This is one of the easier upper-level accounting courses I've had. You do not have a choice about which professor to choose, so I'll tell you a little about what goes on in the class. Dr. Colbert sounds tough when you read the syllabus, but she's really a very fun teacher and is very excited about the subject of audit. She does expect you to be in class for every class meeting. Even if you miss because of an interview or a job-seeking related event, she wants documentation of your visit to prove where you were. Rather than tests, she gave us multiple choice "assessments" which covered only one or two chapters. These are all taken on Blackboard (and most are timed), so you receive immediate feedback. The last few assessments were open-book and open-note. Though the class is pretty easy, there is a lot of busy work involved. She constantly has little assignments that are due, but she generally gives you at least a week to complete them. You do have to give a two-minute presentation over an audit related topic. (You must wear a professional business suit when giving your presentation or points will be deducted.) Sometimes she records lectures that you watch from Blackboard, rather than attending class. I didn't read the book; I just used it to clarify some things that I didn't understand from the lecture and during the open-book assessments. I really liked the class and Dr. Colbert.

I was told that accounting was an extremely hard class, but when I experienced it for myself I found that it isn't that bad. Dr. Colbert is very easy to follow and if you take good notes you'll never have to open the book except to do homework problems. She never pulls surprises on her tests. What she discusses in class is the information on them. Doing your homework is very important because 10% of your grade is homework/quizzes. You keep your highest 10 scores and drop the others, so most people do very well on that portion of the class. Overall, this class is very informative and gives you a general sense as to what accounting is all about. I definitely recommend taking Dr. Colbert.

I would not recommend her to my worst enemy. She goes way too fast and is not willing to work with you on anything. Her syllabus reads, "do not call, email, or leave me messages." So how are we suppose to get a hold of her??!! If you show up late she closes the door and locks it so you cannot get in. She grades your homework everyday. She has assigned seating if that tells you anything!!! Don't take her...especially if you are like me and have never taken acct before!

First you need to understand that accounting is not an easy subject. Colbert lectured using examples and overheads, which really helped me. Attendance is not required, but if you don't go to class, you will NOT understand the concepts. Also, on days where attendance is low, she will offer extra credit quizes, that are REALLY easy. You will have to take notes, but trust me, the notes are easier to understand than the book. My best advice is to go to class, and stick it out, because I doubt it will be any easier with another teacher

I really like Mrs. Colbert. She is very strict though, do your homework before class and don't get caught doing it in class she will throw it away. Don't show up late or you will have to talk to her after class. Her tests are exactly on what she talks about. Not difficult at all. I recommend taking her class.

DO NOT TAKE HER. She goes way to fast and does not have a sense of humor at all. I was at class everyday and did all of my homework and still made an F in the class. I strongly recommend you steer clear from her class room.
