Dr. Wininger makes you participate in class. If you are one of those people who likes to sit in the back and do nothing, don't take Dr. Wininger because he won't put up with it. Personally, I loved how he made us participate because it made me learn so much more than I would have if I had just sat and listened. He really knows what he's talking about and if you really have the need to learn, he's the teacher for you.

This was my favorite class I've taken in college. Dr. Wininger is a little intimidating at first because he's so smart, but I learned so much in this class that actually is relevant to my future. Dr. Wininger teaches the way he tells us to teach and really wants you to be a good teacher. I wouldn't say this class is easy, but Dr. Wininger made it easy to learn the material. Definitely take him!

Dr. Wininger is an excellent teacher who cares about teaching and consistently researches for room for improvement. Yes, the class is not easy and I missed a B by one point, but I highly recommend a teacher that cares to teach a student over an easy A that most students forget what they were taught because the class was to easy. Great guy and wonderful teacher.

Dr. Wininger can be a bit of a jerk. He thinks he's always right and will not believe anything unless research proves it. This class can be kind of tough to sit through because he is so annoying. I was recommended by a friend to take this class and it wasn't a good decision. If you want someone who can respect his student's views don't take Dr.Wininger.

This class was very interesting and Dr. Wininger really knows what he is talking about. He is very strict about getting to class on time- if you are late more than twice he makes you turn in a "plan" for not being late again. He starts class exactly on time and lets out exactly on time. Go to class- there are often questions on exams directly relating to lecture material that you can't find in the text. Exams were mostly multiple choice and true/false. Study the learning objectives he posts on the course website-these really help when preparing for the exams. There are a few out of class essays but they didn't have to be very long. There is one huge project due in the middle of the semester. Just make sure you answer everything he asks for in essays and the project! He has a powerpoint but it is kind of difficult to follow. The exams have a lot of questions that involve reading a real-world example and then choosing which theory or concept applies to it. Dr. Wininger is kind of OCD, so make sure you have everything done exactly the way he asks for it.

Dr. Winiger was great! You can really tell that he enjoys his job and loves teaching about teaching. His enthusiasm makes the class very enjoyable and not difficult at all. He's very good at explaining EVERYTHING and loves to hear your feedback. He had a few opportunities for extra credit, but if you study for his tests and quizzes you probably won't even need it. There are three quizzes that are scantron and open book over material not gone over in class. You read it on your own. The tests are also scantron and fairly easy if you study a night or two ahead. I advise everyone required to take this course to take him!

Dr. Wininger is a nice guy. When I first read the syllabus before the semester started, I was concerned, but the material isn't that hard at all. If you play or have played sports before, most of it is common sense. His tests are strictly from notes and material that he puts on his website. The only times I ever used the book was for the 2 quizzes. The quizzes are open book, but the questions are a little more challenging than his test questions simply because you have the book in front of you. He likes to do group activities/discussions, which helps to break up the lecturing and provides an opportunity for the students to apply what he has been talking about. If you can't make an A or B in his class, you probably shouldn't be in college in the first place.

This class was very easy. The only thing that sucks is there is a moderate amount of notes, because he speaks from powerpoint. There are three quizes and they are all open-book. There are 3 tests and they are all MC, matching, and T/F, very easy. You have two critical performances for your Electronic Portfolio, but they are very simple. You also have a couple other simple assignments, but nothing that ever takes a lot of time or anything. He's pretty nice, but he's extremely obsessive with time. Never ever be late to class. If you are tardy or miss like two classes he makes you have a conference with him in his office, but other than that, he's really young and energetic and enjoyable to have a class from.

Dr. Wininger is a great prof. He's very interesting and relates all the concepts he teaches about in his lectures. He does a lot of activities to further encode the material. There is also a great deal of small group discussions to break up the lecture time. This class actually seems worthwhile to future educators unlike some of the other education courses.

Dr. Wininger is AWESOME! Unlike a lot of professors he really engages the students in active discussions and doesn't spend the whole time with lecture. He really expects you to be on time and be in class every time, but it's no big deal. I really looked forward to his class because he REALLY enjoys what he does. He makes a lot of corny jokes, but they actually help you to remember the material. The tests are all multiple choice. Also there's a reason that he tells you about his hobbies and interests...those are some super easy questions on the first test. He's kinda quirky sometimes but in general he's really a good guy. He helps you to relate your own school experiences to what you're learning about the education system. i'm a psych major and this was not even part of my major, but i would recommend this class to anyone to fill up a university elective and if it's required for the major, definitely take this guy!

