Even though I recieved a C, it was one of the most enjoyable classes. I like the old school format (no powerpoint, no computers, just him and a chalk board), and he was easy to follow. His quizzes did seem challenging, but if you showed up and took notes and actually listened (like you're supposed to do anyway), then this class was actually easy. We only had one essay, and I just copied it word for word from my notes and still made an A on it. Take him if he is still teaching in the future.

Dr. Scott is a cool guy and tries to be funny but he is a scatter brain. His notes are overkill. I spent a week trying to prep for his exam and still recieved a D. I don't understand how this guy has so many green faces. He is cool and interesting but he grades his essays to difficult and his exam structures are very difficult.

If you are a sorority girl, take this class! Scott loves pretty girls and gives them an easier time than other students, which sucks for us! You can miss up to 12 classes with no penalty, but make sure you won't miss a quiz because he will require a doctors note to be excused from it.
Don't buy the textbook, I never used it.

This man is either senile or a complete liar. He informed my class that we could miss up to 12 times with no penalty whatsoever. When I missed one class because of the flu, I missed a pop quiz. When I asked him about it, he told me that the syllabus stated that no quizzes could be made up without an excuse. I reread the syllabus about 100 times and it no where stated that. When I emailed him about it and let him know that I was concerned about my grade, he responded incredibly rudely and told me that my concern for my grade sounded like a self-esteem issue that he was not responsible for. Ironically enough, he allowed one girl in my class to retake the quiz. Not me, or several other individuals, though.
I dropped this class because, like I said, the guy is either so old he is losing it or is just a complete liar. Either way, to fill a GenEd, DO NOT take this class... unless you don't ever get sick and can decipher imaginary clauses on his syllabus.

He is a good guy. Tests are pretty much common sense. In his multiple choice he gives you a variety of options but only one answer really makes sense so you could guess and do fine. He hints to when his pop quizzes will be. I recommend studying for those. Other than that he has old humor and is really passionate about rocks and chevy trucks. You dont need to waste your money buying the book. I didnt open mine once.

BORING!!!!!! But if you want a low maintence class where you have to do next to zero studying for an A or a B this is your class. This class was so easy that I completely blew off studying and got a B instead of an A.
2 tests: midterm, final. 3 essays. and about 4 pop quizes is how he grades.

If you're an attractive girl... take this class. You will get an A. haha, not really but it helped me out. Mr. Scott is a great prof. and explains difficult concepts with ease. HE LOVES GEOLOGY. He's very passionate. Exams are strait from the notes, so just keep up on them. There is a little work you have to do for this class to get an A, but you can be a slacker to get a B.

Personally, I think Dr. Scott isn't a bad guy. His humor is a bit dated, but he tries to keep things fun. He's a little on the redneck side (you may like that, it annoys me) and totally rejects global warming so be warned, don't bring it up (don't mention ford trucks either). If you aren't going for a maj/min in geol, skip this class. He tries to condense too much information into one semester and it's an overload. I spent a week prepping for the first exam and still made a B, just too much stuff to remember. I lost interest after the second week and had to force myself to go to class, and I kind of half-assed the rest of it. He's a nice guy, but the class kinda sucks. Note: If I had to chose between Dr. Scott and Dr. Crowder, I'd take Scott in a flat second, even if it meant I would burn in hell for eternity. (Avoid Crowder.)

Great passionate teacher. Just repeat your notes in the essays and you will do well. On the exams just take good notes and pay attention to things he repeats. A few quizes pop up every once in a while. He will do a sneaky review right before so take that as a warning sign.

Professor Scott is an amazing person and teacher. I came into the class knowing that it was going to be boring, but Mr. Scott made learning about rocks, minerals and landforms actually kind of fun. He loves what he teaches and he loves his students. If you show up to class and show interest in what he is teaching then he will do whatever possible to help you get a good grade. However, this class does require a lot of memorization. I received a high A in the class and believe that anyone who is willing to try a little can too.

