Dr. Mason is a good teacher to have. Her tests are tricky but if you go to class and pay attention you should be fine. She does the notes for you. All you have to do is print them off and bring them to class. Take her for human nutrition.

I didn't think this class was difficult, but it was engaging and I looked forward to going. She takes attendance daily and says perfect attendance will help you up to one percentage point at the end of the semester if you are borderline. Everything covered in class will be copied into the note outline she provides, so if you have to miss it is easy to catch up. She gave four tests and a few small assignments. The tests were all multiple choice or true/false and if you pay attention in class and have all the notes they shouldn't be any trouble. We hardly ever used our books because the tests were based only on the lecture notes you wrote in the outline. We did have two online quizzes (10-20 questions and open-book) for chapters we didn't have time to cover in class but the Academic Complex has a lab with a copy of the course book, so it is not necessary to purchase it although I did. Dr. Mason is very sweet and I enjoyed the class very much.

I loved Ms. Mason. She was always more than willing to help you, especially for someone that cared. You can tell she is very passionate about health, and if you are in class and take notes you WILL pass. All you have to do is show up for class, the notes that you take in class are EXACTLY what is on the test. Beware that she constantly wants people in the class to talk and interact (which better helps your grade), so dont be surprised if she calls on you to contribute how you feel about something. Her tests are SUPER easy and i would recommend her to everyone!

She makes the class interesting and she makes the information easy to understand. Her test are really easy, you do have to study a little bit, but not very much.

She gives you the notes with fill in the blanks that are word for word on her power points. So you don't have to worry about not having the information the need. She is very energetic and I don't know anyone who could dislike her. If you pay attention in class you won't even have to study much for the tests. I think there were four throughout the semester.

Dr. Mason is a bit corny at times and tells bad jokes, but she has a bubbly personalty and is very entertaining during lectures. I actually enjoyed going to her class and learned a lot from it. She is a great teacher!
This class was an easy A for me! It is definitely a good option if you haven't taken a class for PE credit or don't want to take a class that actually involves physical activity.

I loved this class! Karen Mason is the friendliest, most realistic professor I've had here so far. She is very interested in her career, she is ALWAYS open for any questions, she gives physical examples along with notes...she's just great. We had 2 open note/open book on-line quizzes before each test, as well as 2 on-line assignments that were super easy. The tests themselves are not difficult, just review notes thoroughly. The class is amazing if you're at all interested in nutrition--if not it is still great information to know, and presented in a manner that is easy to absorb. I highly recommend this class!

Dr. Mason is a wonderful instructor. She is very knowledgeable and is enthusiastic about teaching the class. She lectures from powerpoint every day, but she goes slow so that you won't miss anything. You don't need the book except to do the online controversy quizzes. All of the exams are multiple choice and aren't difficult if you read over the notes about 3 times. I really enjoyed her class and recommend Dr. Mason to anyone that needs/wants to take nutrition.

She says things like "this isn't going to be on the test, so DON'T write it down, but bla bla bla" and the next day when you take the quiz, there are questions about it. The notes are an overkill and most of it isnt even on the test! Most of what you study isn't even going to be on the test! I'm not the smartest person in the world, but I always get A's and B's and now I have a D on my record.

Dr.Mason is a great teacher. She is very helpful and has a good way of explaining each subject. You take notes everyday but they are on powerpoint and she allows time to write them down, it isn't a marathon. Dr.Mason helped me learn alot and I even considered Nutrition as a major/minor after her class. There are 4 test including the final, a little homework that is very easy and she gives you plenty of time to do it, quizzes before each test that are easy, no papers. I would highly recommened Dr.Mason!!

Dr. Mason is a great teacher. I got a C, but was 0.8 away from a B. She wouldn't bump me up because I missed some classes. All her notes come from a power point presentation, but you have to be in class to get the notes. She take attendence every day. If you don't miss any class, then you get 2 pts added to your final average. There is a lot of material, so study early. You will have a quiz right before the test worth 5 pts. She does this to make sure her students study a little before the test. You have to buy your own scantron.

