Tim is an amazing person. He is really funny and sarcastic and if you take his class you will have a lot of fun. He really wants you to learn the language and as long as you put in effort, he'll help you. There are a bunch of quizzes, a lot of homework, and a few tests, but they all really help you learn the material and are based on the things you did in class. The quizzes are basically word for word things you've done in class or as homework. There are also a lot of extra credit opportunities. Oh and of it is football season, I'd cheer for the Packers, because when they win, he usually gives extra credit.

He gives you work because he wants you to learn. If you don't do it, which some of my classmates didn't do, they fell behind. He really loves the language and the culture and gives his own interpretation of current events in Germany. He always encourages you to do more. There is plenty of extra credit, and if you don't do it, don't beg for it at another time. He is really fair about it. His exams are very fair. After the first one, you really see how it all works out and they are not stressful. I didn't have to work horribly a lot to get an A. In the end, I had fun and I am happy I took the class and 102 with him as well.

Overall, this is a difficult course to keep up with. He does quizzes sometimes multiple times a week. There's homework nearly everyday, more often than not. And the exams are more comprehensive than he prepares you for. There are free tutors available, but I didn't ever have time for that. It takes him way too long to answer emails. Sometimes he wouldn't answer my emails for days, and they were already irrelevant at that point. He is very enthusiastic about the language, which is good. But he expects you know and understand vocabulary he hasn't taught or used, and your grades will suffer for it. However, many many people who have had both Anderson (the only other professor teaching this course) and Straubel, and have said Straubel is the better of the two.

Professor Straubel is nothing short of wonderful. He is an amazing teacher and he's also quite funny. The class might be a breeze, but you will learn quite a bit of German in a short amount of time. I highly recommend this professor to all students interested in the language.

Professor Straubel is awesome! He's really funny and makes German fun to learn. German 102 is harder than German 101 though and he does make it a lot more difficult. I also had German 101 with him. In German 102, you have more projects and assignments. For instance you have to perfrom a skit in German and you have to memrize a German poem. Overall, I would take him again.

German has to be one of the easiest languages to learn for native English speakers. This class was very easy. I definitely recommend it. The classroom environment is also very nice; you will know most peoples' names by the end of the semester. It's a lot of fun.

I LOVE GERMAN!!!! I took Spanish in high school and I didn't remember enough of it to take Spanish 2 here, so I took German. And I love it now!!! Professor Straubel is the best German teacher. I learned a lot and now I can speak a litle bit of German and read and write German as well. I think German is a whole lot easier than Spanish. I had to study a lot though, because well it is a foreign language. But if you take German, take it with Mr. Straubel.

Ich liebe Tim!! Ich liebe Deutch sprechen!!! Tim is a wonderful teacher. He's very funny and outgoing during class and he makes it fun. Sometimes when he only speaks German he's a little bit nerve wracking, but you get used to him fast because he is very much into class participation. He won't sit there and lecture you, he makes you a part of it throughout the entire class. I thought German would be hard, but he makes it interesting and easy to remember. Not only that, but the tests aren't bad, just do the Arbeitsbuch (workbook) and you've pretty much done the test. And sometimes he likes to talk about when he taught in Germany and he tells us lots of cool stories...and he cusses, but it's always really funny when he does.

Of course no foreign language is easy to learn but German is not that hard, ecspecially with professor Straubel. This was my favorite class fo the semester and most of it I couldn't understand. lol. A lot of the words sound like English and the hardest part about German is learning all the little sentence structure rules and things of that nature. His test are very easy and as long as you put forth an effort you will get by in this class. There is homework every night which sucks but it's nothing major and the answers are in the back for some of the stuff. You get a taste of German music every Friday which can be interesting at times. Also, when he comes into class the first day and speaks German for the first 30 minutes don't be freaked out.

