard no matter who your teacher is, but if you have to take it I would definitely recommend him. He Explains everything so that you understand it and actually learn. He also give pneumonic devices in order to remember certain things. A lot of memorization, but with Mason it's a lot easier.
His tests are 100 questions: 50 practical, 50 written.

If you have the opportunity to take a class taught by Dr. Mason, DO IT!!!! He is awesome!! very laid back and nice. He tries to get to know his students and he is a wonderful professor. Be prepared for this class, it's not easy. I had to hit the notes hard to get an A. but every question comes directly from the notes. Only hard thing, the questions are fill in the blank and spelling counts so be prepared for that. (He will warn you about this though) But if you need help, he is happy to help ya out.

The class is hard. Exams are fill in the blank and you need to study for like a week to Ace to them. On the first test, Dr. Mason adds 5 points to get everyone used to his style of exams. other than that, there is no extra credit or anything. On the up side, Dr. Mason is the BEST teacher I have ever had! He is absolutely wonderful. He explains difficult material in a way that you understand. He's a genuine person that tries to get to know his students, which is rare. And he always seems to be in a good mood. I loved Dr. Mason!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111

The course consists of two field trips to bird watch, three exams (one of which is a practical) and a final. The final is over identifying major birds. No attendance necessary and the textbook is field guide. His exams come word for word from the notes. I SUGGEST!

Mr. Mason is a wonderful person. He tries to make the information interesting. If at all possible he relates it to real life things so you better understand it. He is always willing to help you if you don't understand the concept, you just have to ask him. If you have accommodations he is willing to accommodate you in the ways which are specified in your letter. There is a lot of information to know for the tests but it is a 300 level class. He gives you no surprises on tests. What he goes over in class is what is on the tests.

Dr. Mason is a wonderful teacher! He is always around to help you if you need it. The only grades in his class are the tests and they are farly difficult, but easy to do well on if you go to class, pay attention, and study a couple of nights before the exam. Dr. Mason is a well-rounded, funny guy and will entertain you during his lectures so it's not boring you to sit there for an hour and a half.
WARNING!: The lab exams are a lot harder than the lecture exams, and you REALLY have to memorize the notes and study for them way ahead of time.

Dr. Mason is probably the best teacher I've encountered so far at Western. That is saying a lot because I haven't really disliked any of my teachers, finding them ready to help those who ask and want to succeed. Dr. Mason, especially, establishes a relationship with each student and knows most by name. He encourages questions from students and wants us to ask him for help or just stop by and talk with him. He is very invested in his students and wants them to excel. He writes a lot of notes on the blackboard, but if you copy them all and study them and memorize them well, then you will do fine on the tests. You have to study, because winging it is not possible, especially in biol 231 (anatomy and physiology 2) which I am taking right now. Those tests are more fill in the blank and definitions-no multiple choice. In both classes, attendance, note taking, and studying are important. If you do all of those, you will do fine. And it doesn't hurt that Dr. Mason is very approachable and funny.

Mr. Mason is a wonderful professor! He makes sure you understand everything before he moves on to something else. He stops his lecture to explain something, which I really liked. He is really nice and helpful and is very concerned with his students. He often would ask me about my other classes and would make sure I was doing alright. He really cares about his students, and that is really nice since other professors don't act like they want to be bothered with their student's concerns. I would definitely recommend Mr. Mason for this course. The textbook is not required, I bought it and never opened it once. ONLY study your notes because that is all you will need for the class. The course can be hard, but if you will study for the tests you will be alright. On your first lab & lecture tests he will give you 4 "free points" because he says you're "getting used to the way he does tests" so that was really nice! For lab, get ready to use those microscopes!!!

I would definately take him for lecture and lab if you can. The tests aren't that bad either. You have open labs the weeks before the test so you can look at the material. I would highly recommend him.
The only bad thing is he doesn't answer emails. Its very hard to get a hold of him. You have to go to his office if you do want to speak with him, but he is rarely there.

Dr. Mason is an awesome teacher who truly cares about the students he teaches. With so many students in his class, it's hard to believe that he knows everybody, but believe me, he really remembers faces! As far as the class goes, it is very possible to get an A in lecture, but the lab is a differnet story. There are four test in lab and four in lecture. The lab test is just a blank sheet of paper with 100 blanks; so studying ahead of time is the key to do well. The lecture's are exactly what you cover in class, so take good notes! Overall, you will learn a lot in this class and Dr. Mason is great!

He is an all around good natured person, willing to help, and good at what he does!

even though you take a lot of notes...he writes everything you need to know on the board. his tests come straight from his notes and you don't need the book at all, just the lab manual for lab of course. I love Dr. mason, he's a great guy and I learned a whole lot from him.

