Mr. Foster is absolutley the worst teacher I have taken. This is a 400 level class and we don't even have a book so our tests were pretty much all from our notes and lectures. His slide shows are full of pictures and he is very vague on what he wants from his students. His tests are extremely hard and we get pop quizzes about once a week that are just from random things he says during class. I do not recommend anyone take him unless they want to be stressed all semester.

Foster is an approachable person, and he gives hints throughout the semester on what you "really" need to know. However, this class is very boring and the book absolutely sucks. (I stopped reading after the first chapter.)
He changed the syllabus slightly on us. We were supposed to have quizzes, however, we only had 1 the whole semester. He cut one of the 3 projects we were supposed to have and just counted our highest one twice.
The tests are difficult. However, the only thing I did was type out the definitions for each chapter and studied those. I ended up doing fine with just that. Attendance does actually (despite the suckitude) help, somewhat. He gives a participation grade.
The test was "kinda" cumulative. You do need to apply concepts from earlier chapters in order to do well in answering your essays.
There is no homework...except the projects.
Have fun.

Foster is a cool guy but not a good teacher for this course. He needs to stick to climate and planning classes.

Dr. Foster is a real nice guy, but this class blows hard. Its the hardest class I have ever taken. I havent completed it yet, but I hope I pass it. Its kind of hard to take notes the way he teaches and the tests are really tuff. His methods of grading are very vauge. He moves to fast with the material as well.

The class is pretty easy, but he has a bias way of grading. He thinks that if you don't talk in class, you won't have an "excellent." His philosophy is that you get an A if you do an excellent job, a B for a good job, a C for an average job, a D for a below average, and an F for everything else. I participated in class every day, always including myself in the discussions. I got an excellent on my project, and always had at least a 7 out of 10 on the quizzes and essays, but I still got a B. He doesn't clearly explain the subject area enough for anyone to understand exactly what he means. His essays are more for grad. students. I don't reccommend this professor at all.

This class was aweful. I stayed stressed out the whole semester. We didn't have regularly scheduled tests, instead we had weekly pop quizes. They were either multiple chioce or two essay questions. He didn't give number grades. He gave ex. 7/10 on multiple choice and on the essay it was check plus or minus. It was hard to know exactly how you were doing in the class. We did two projects, that were my saving grace. The second project was an essay that took the place of our final. The topics we had to choose from were hard to understand. The class was boring and he used the overhead projector all of the time to show graphs and charts. If you like Geography this might be your type of class but not mine.

This was the class from hell. Dr. Foster is a great guy, but he didn't seem to understand the difficulty of the material that he was teaching. Everything was way over the class's head. THIS IS A MATH CLASS, not a geography class. Sadly, it is required for many. Three or Four big projects make up the majority of the grade, and they are pass or fail. There are also Three or Four big tests, which are hell. Everything is conceptual, and he just kinda buzzes through it in class. We didn't even get to the applications of statistics in geography.
The concepts are not that difficult, its just the way that he explains them. Final grades were on a curve, but I think that's just because he felt so sorry for us. If you want to learn something that you can use and avoid an information overload migraine, take Deal.

This class wasn't too bad. The notes you take in class barely help on the tests. the tests are hard. I had to study a lot for them. You need to know a great deal of information from the book to do well on the tests. they are all multiple choice, and some tests had essays. Most of the class usually failed the tests. one of the tests, only one person out of 60 got an a. there is an opportunity for extra credit projects. that can help your grade a lot.

Lecture is easy to follow but the test are REALLY hard. On the first 2 test a 50 or higher was a "C" and if you took them you passed. This is an alright class just very difficult.