Professor Scott loves what he does, not only does he love teaching he loves geology and is excited about sharing it. He gives about 4 quizzes and only 2 tests, which includes the final. However you do get extra credit opportunities and he tries really hard to make sure you do well. He comes around during quizzes and tries to help you out. He's funny too. We've never written a paper in his class which is always good. The only thing that's hard is that his class is a LOT of memorization. But I've heard all of the geology classes are, and some do a lot of work. So if you have to take geology 102 and you dont want to do a lot of work take him. You can also miss 12 classes with no punishment but after that you fail. He's a good teacher!

He could be a bit boring but he could explain things well. Make sure you have time in your schedule to take a trip to Mammoth Cave with the class, but he cancels several days of classes to "make up" for the time the trip takes. He gives study guides before exams. He does take attendence each class.

This class is cake, and Dr. Scott is just the icing. He's extremely laid back. He tells you to read the chapters knowing you won't. He gave a random pop quiz one day but gave us every single answer beforehand. He has a great sense of humor and he loves what he teaches. The notes are sometimes a bit much, but all you have to do is copy straight from the board and he tells you exactly what you need to know. He has really good jokes, and good stories. You can miss up to 12 classes before it begins to affect your grade...don't miss any and you get 10 bonus points.

If you're going to take Geology, definitely take it from him. He's very passionate about the subject and he knows the answer to almost any question you could ask. His personality makes the class fun and interesting. He likes to draw on the board and use other visual stimuli so if you learn best from seeing/touching then he's great for you. The tests aren't bad if you study the material. He's very helpful and he goes out of his way to assure your progress in his class.

He's a very entertaining teacher and i would recomend him to any one.

Scott is a good teacher. I had him for an intro class. He is funny and very understanding. You have 3 quizes or so. There is only two tests-midterm and final. I would take him, he knows what he is talking about. He puts notes on the board. At the beginning of the class he tells you the book is mandatory, but I dont think i opened it at all, and i still did good. take him

Dr.Scott really loves rocks! He's a real personable guy and trys to get to know everyone! I found the class to be very interesting, although there are is a LOT of note taking. I'm so glad I took this class, and may take another with Dr. Scott. We did the basics of geology, stuff like volcanoes, karst topography, oceans and rivers, mountain formations--it was good!

First off, I should say that not everyone hated this class like I did. Personally, I think Mr. Scott is one of the most boring men ever. His class is really easy, but SO boring. He writes notes on the board in outline-form and it drove me crazy because he was always switching around his outline formats (I know that doesn't sound like a big deal, but it was only one of many of his annoying characteristics). So anyway--if you try at all in this class you'll get an A, and I guess it could just be me, but I really, really dreaded going to this class.

He knows so much that at times you feel like you are stupid b/c you can't understand what he is saying, but you only have to know the basics. Stuff that you will actually use. Great class.

At first I thought this class would be a joke but it actually was interesting. Professor Scott is wacky and he’s really hyper about geology. If it weren’t for that, this class would be very boring. This class is pretty easy, but you actually learn a lot. There was a midterm, a final, a couple of quizzes, and a research paper. There is no homework at all, so I would recommend this class if you need to fulfill a general ed requirement.

You basically have to attend the lectures to do well in this class, for he bases all the tests by them. It is not too bad though, for the lectures are more interesting than you think they will be. He has a real enthusiasm for the class. Just attend each class, take the notes he writes on the board, and spend a night studying the review sheets for the test and you'll do fine.

He is so funny, but in his own way. You will enjoy coming to this class. He actually makes rocks interesting. The tests and quizzes are very easy. You will take notes but it's not a big deal. When he told us about our research paper he said "If you spend 2 hrs on it, then you've spent to long" and it only has to be about 2 pages. Very easy , but interesting class. Take him. You wont regret it!!

Scott is a GREAT teacher he is really excited about his subject, but really explains things well. He gives quite a bit of notes but that is all you need for the test. He usually tells you what is going to be on the test. Very easy test, if you study a little. Keeps you until the end of class most the time, but it isn't bad. Gives you a day off. 2 page paper--easy.

Dr. Scott's entusiasm for rocks actually makes this class interesting. You will be suprised with how much information you will retain from this class. The tests and quizes are extremely easy, he goes over every question he will ask. The essay part of the test is a breeze, he gives you the question a week before the test. I recomend this course to anyone looking for a class that they will actually enjoy attending.