No, I didn't laugh at his corny jokes. No, I didn't find his class to be interesting and enjoyable. I found it to be stressful and painful. Try studying for his test for 4 hours and get a poor grade. Not an easy class for me. I hate, NO, I despise his teaching strategy. You know, I thought a PowerPoint was supposed to be helpful. You can't read his, nor understand what the hell is one there. It's all jumbled together and makes NO sense. I am a junior and this is the first class I am going to receive a C in. But honestly, most people enjoy his class and the material very well, but it's not effective for me. I think he's frustrating and confusing. Also, if you decide to take his class, be prepared to GET INTO GROUPS 2 and 3 times a class period, so he can take a break from teaching, if he's doing any. Excuse me Mr. Wininger, but YOUR job is to teach NOT let a fellow student teach me in-class. I come to class to hear you ramble, not listen to what some student did last night at their frat or sorority house. And another thing, his tests are by far the worst. Studying for them does not help at all. Believe me, I've tried. I make a better grade when I study the least... his notes confuse me more. He makes up scenarios that would give Einstein's head a spin. As a future educator, we are not going to be faced with a situation THAT confusing as the scenarios that we cannot figure out how to motivate a student. Another thing that has been on my mind is how he WASTE so much class time. He gets into discussions with students as WASTE 5-10 min. of MY time. Time that he should be explaining stuff clearly instead of trying to argue with a student so he can prove that he's right and their wrong on something. I think this man thinks he's perfect and never made a mistake in his life. No, Mr. Wininger you're not perfect. You make mistakes too. Everything you think is NOT right. Your opinion isn't the only one that matters. The only thing I learned from his class is how to NOT teach, which he demonstrates for us everyday. I found his class to be more frustrating than Christopher Reeve trying to do the hokey pokey. And that's not to knock Mr. Reeve, but I hope it gives you somewhat of an idea the pain he will cause you.

Dr. Wininger tries to keep his students on track, and not bore them to death. If you keep up with the work, and study for the tests, you should do fine. The comprehensive final wasn't that bad. I didn't like Dr. Wininger's teaching style. Did anyone ever teach him how to do power point and suggest the 6 by 6 rule??? He has way too much information on one slide that it becomes difficult to understand. He was very accomadating when it comes to rearraging the schedule when we didn't cover material. But don't ever argue with him, even with other research. His research is above all. He has all the information so anything you think you know, don't offer the information, because you aren't as smart or as well read, or as capeable of knowledge like Dr. Steven Wininger.
So, don't make waves, just sit back and try to absorb or spare yourself the frustration.

Dr. Wininger gives good notes, and his tests come straight from them. He gives 3 quizzes, all open-book, but you must read the selections. Other than the quiz readings, I never opened the book again. However, I did have a few problems with his grading! First of all, he lets his grad student grade the critical performances, and will not change the grade that you get from her under any circumstances. He keeps a place on the syllabus for keeping up with your own grades. I had kept up with my grades all semester and needed a 90% on the final to make an A for the course. I never missed one day, and was only late one morning, and I made an 89% on the final. He doesnt take participation and attendance into his grade at all, giving me a B for the course. I think all teachers should take it into consideration!!!<hr><b>Added 06/23/2004</b>
"<i>I have serious doubts that this student needed a 90 on her final to get an A, got an 89 and a B for the course. I am the professor and do round the grades. In this case the grade would have been rounded. I believe the student did not calculate the grades correctly. In addition, I have changed critical performance grades in the past for students who provide a valid rationale for a change of grade.</i>"

This is a great class. I am not in any way saying it is an easy A, but I learned more in this class than classes I have made an A in. I made a C in the course due to I was always studying for Western Civ. and the test always fail on the same week everytime. The test are tricky, but if you study the notes and listen to class discussion you will be fine. You only use the book for quizzes, but I think it's a nice textbook to have for future reference. Be sure to learn how to critique an article you will have to do this for the final and that part is not multiple choice. Don't only study the definitions for the test but learn examples and how to relate them to different things. Dr. Wininger is willing to answer any questions that you have or listen to your opinions on things. He also has course objectives which are helpful on the test. I say take him for this class stay away from that Ernie DUDE!! I had him for a couple of days and dropped I wasn't learning anything. As you have seen in the other evaluations he is not bad looking, but what you should know is that I am sure he is happily married and loves his family. I think educational psychology has so much potential to be an interesting and helpful class. Dr. Wininger is methodical, straightforward and very organized. Class time is either small group activity or taking notes--the lectures aren't bad. But it was usually boring, and even when we might get into it a little, it felt contrived instead of grounded in the real world. You only need to use the textbook for quizzes (open book) and also the critical performances--the tasks come from hypothetical case studies in the text.

Dr. Wininger is a great teacher who takes his teaching very seriously, and expects you to do the same. He is very helpful and understanding and even funny at times! This isn't an easy class, but I think he makes it not-so-bad.

Dr. Wininger is very good at presenting some rather unintersting material. He has a way of getting everyone to laugh, even though he takes his work seriously. He likes working with students, and will help you any time if you are having problems. I strongly recommend him for this course. He's also pretty nice to look at!
