Dr. Zehr is a good teacher. Even though I learned alot, the class was pretty boring at times. There is a RIDICULOUS amount of reading, and most of the time we didn't even go over it in class. She only assigns one paper, a midterm, and two student-led discussions and a presentation on your final paper. If you want to take the class just to get your requirement out of the way, then do it. There isn't much busywork involved. But if you want to be engaged in the course, then you should take something else.

Dr. Zehr has a wonderful ability to articulate herself in such a way that even abstract concepts like Buddhist teachings become accessible to the average student. She encourages open discussion in class, and always remains remarkably unbiased. She demonstrates a familiarity with the concepts you will talk about, and will never move on without making sure you get it.
There are only 2 tests throughout the semester, a midterm and a final. These are pretty rigorous in that they are nearly entirely essay, and require you to demonstrate that you actually understand the concepts you have been talking about--memorization wont get you far. However there are plenty of other opportunities for points--you will be split into groups and receive credit for discussing questions with your group every day. There are also a couple group presentations that are an easy grade.
I had Dr. Zehr during her first year here, and was extremely impressed. I enjoyed this class, and hope to have her again in my time at Western.
