I have been very eager to get on here and talk about Caillouet for quite some time. This class should not be hard, but he makes it hard! You have 2 tests and then the final, but also a moc trial which was awful, and a tribute speech. When i say awful there is reasoning behind it. After you get done presenting your case with your partners he single's you out and tells you what you did wrong in front of the entire class. If he doesn't like something about even your appearance he might even comment on it. Personally, putting his comments on paper would suffice. You have an assignment due every class period. Usually small writing assignments, but he never misses giving the homework. He has a thing for sail boats, and talks about his experiences on his sail boat, having nothing to do with the class..The two books that are assigned to us at the beginning of the semester are not used once in the class, but then come test time he just pulls stuff out of them to put on the test, including the final. If you take him be prepared to never miss class, be judged a lot, and hear personal stories about him that do not relate to the course.

I don't see how anyone on here doesn't think Caillouet is a good professor. He cares so much about what he does and loves his students. I took the summer course with him and he has made it a lot of fun! He has a great sense of humor and will help anyone out who needs it! Definitely take him, you'll love him...

This was a pretty good class, and Dr. Caillouet knows his stuff. Some of his assignments didn't really make sense to me, even though they were easy. You do an interview at the beginning og the semester with an international student, and then do a short presentation. At the end of the semester you do an interaction project, write a paper and present it. Also, at the beginning of the class he says that you write your own test questions for each chapter. While he collects each persons chapter question, I have NEVER seen any student question on the test.

He is a super nice guy. Loves what he does. It's a fairly easy class, but not the MOST interesting. But it was ok. You will have to do 2 projects. 1 is an interview with an international student, or someone that is from another country. The other one is one that you have to spend a bit more time with a different student.
The tests are pretty easy, you just need to pay attention in class and take notes. He uses powerpoint for all of his notes.
super nice guy and pretty good class.

I personally believe that this class is one of the most retarted classes I have had within both my undergratuate and graduate level courses. He reads right off his Power Points with minimal extra material but expects that you know everything. If you are not into communications before this class GET OUT NOW! HE IS HORRID! If he was an actor he would be like the character LoPan (a horrid attempt) but he is not at all successful. The internet doesn't help you with this course, he provides no rubrics, and he has made me feel like I am an idiot. This class is retarted and don't take unless you have to. I would rather pull my hair out than take this class!! BE Advised!

Dr Caillouet is a great guy and the class is pretty easy during class. You have to do a long interview of someone whos from a nonenglish speaking country. Later on in the course you have to write a 5 page paper about 3 cultural concepts that you've analyzed after hangin out with a different nonenglish speaking person
read the chapters and notes before the tests and you'll get like a B on them. its kind of hard to study for the class because its not really facts to memorize or anything
overall its an ok class

The class is alright, and Larry is pretty humorous. He doesn't organize the class or the assignments in the way that I like or in a way that most teachers do. He rambles a lot and we get off task easily. We are 2 or 3 weeks behind right now in material. Some of the chapters he just says to read it and we are responsible for that material on the test. He's a pretty nice guy, but the class is definitely not my favorite.

You only have two speeches and then a group project at the end...be sure to get a good group bc its a lot of work and I got stuck with most of it bc I chose the "fun" group. He isnt the best speaker compared to other speech teachers I've had. He's an okay guy though...pretty understanding if you miss class. You get two free misses and then after that it starts to count off of your grade. The hardest thing is staying awake in class...do that and you'll be fine!

Dr. C is very good at what he does; however, you never know what to expect on the exams. Only two exams were taken and the questions had only been covered once...months before the test! Very simple writing assignments!

After reading the evaluations of Dr. Caillouet, I would have to say that most people are right on target. It is hard for me to respect a man who seems to find enjoyment in making himself look

Dr. Caillouet was an awesome proffesor who really knows his stuff. His lectures were meaningful and relevant to the topics we were posed with in actually presenting speeches. I plan to take a class with him again next semester.

Dr. Caillouet is a teacher that I wish I had never taken for many reasons but for the purpose here I will give 5 major reasons why no one should ever take him.
1. His exams are never what he goes over. He will say they come from one source but on the exam they come from another. He is not consistent at all.
2. He makes speech writing as hard as brain surgery! He is so picky and if you don't say exactly what he wants - he will rip you apart for it.
3. He is unfair. If you have public speaking experience then you will probably do well in his class. But, if you have trouble talking in public he will make you feel so stupid. He has his favorites in the class and it shows.
4. His personality is horrible. He will criticize a southern accent. If your speech topic isn't exactly what he enjoys be prepared to have your grade suffer. For a speech teacher he is terribly boring! I promise - you WILL fall asleep.
5. Fifth if you want an A TAKE ANOTHER CLASS!!! I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH. This class taught as an honors class is way overrated. Just take the regular one - do less work - be challenged the same amount. It's all the same except you will get an A instead of a B.
I hope I have prevented someone else from hurting their GPA.
Dr. Caillouet is a definite NO when you sign up for classes.

Dr. Caillouet is a very unfair teacher. He is partial to some students and allows people who miss their speech dates to make up their speeches any old time they feel like it. As long as these people give a great speech it doesn't matter when they decide to come and give it. He then punishes the people that get a little nervous during their speeches but at least give their speeches on time by being overly critical. After giving a speech he butchers everything you tried to accomplish and then tells you how perfect his ideas are and how he would have done it. The sad thing is that his lectures are so boring that it's almost impossible to stay awake. His tests are also impossible. You never know what to study for or what to expect. I suppose he would be a great teacher if you have a lot of public speaking experience but if not it will be absolutely impossible to make and A. Do not take Dr. Caillouet. He can make the simplest task into brain surgery.

Dr. Caillouet is the worst professor I have ever had. If you are thinking of taking him DO NOT DO IT!! He is racist, and if you are not in his socioeconomic bracket he will criticize you and make you feel like dirt! He will make fun of you if you have a southern accent. He is very critical and If you get nervous whatsoever when giving a speech he will count points off. That is discriminatory and he should be fired. He is an overall jerk and will make a relatively easy class super hard. I think Dr. Caillouet could turn tieing your shoe into brain surgery!! Folks. this is a professor to stay away from. He is never prepared for class, will lose your papers, etc. The only people who get A's in his class are the ones who have extensive public speaking backgrounds. Certain students can miss their speech days and not give an assigned speech for a month and he will give them a better grade than a nervous student who works hard to prepare a good speech but has a hard time delivering. He will count off if you don't dress the way he wants you too. (Wouldnt you think khakis and a white shirt is proper? HE DOESNT!) His tests are never consistent with material taught. He is a speech teacher but he gives the most boring lectures ! Oh yes, if you are giving a speech don't look at him because he looks over his glasses and makes you laugh because he looks like a total idiot.. I guess Dr. Caillouet is a decent man but he can't teach or be equal.

Dr. Caillouet knows his stuff. If you watch him in class he practices what he preaches. He does a good job relaying the information to students. If you're reading this, please submit more evaluations of upper level SCOM courses...Thanks!

Dr. Caillouet is very good about telling you what he expects in the speeches. Plus, his exams are relatively easy.
