Ms. Lau is the sweetest teacher I have ever had. She was a little too nice because people tended to run over her. I don't believe she is normally a public speaking teacher, but se was out teacher due to a deaf student in our class. I really liked her and she let us use our notes on the first test, she gave us the questions on the second test and on the third test it was take home from questions the class made up! She doesn't grade the speeches hard. I made my speech the night before it was due and have gotten an A on everyone of them. She also allows you to make up any class times that you miss over three. I love Ms Lau and would take her again anytime.

I took this class my last semester. I was excited to learn sign language and I did learn a lot, but there was so much work required outside of class that it made me dislike it. You are required to do 6 labs, which require finding a time that fits both you and your partner, as well as the Lab instructors. That is not so bad. But in addition to that, you are required to have 5 contact hours with the Deaf community. I had to take off work three times just to make sure my partner and I had a time to meet to do the requirements outside of class. Two videos, two major exams and one final performance is also required. I was hoping to be able to relax through this class and just enjoy learning the beautiful language, but I was so stressed about getting everything done that it was hard to do that. Stephanie is nice, but she goes fast and sometimes makes you feel stupid. Nancy, the lab instructor, is great. Very funny and helpful. Overall, I learned a lot in this class, but with a lot of consequences.

What can I say about this class-it was awesome!!!! She is such an awesome person and really let you experience the language without pressure. Yes, being around the deaf community is a little scary, but it was such an awesome experience, and from what I hear the other ASL 101 teacher is very difficult. She wants her students to do well and wants to help them really get the language as a whole than to test you a lot and make it dug in your head. I felt like the class was very close because we spent so much time together outside doing labs and contact hours. I LOVE MS LAU, PLEEEASE TAKE HER!!!!!!! I wish she taught the second semester but she only teaches the first :(

Stephanie is absolutely the most wonderful teacher. She will work with you on anything. She never gives quizzes, and she will help you on the tests (one midterm and 1 final) if you need it. This class requites quite a bit of outside work, but it is well worth it. She can make it so easy on you if you will let her. For anyone needing a foreign language credit...take ASL 1 with Stephanie. One Note: YOU CAN NOT PROCRASTINATE and still get by in this class.
