Professor Zapata is very funny and easy on the eyes. However, his course can be difficult. You have to work hard to earn your grade. Half of his students fail his last chapter test, so it is important that you do your best throughout the semester to pad your grade. Students with an A do not have to take the final.

This is one of the most interesting classes I have ever taken - and, by far, one of my favorites. Profesor Zapata is very helpful, funny, and engaging. He is always making jokes and truly taking time to make sure everyone understands the material. There are multiple options for extra credit and you can receive an exemption from the final if you have an A in the course, which, if you study, is not at all difficult. I nearly dropped this class when I first received his syllabus, but it was mostly a formality and I truly would have missed out if I had done so. I would recommend this class to anyone, despite your skill level in the language.

Do the work and actually try and Zapata will be your best friend and help you every chance he gets. If you don't show up to class, don't pay attention, etc. he will still help you though not as much or as happily. Also, if you have an A in the class at the time of the final exam, he will exempt you from it.

I would not recommend Zapata whatsoever. He is super unprofessional, and it definitely effects the quality of his class. His age is an obvious problem considering that he is only 23, and he definitely acts like it. He made countless inappropriate sexual comments in my class about trimming your bush, penis size, birth control, and molestation. It was truly uncomfortable being in his class. On top of this, he really is not a good professor. He can be very difficult to follow, and your grades are weighted, so it can be very difficult to improve your grade. His testing atmosphere is like a zoo. He allows students to carry on and be loud, and he participates in this with them. I would not recommend ever taking this class.

Professor Zapata's class was an absolute blast! I had so much fun in there, I'm thinking of taking on a Spanish minor now. He makes class fly by, and he's always ready to help you. His tests can be hard at times, but he offers a good amount of extra credit, so you can be okay. Plus, if you just study, you'd be amazed at how much your grade will go up (duh). Anyways, he's a great teacher, and if you're taking Spanish 102, take this guy, no doubt.

Excellent teacher! I was very scared about taking this course, but ended up with an A! (in a 3 week May session at that!) If you have an A before the Final, he will exempt you from it. The material was difficult because it is another language, but he made the class very fun and interesting. He explained everything and gave tons of examples. There is a lot of homework online and quizzes, but the tests are mostly matching and multiple choice. Oh yeah, and he actually takes the time to learn your name...which is a plus in my book!

If you have not had a good Spanish teacher in high school, this course can be a little bit difficult. I personally struggled with it, at the beginning. However, Zapata is a great guy and incredibly friendly. He worked with me throughout the second half of the semester to pull my grade up to an A before the final, and I ended up not having to take the final because of that. I took him during his first year of teaching, and I think he will just get better and better. Take him.

Best professor I have had so far. Professor Zapata is young, really young, so he connects better with the class. He exhibits control yet has fun with the students. If you are really familiar with Spanish, then this class is super easy. But if you're not, he is patient and understanding. He goes over every lesson thoroughly in class and if you have a question, he has no problem taking time to help you understand. The only extra credit he offers is attending the Spanish films that are shown on campus and writing a review of them in Spanish. He has a really good memory and knows everyone's name. If you have an A in the class then you are exempt from the final. All of his exams are done over Blackboard. You have to take them during class period though. They're short and if you remember the lessons, you're totally fine. I would take Professor Zapata a million times. I absolutely loved him. I am no where near being fluent in Spanish, but I looked forward to going to this class.

This professor is fantastic. By far one of my most favorite professors at WKU. From day one, he makes it a point to be like a friend to every student. He's funny, incredibly nice, and wants every student to succeed. He teaches class in an effective way with group interaction and vocabulary association that makes learning the language feel natural. All tests/homeworks are done online, as well as some compositions/quizzes. He allowed us to retake any quizzes we wanted to, an unlimited amount of times, to improve our grade, and he gave us an opportunity for extra credit. The final was optional to those who had an 'A' near the end of the course. He also rounds grades graciously. I would recommend his class to everyone.

I loved this class. It was actually entertaining, but I still learned something from it. I do have prior experience (3years) in Spanish, so that did help. The tests, quizzes, and homework are all online. I definitely recommend this professor.
