Mr. Austin is a great teacher! He allows you to miss up to three classes before he starts deducting from your grade. I had a B when I went to talk to him at the end of the year, but because I never missed a class he took that into consideration and I made an A overall in the class. Textbooks are required and as long as you read you will do fine. There was two 1,000 word essays and one 3,000 word essay(which is your final). He grades pretty hard on papers, but if you put the effort in you'll get the grade you deserve. Discussion is a HUGE part of the class so be ready to talk. Overall, this was a great class and he is an awesome teacher. I'd recommend him to anyone!

Mr. Austin is awesome. You will have to do a lot of challenging readings and discuss what you read in class but Joe keeps it interesting. You also have to write one 3000 word paper and two 1000 papers. He also seems intimidating with his grading but he is not as harsh as his reputation. Everyone in my class loved him. Take this class.

This class requires a crap load of reading! Every class time there is a different assingment to be read. Quizes were rare and always questions asked by other students. Handwritten notes could be used on any quiz. Exams were easy. Reviews covered almost all material that would be covered. When reviewing Drama we watched almost all the plays aswell as read them. Overall pretty simple class just show up and read assignments. ***more than 4 missed classes drops your grade by a letter!!!!***

Mr. Austin was a wondering instructor. I was a terrible writer and he really helped me. As long as you show up and do your readings, you will be fine. There are just 4 essays you have to do (as a summer course). He grades based on your improvement throughout the course as well, I really enjoyed him.

Mr. Austin's class is one of the best I have had at Western. To do well in his class, all you have to do is read the short assignments for each class and then put foward your opinion about the reading. He also assigns a few essays but they are all about the READINGS!!! I don't understand how people could get below a B in his class. IF YOU DO THE READING YOU WILL DO WELL!!! SO DON"T BE A BUM... all you have to do is read and contribute in class!!!!

You have to write four papers and a required 2000 words research paper. That's all the class is about. Mr. Austin was pretty cool. Highly recommended.

This wasn't that bad of a teacher, the class was always everyone talking about the 2 essay's read from the prior week. There are 4 essay's and one 8 page research paper. You can only miss one class, and don't be late! I thought that he favored the girls a little bit, so if you are a girl, take him. But overall, not that bad, just boring.

If you like to talk, take this class. The whole class is based on discussion from 2 readings every week. There are 4 essays and a 6 page research paper. No quizzes, no test, no final. Just TALKING. It's kinda boring unless you are really into old timers writings. He grades kinda hard on your essays. You can only miss one class and you must be on time and you can't leave early (night class.) But otherwise it's alright.

Joe Austin was one of the worst teachers I have had here at WKU. He doesn't expain things very well at all and just expects you to know what he wants without ever telling you. He's not a mean guy, he just doesn't teach very well. He is really tough when grading your essays. The research paper has to be at least 10 pages and is extremely hard. I had him for night class and the class dragged on FOREVER! Stay away, DO NOT TAKE HIM!

Mr. Austin is a pretty good professor. Everyone knows English gets boring so that is expected. You do journals in the class instead of quizes so that's pretty nice. Tests are essay but you get to use your book on a couple of them. You are suppose to give your input about the million stories you read but if you're not a talker, you'll get by fine. Trust me!

i loved this guy! he is so incredibly easy! if your not wanting a hard core english class take this guy! he makes it much more interesting. i took him as a night class and actually looked forward to going every week. Attendance counts as participation, which is part of your grade, you only have like 5 essays and an 8 page research paper for the whole semester. highly recommended!!

all you have to do is read and participate in class. he is really big on participation. you only have 3 test and he tells you what will be on it the week before. you also have to write a paper on test days, and he tells what that will be. then there are two other papers you have to write. it may sound like a lot but it's not. he likes to call on people so beware, it can be boring, but what class isn't. it may seem intimidating at first, but it wears off.

I really enjoyed this course. There's a lot of discussion--that's basically the entire class time. There are only a few essays and one big paper, but the topics are really open and it's not all that bad. I liked this teacher quite a bit because he's attentive and open to questions, so you get a really good grasp on the material. Definitely recommend this course.

Two words....VERY EASY! Although I sometimes got a little lost on where his lectures where going, he was a pretty ok teacher. He will make you learn..sleep..and breathe the five common errors in student's writting. I learned a lot on my grammar technique and how to become a better writter (Mr. Austin knows what hes talking about). One good thing is Mr. Austin does not give tests as long as everyone can talk about the material he assigns. There is no final and you will write somewhere around 6-7 papers.