This was definitely one of the hardest classes I have ever taken, but Dr. Mason is by far the best teacher on campus! As hard as this class is, he makes sure that you understand everything. The exams are not multiple choice, they are mostly fill in the blank, so you really have to study for them if you want to pass. However, the exams are ONLY based on the notes he gives, so write down everything he does, study and you will be fine. As for the book, I didn't have to use it even once because the notes he gave us were so good. Overall, although this was not an easy class, it was a lot of fun, and Dr. Mason is a really cool teacher!!

This class has been one of the most difficult courses I have ever taken in my life but Mr. Mason is an AWESOME teacher. He REALLY cares about how his students are doing in his class and is always willing to set aside time for them when they need it. While this is a difficult course and shouldn't be taken lightly he is a GREAT teacher.

Mason is a very good teacher and I really like the way that he teaches. If you have a question be sure to go to him in person and he will be glad to help you as much as he can. There aren't very many notes in his class but if you happen to miss a class, do make sure you get the notes that you missed from another classmate. Overall I really like Mason and he is a very down to earth person and that is what I like about him. I would STRONGLY recommend him to have as a teacher!

Granted this is anatomy so it's going to be difficult but I would have to say that Mr. Mason is by far one of the best professors at Western. He reaches all of his students on a personal level. Make sure he knows who you are in his class. He is very very informative and he makes it so interesting. HE truely cares about his students as long as they care about his class. I loved his class even though it was my hardest. TAKE HIS CLASS!!!! YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!!!!

There aren't words to describe Dr.Mason. He is really the best professor you can take. He knows his information well. He walks in class everyday without a notebook or anything like most professors. He gets the notes straight off his head. I am a Bio-Pre-med major and I must say that he is the only professor that has taught me anything. I loved this class. I could have made a much better grade than what I did if I would have actually studied in advaced instead of the night before. Everyone should take this class. If you can't take it with him, don't take it!

Dr. Mason is an AWESOME teacher. He really cares about his students and will try every way in the world to help them. He is always there for you, whether you want to talk to him about the class, or problems you have outside of school. He hasn't forgotten what it's like to be a student, and understands what we are going through. Although this class is very tough, the notes seem endless, and you have to work your butt off to make a decent grade, it makes it a lot better to have a great teacher.

I love mr. mason. he has made my college career as much better. he will do ANYTHING for you to help you. his class is difficult, but only because he wants to prepare you for nursing. he writes down anything he says on the board. so he practically gives you the notes. You must be there, you must pay attention and listen. Know ANYTHING for his test. Somehow he puts anything on his test. He will notify you in advance when the exams are. There are only 4 exams and that's it. I usually have about 22 pages of notes per exam. But if you start AT LEAST one week before the exam , you should do just fine. Your lab and lecture grades are one grade. So do good in both. He is just so excellent. I would highly highly recommend him.

Basically the class is straight leture you take notes and that is about it. Tests are just over notes so you should be fine if you took good notes. Lab is perrty easy not much to memorize. This is a very enjoyable class!

Hands down, Dr. Mason is the best teacher at Western. He is not that teacher that is going to hand everybody an A. He is going to make you work for your grade and learn the material. He is willing to help anybody, especially if he knows you are trying. If every teacher was so engaged with his students and truly cared about them, school would be a heck of a lot better. I've never had a teacher that gives you so much respect that you have no choice but to give him an equal amount of respect back even if you are failing the class. He is an awesome teacher!

The notes for this class are definitely overkill but its the only way to learn the material. Dr. Mason is an excellent professor, probably the best or one of the best that I have ever had. He knows his stuff and he is able to explain it in a way that is easier to understand. The book and lab manual were used very little, mostly as back up for what he lectures on in class. Also, he will usually drop the lowest test grade that you have made, either in lecture or lab and then double the next lowest grade. This can be helpful is you totally bomb a test. Also if you go to class every time and show improvement in your grades, he will very likely bump your grade up if you are borderline. I took this class as a 5 week summer session and it could have been a lot worse, but I think Dr Mason did a good job of paring it down to the bare essentials. He is also the first prof I have ever had to inquire about what is going on in my life and if everything is going okay. I was a little put off by this at first until I talked to some classmates and found out that he does this to everyone! Bottom line, Dr Mason is a great guy and an excellent professor. I would take another class with him in a heartbeat!

I heard so many horror stories about this class. Ended up - it's really not that bad. Lots and lots of memorizing. As long as you take the TIME to study and learn the material, an A is no problem. There are no tricks, just a huge amount of stuff to learn. You'll get the grade that you deserve. I took this as a summer course. As for Mr. Mason - he is wonderful! He treats everyone like he/she is the only student he has.

This is an extremely difficult course- IF YOU DO NOT STUDY YOU WILL REGRET IT. It's that simple. Study and you'll do fine. If you stay on top of studying youll breeze right through. The textbook as well as the lab manual (the lab requires about 5 times as much studying as the lecture) are extremely useful in this course. Be sure you buy both.