Tim is a wonderful (wunderbar) teacher! He gives a lot of assignments and you really have to keep up with your homework or you will not do well in his class. He is super nice and a fun teacher! He gives study guides that are a lot like the exams. He is personable and enthusiastic. He makes learning German fun--as weird as it may seem! You should take Tim, you don't have to study yourself to death and you can still do well! He offers several extra credit opportunities! Definitely take him!! His class was a blast!

tim is pretty cool. he does go a little overboard on the handouts and overheads, but in the long run it helps, the only thing that sucks about the class is he has sever cotton mouth and gets the white spittle in the corners of his mouth and it just accumulates there. so if you have a week stomach don't take it. other than that it's great!

“Over the top" would be a good description of Mr. Straubel. He's got a good sense of humor and doesn't mind doing crazy things to get his point across. Mr. Straubel often had small exercises that made so you practiced your German in class, but it also served to help you get acquainted and comfortable with your classmates. There were quizzes about once a week, and we had four tests. The final was somewhat cumulative but mostly focused on the last information that was covered in class. We had to do a small research project on a German town and do a PowerPoint presentation in class. By the time we started those, we were comfortable enough with our classmates that it really was no big deal. German with Mr. Straubel was a good experience.

Tim is a great teacher. He makes class fun and enjoyable. I had him for 2 semesters, and even though I made a C in his class, that was my own fault. I had no interest in learning German so I didn't pay attention. If you actually try you'll probably make an A. I probably should have failed the course, but I walked away with a C, what more could you want?

I loved Mr. Straubel. He is an excellent teacher. I had Tim for a 2 bi-terms, both in the first semester. Having german 5 days a week for the whole semester would usually be an overkill for anyone, but Tim made German extremely fun and easy to learn, so I actually looked forward going to class. I highly recommend Mr. Straubel.

Tim Straubel is a great teacher to work with, he realizes that German is a difficult language, and that more than half of the students in the class are taking the language to fulfill requirement, not to go to germany. If you attend class everyday and maybe studying 30 min before the test, you'll do fine, and by fine I mean recieve an A. I didn't take 101 with him, and was still kept right on track. All of the notes are usually already on Blackboard, or he prints them out for you. The final is considered cummulative becuase it has like a whole 5 questions from previous chapters but the weight of it is the last chapters you cover.

I thought German was going to be difficult. It turned out to be the opposite. I actually learned alot in this class. Tim is a quirky, fun northern guy. He must really like to grade homework though, cause you'll have homework assignments almost every night. I would freak out for his tests, because he made it seem like they were going to be difficult, and they turned out to be easy. Half of the time, I just looked over my notes before class, and ended up making A's and B's. His quizzes are easy and sometimes he'll let you work with a partner. So, if you want to learn a new language, take Tim.

Timmy knows his German, that's for sure. I actually enjoyed going to this class. I learned so much and it was actually fun. The only thing I didn't like about the class was all the "busy work" he gives you to do. It's not hard at all, just time consuming. He also likes to call on people during class, so pay attention. Overall, he made this class fun. He's a pretty funny guy and he'll crack jokes and pick on people. Take him!!

Tim makes learning German EASIER than easy as pie. There is homework every night, but it does not take long to do and most of it (the workbook pages) is turned in all at once--so it's okay to get a few days behind. You have to pay attention in class and he will often call on you. Since you have to take a foreign language class, his is an excellent choice.

He effectively teaches the material so that you learn it in class. I rarely studied for an exam. You will have homework almost every night, but it only takes a few minutes. Take the class!

Tim is a great guy and a good teacher. He is easy to relate with and will help you if you ask. Don't expect to just not show up to class and him help you out though, as long as you show some type of initiative and aren't a completely lazy sack, you should be able to get an A. He offers extra credit sometimes, and everything is easy to learn. I would recommend him for the mandatory foreign language requirement.

This was an excellent course that I would recommend to anyone planning to take German. He is an excellent and very capable professor. Some people may be aggrevated by the fact that he will talk to you in german consistantly and that he expects you to talk to him back in german. However, I think this was the best way to learn. Unlike many other courses where you have to choose an easy class or a good one, this one is both. Not to say you dont have to work but he is very willing to work with you and never has you walking out of class confused. One final note this is the only class this semster that I enjoyed going to. How many classes can you say that about?