Mrs. Mason is really nice. She did an excellant job of breaking things down so that we understood what she was saying. I feel that I learned more from this nutrition class than any other class of its type that I have ever taken. One word of advice is to pick a seat and sit in the same seat every day. She wants to know everyone's names, so she likes to be able to find you everyday. Believe it or not, she does remember where you sit, even with a large class. She really cares about everyone in the classroom. Don't take this the wrong way, because she does not give grades, you must earn them, but if you have problems, talk to her. Also, do not sleep in her class, or she will wake you up. She is really smart in her subject area, but what made her even better was the fact that if she could not give you an answer about something, she would research to find an answer to your question and have an answer ready for you during your next class period. Mrs. Mason was a great teacher.

Going into this course I thought it would be much easier than it really is. There are a lot of notes, everyday, but it's not that hard to keep up. The only thing I didn't like about this class was that there weren't good reviews before the tests and there is ALOT of information on each tests. If you have to take this class, I'd recommend her, but if you are taking this just to fill the gen ed requirement, I'd recommend personal health instead.

Dr. Mason is a great teacher and the tests are not hard. You have four tests and four quizzes which are all announced a week in advance. The book is not required, but you need to take all notes on her powerpoint because you will see them again. If you are there every day she will add like three points to your final grade so attendance could be crucial if you have a borderline grade. If I studied for the test it would be like for an hour or maybe an hour and a half before the test or the night before.

This class was pointless! Unless you plan to go into this field and never come out, take it. If you plan to have a life in the future, save yourself now and choose something else. I didn't buy the book for the class and came out w/ a C, everyone I know that did buy it still came out w/ a C. All you do is sit and take notes, all day, everyday. If you're good at remembering stupid facts, then you might be good in this class. Mason just isn't a good teacher, that's all there is to it. She sounds like an old lady and seems like she's spent too much time mixing her vitamins. Whatever, good luck if you decide to take the plunge and register for this class.

Mason is a great teacher. The class isn't a breeze though, you actually have to study for the tests. You don't need a book, all you do is take notes off the overhead and that's the test. There's no homework except 2 little assignments that aren't hard. Attendance isn't mandatory, but she takes attendance everyday and bonus points are given at the end if you miss less than 3 days; they add to your final grade. My final was over the last few chapters and a few questions from the last test, so it wasn't cumulative. This is a good class, but it's not a bunny class. You have to study. She's a good teacher and has a good personality. I'd encourage anyone to take her if you have the chance.

She is very fun to have as a professor, you will never be bored. Her energy helps a lot in the morning when you are half way asleep in class. She really cares about her students and she will help you do well if you need help. The text book is not necessary, don't even buy it. All of her tests are strictly from her notes and if you study it well you should be able to get A's in all of them. she gives fun assignments that's very doable. Her teaching method is very effective. take her class!

Dr. Mason is a nice lady I liked her in that regard, but she still has some things to learn to be a good teacher. Ignore these other evals. because I did not and I am paying for it now.I have a 3.5 gpa and took this for gen ed.(mistake) She will give you 20-25 pages of notes and if that is not enough she then throws in trick ?s. For example, she told us that to avoid heartburn, do not drink liquids while eating, then on the test she phrased the ? like, "how do you avoid heartburn"? The answer was drink liquids an hour before or after eating. I guessed non of the above and got it wrong. Drinking an hour before/after eating is NOT the same thing as not drinking while eating. All these people giving smiling faces fooled me, dont let it fool you. I do not know what Mason they are talking about as EVERY person in my class of 50 or so bitches constantly. She teaches it like a 400 level course, no BS

In response to the message posted about Dr. Mason's class being hard...you must be a Freshman cause this class was cake. Hate to break it to you but there are hundreds of much harder classes at western. All you have to do to make an A in this class is go to class, take notes, study the notes, and use common sense on the tests. She is not going to write verbatem from her notes on the test questions. She has to make it somewhat of a challenge.

Dr. Mason is really dingy. If you can handle that she's a great teacher. She teaches with powerpoint, and although I believe a textbook may be required you could probably get by without one. Just study your notes. About 99% of test questions come from the powerpoint. Study an hour or two the night before your exam like I did and you'll probably get an A. I recommend her to anyone who likes to procrastinate.
