Mrs. Curtis is a FANTASTIC teacher!! She is very good for you Elementary Ed majors who are terrible at math, and needing a teacher who takes things step by step. She is also very understanding when you need help, and is also willing to do whatever it takes to make sure you understand the material. She usually posts notes on Blackboard so you just follow along as she teaches, and have to take few notes of your own. She is also very personable and enjoys getting to know each of her students! :)

Mrs. Curtis is a wonderful professor. She will help you with anything that you may need help with. You NEED to buy the book for this course because it can be used for math 205, 206, and 308. Everyday is spent learning new ways to teach basic math. You don't take many notes at all. The tests are simple and she gives you review sheets before every test that mimic the test. The only thing different are the numbers used. Also, the final is cumulative but the questions come from previous tests, which she hands back. I would recommend taking Mrs. Curtis!

Absolutely loved Mrs. Curtis! She made the class fun and interesting. First time in my life I have had a math teacher that didn't make me feel like a complete idiot if I didn't understand something. She is also the most approachable professor I've ever had. If you have ever struggled with math, I highly recommend you take Mrs. Curtis.

Professor Curtis is a very approachable teacher which is the opposite of what I'd heard from other students. I was scared about geometry since I'd not had it since highschool 30 years ago. You have to attend class or you'll get behind. She is wide open to questions and makes sure everyone is one the same page of understanding before she moves on. There's lots of homework and if you'll need to do all the practice problems on the test study guides to make sure you get it. I would highly recommend her, you just have to put the effort in on the class.

I absolutely adore Mrs. Curtis! She's the best teacher I've had so far at WKU. She makes Math enjoyable, and that's saying something! If you have the chance to take Mrs Curtis' class, do it! You'll love taking her class. I would recommend her to anyone! She's really hands-on, and she explains things in such a way that it just clicks with everyone.

Joy Curtis plays obvious favorites! If she likes you she will give you the grade you want weather you earned it or not. She intimidates you so much you do not want to ask questions in her class. She makes everyone feel like they are stupid, everyone in my class would talk about how they didn't want to ask questions because she would get smart and make you feel like an idiot. If you cry to her with your personal problems, she will let you get away with murder! IF you work hard, you are at a disadvantage in this class...take someone else!

I absolutely loved Mrs. Curtis. Yes, she does talk about her children a lot, but she loves them. And she is passionate about teaching math. I have a daughter, and she was extremely understanding if I had to miss because she was sick. If I didn't understand something, she always let me come to her office, or talk it over on the phone. I would def. recommend her. :)

She is awful. She chooses favorites and expects us to find interest in her kids and husband. Honestly when she comes to class with wet hair I can hardly stand to look at her let alone listen. She will cop a major attitude when you do not understand something, and whats worse she reads her notes straight from her notebook and it is insanely boring. Do not take her. I never had trouble with math until this class. Take someone else

Mrs. Curtis is by far one of the BEST teachers i have ever had. she truly tried to make sure you understood the material, and was very easy to approach with questions both in and out of class. I HATE math but LOVED having Mrs. Curtis as a professor. I would reccomend her to anyone needing credit in Math 116

She is the sweetest teacher ever! You can tell she really cares about her students and wants them to do well in her class. I definitely recommend Mrs. Curtis for math 211! she is funny, nice, and tries to make math fun! The tests arent that bad if you do the review problems she gives you for the test! If you go see her before a test she will help you out a lot too! Take her! Shes awesome!

Mrs. Curtis is a very nice professor. I would recommend her to anyone that has to take Math 109 for Elementary Ed.. She puts all the notes on Blackboard for you to print off and bring to class. The work isn't hard if you are decent in math, it is mostly a review of what you learned in grade school. As long as you pay attention and do your assignments then you'll be okay. She is very helpful if you don't understand the material.

TAKE MRS. CURTIS! She is one of the best professors I have had at Western. I loved her from day one. She is one of the few professors that I have had who truly cares about her students and shows it. She reads her students well; if she can tell you aren't getting something, she will go to you and help you. She moves a little fast through the material, but it is easy to follow if you attend class and pay attention. Her tests are not bad at all. She gave us an extra credit opportunity, and dropped our lowest test grade and replaced it with our highest. She is also a student so she understands that you have other classes and jobs, and is very understanding about it all. I would never take another math teacher. I can't stress enough how great of a teacher she truly is :)

So I know that if you all are like me you get on here, examine the info above and pay little attention to what people say. I have a mixed opinion about this class and I think it's a valid one so if you're truly interested in taking this please take the following into consideration. She is an incredibly personal teacher and often starts out her day talking about her kids, her husband and her dogs. Notes are pre-written for you with a few fill in the blanks here and there to make sure you're paying attention. However, if for some reason you don't pick up quickly in math and are easily frustrated and confused this class isn't adviced. When her methods of getting points across don't get through to you she grits her teeth and sounds incredibly hateful which completely turns me off. If this doesn't apply to you then by all means its a class you can really enjoy if it does, I would consider taking someone else.

She is an amazing teacher as long as you talk to her and make her feel comfortable. She loves to get to know you. The notes are all print outs and you just write on them. The homework is on MyMathLab. This class is a breeze as long as you pay attention and participate.

Mrs. Curtis is one of the BEST teachers at Western.
She is a great teacher!! There are 4 test and then the final. Homework is not mandatory BUT after each test you can turn it in for extra credit!! Also, she gives extra credit if you come to class everyday! This class met everyday and she would take out the time to work out the problems. She did not move very fast and if you need any extra help you can always talk to her. She makes herself available to her students!
TAKE HER!!!!
p.s. I really really really really HATE MATH!!!
so if you feel the same way you are going to LOVE HER!! and math... well that depends on you! I like it more now thanks to her.

This professor was awful!! She is not even qualified to teach this course... She plays favorites and if you aren't a kiss ass to her then she pretty much hates you and is completly rude. She takes like 20 minutes at the beginning of each class to talk about nothing to do with math, then complains when you get behind! Do not take her for any math course!!

Ms. Curtis is a new professor at WKU. At first she seems to be a relatively nice person, but upon closer inspection she demonstrated rather caty nature. As far as teaching, she skips steps, blackboard assignements were unclear and disorganized, and she lacks patients when students ask questions. After speaking to several of my classmates, I withdrew. Personally, I DO NOT recommend her. If you have no other choice than her class, then hopefully she was just having a hard time transitioning to WKU.

Since taking this Math 116 course I have had to teach myself most of the work. She is a hard person to approach, it seems as if many students are scared to ask her questions in class because she will raise her voice or look at them as if they are stupid. Overall she is not a good teacher and I wouldn't recommend her.

Mrs. Curtis is the only instructor that has ever helped me understand math. She takes time to help you outside of class, if you need it. She's patient and down to earth and explains math in a way so that non-math people can understand. The notes are powerpoints that you can print out off Blackboard at home before class. She gives a study guide for the test so you know exactly what's on it. She gives extra credit opportunities and makes class fun. If you have a hard time in math Mrs. Curtis is the one to take!!!
