This is a graduate class for students getting their Master's in Teacher Leadership. I HIGHLY suggest to anyone NOT to take Dr. Gandy for this course. I took this class online, so the level of communication was not there, but I believe even if I had gone to actual class none or very little would have existed at all. Her suggestions on your work are unclear, yet when she grades your work she will take off points for not editing according to her changes-that you don't understand. I think that she formed an opinion of my work and from that point on didn't grade me fairly. She even required me to edit work that I had done because I used pieces of work from another graduate class on a paper in her class. Do not take Dr. Gandy!!

Dr. Gandy can be very intimidating if you do not know her. I encourage students to talk to her, you will feel much more at ease after you do! She is a wonderful teacher, I have learned so much more than I thought I would. Social Studies always seemed like such a boring subject to me, but her class helps you realize all the fun ways to teach it. The two quizzes in the class are open book, you get three tries to get your best score, and she will try her best to help if you need it. Overall, the class is hard work but totally doable. If you take her you will learn a ton, and be a wonderful Social Studies teacher!

This was one of my favorite teachers. At first, I was very nervous because of her stern attitude but after I got to know her I was very happy to be the class. Before her class, I hated social studies and was scared to teach it but now I am looking forward to it. She does help you if you ask her and she will expect great things from you but the class is worth it if you want to do well in block I.

Dr. Gandy is obsessed with social studies- she gives noone any reason to doubt she doesn't live for her profession. She doesn't enjoy people (or students) at all though. She's harsh at the best of times and doesn't offer one on one help (not that you'd ever want to be alone with her) and is easily angered if you don't understand something the first time. She acts like she believes that you don't understand ON PURPOSE just to waste her time. You can't talk to her about grades or ask for clarifications and her coursework is really hard and heavy every class. I cried (and so did everyone else in the class) in class more than once. It's hard work, made harder by a miserable woman.

Dr. Gandy has no personality, it seems. She LIVES for social studies - seriously. Even her house is decorated with maps galore (as you will find out on Culminating Day). She is one of those teachers that either likes or despises you. She's very strict on her grading, and she tore my lesson plans to pieces. She apparently likes to see students cry, too...

All I can say is to not take her. She makes judgements and is not a good teacher. She will not help you with anything. DO NOT TAKE HER if you do not have to.

I highly recommend Dr. Gandy for this course. She tells you what she expects of you and if you do it, then you will be just fine. She has had a lot of practical experience and is able to use that to teach her college-age students. Great course, great lady. :o)

As long as you take notes, pay attention in class, and follow the rubrics for class projects, this is a relatively easy course to take. Dr. Gandy is an enthusiastic professor who makes the class very fun. I would suggest that anyone take her for this class.
