She posts everything on blackboard and is so funny. She is so great that I almost switched my major to sociology because she made me that interested. Loved this class.

I loved Professor Newby. She made things interesting and made learning the material fun. She gives study guides before each test and if you know the study guide then you will do great. I highly suggest her.

Mrs.Newby is an awesome teacher !! She explained everything in a way that everyone could understand and she really makes sociology intresting. You really dont have to go to class, but her lectures are not boring and are very exciting. She is a very sweet lady! loved her. Test are okay you have to study but not to bad.

This class was fairly easy as long as you studied the key words on the study guide. The tests were multiple choice and extra credit was avaliable once this semester. Attendence is not required but she will help you out on your grade if you attend class regularly. Also, notes are posted on blackboard so you dont need to attend class to know what was discussed. If you would like an easy class take Newby.

Great teacher for a semi-boring class. I would take her again. No essays, no papers, notes are on blackboard. Not hard at all.

This woman is amazing, she doesn't teach alot on campus so get her if you can. She gives bonus point quizzes and her exams are cake, you don't have to study even. She gives study guides with all the exam material on it. Her lectures are the most interesting Ive ever had she makes you think and tells some of the funniest damn stories ever. Oh yeah and not to mention she loves to curse and get the classes attention by being such a effective teacher. Overall: A+ teacher

This woman is such a true example of what a professor should be. She cares, she works with you, she makes life easier. Her tests are a breeze she gives study guides covering the test questions. She by far has the best personality in a professor ive yet to find, shes funny as crap, she is passionate about class and she loves to swear about anything that sets her off in the world. Take this woman you wont regret it.

If you need an easy A...take this class!! You don't even have to go to class, she lectures straight from the book. She gives you a study guide before the test. She is an awesome professor and would reccomend anyone to take her!

I would have to say Mrs. Newby has been my favorite teacher yet at western. shes the sweetest lady ever! i promise you that... shes understanding and willing to help u anytime... But on the other hand, the class is boring.. she talks alot. Attendence isnt always mandatory.... The class is easy..if you want a easy sociology class take this!... you wont regret having her as a teacher!

I LOVE MRS. NEWBY!! She is so awesome. She doesn't require you to go to class. She takes attendance, but if you're not there, it doesn't count against you. If you buy the textbook and read the chapters, you will get an A. Every test question comes from the book. I didn't even take any notes - I just highlighted the important stuff in my book. Very easy class and very good instructor!

Mrs. Newby is a very energetic woman. You don't really need the book because she basically reads the book outloud and those are her notes. Her tests are mostly terms and such directly from the book and she goes ever everything on the test! I used the book at the beginning of the year and then stopped and just brought my laptop to take notes of what she says. You also get a quiz before each test and depending how well you do you can get up to 3 points extra credit on your next exam but even if you get a 0 it won't hurt you. She also offers lots of extra credit by going to speaker and such outside of class. Our first test the class didn't do so hot and so she gave us a study sheet and a review before the test, she went over every question and i got a 99% on the next test! She is always willing to help you and even lets you out early if you get done. I recommend Mrs. Newby for soc 100!

I say she is an ok teacher because she is really nice, but she stands at the front of the room and talks and she talks fast! I had to type my notes because I couldn't write fast enough! Sometimes when I read back over my notes I really don't have a clue what she was talking about, so I had to read out of the book to understand what was going on. The test are pretty easy if you study and know all the terms. Its not that difficult of a class I just thought it was going to be a lot more interesting than it was!

Mrs. Newby is a great teacher, she is hilarious and breaks everything down really well. She gives a quiz before every tests for extra credit and you can earn up to 3 bonus points on each of your tests, and there are also other extra credit opportunities. The tests are mostly common sense but you do need to study. If you make an effort then you will do great in this class, if you like learning about the world around you and about people then you will enjoy her class. Everything she goes over to relates to everyday life. I love Mrs. Newby and would recommend her to anyone.

Take This Class If At All Possible! This Woman Will Keep You Interested No Matter What! The Tests Are Very Easy and All Multiple Choice. I Think We Had A Few Fill In The Blank But They Were Extra Credit On The Final. Oh..and The Extra Credit Was Naming The 8 Reindeer Besides Rudolph. I Suggest Not Missing Class. If You Have A Borderline Grade and You Haven't Missed She Will Bump You Up A Letter Grade. Her Lectures Are Right Out Of The Book..So Get A Used Book Because They Are Already Highlighted. One Last Thing. Her Final Exam Was Only Over The Last Chapters We Went Over So It Was Rather Easy. Take This Class!

I absolutely love Mrs. Newby. She is probably the best teacher I have ever had and her class was awesome. She gave great examples and real life scenarios for everything, and I really understood everything. All you have to do is listen to her lectures, skim the textbook, and you can get an A. It really is an easy and fun class.

I really enjoyed the class itself as well as Mrs. Newby. She really keeps you interested. The attendance situation is that you don't have to come but if you do, at grading time, more attendance could decide that small difference between an A- and a B+ (that kind of thing). Plus, she sometimes cuts out parts of the chapters that you don't have to know (which is less info. to remember!) But the class itself is not hard to sit through. It gets alittle repetitive sometimes but its not at all bad. I would defiantely reccommend taking this class from her.

Ms. Newby is a decent instructor. She's got really passionate presentation, but all her information comes right out of the textbook (including almost every single example she cites). You don't really need the textbook b/c she covers it just like she was reading it almost. She gives out quizzes that are extra credit on your exams. Real easy class.

As long as you can sit and listen you will do well in the class! This was my first real lecture class and I had to get used to that. Ms. Newby loves sociology and wants you to do well. Her tests aren't hard at all (all multiple choice) and she gives extra credit quizzes before each test to possibly let you earn up to 3 points for your test. There are no projects or papers or group work. Just come, sit, listen and take tests. Plus, she usually lets you out a few minutes early.

She is one of my favorite professors! She makes class interesting and she always keeps you thinking. Everything she talks about is at our level, or at least she makes it seem that way! She gives you a scenerio for everything so you can better understand it! Take her class!
