To decide whether or not to take this course you would really have to sit in on it for a week or so. Dr. Owen has very different teaching methods! He does not cover anything in the book, but instead talks about really "different" things, and a lot about nutrition, and making yourself "whole" and complete...and all that. He's a really nice guy, but my whole class felt the same about how weird the lectures are. The course was fairly easy, you just have to read the chapters a time or two to do well on the tests.

don't take him unless you are extremely liberal or can tolerate someone forcing opinions on you. he does not care what you have to say or how you feel about his lectures, all he wants to hear is how great he is. the only positive thing about him is he introduced me to yoga and that will be the only reason i do not entirely regret meeting this man.

Mr. Owens makes you think about the world around you. This class is taught by yourself and your peers. If you come to class, take notes, and study you can easily get an A!

I already knew a lot about psychology when I took this class, so getting good grades was easy. The tests come straight from the book, which we don't discuss in class, and if he writes anything on the board, you better write it down, too. We did yoga one day, which was fun. Other than that, I really did not like this class. It was interesting to hear what other people have to say about various things in our culture and country, but I don't particularly like having those views shoved down my throat. Ernie is against anything and everything that the majority of people are doing and you will get bombarded with the reasons why the president sucks and how corporate America is ruining the world. My dad is a minister, but I didn't dare let Ernie know that because he disapproves of religion as well. I didn't let any of his views upset upset me, because I never would have made it through his class. I don't think I personally adjusted or grew during this class, but you might. According to Ernie, I'm just another typical, closed minded peon out to ruin the world because I'm unaware and unwilling to learn.

This guy is a total weirdo. You can get an easy A if you listen to his opinions about everything and constanting boasting disguised as other people's opinions of him. He never talks about anything in the text which makes up 90% of the test. Did I learn anything? Only that this man must have tenure because he does nothing.

If you are willing to buy and read the textbook, then this course will be a breeze. He does not discuss material from the book...talks about horses, sex ed., etc..things that don't really make sense; however, he gives extra credit which helps with the overall grade.

This guy is the worst professor I have had at Western. He goes on and on about how great of a teacher (he claims students have told him that), but he doesn't teach anything. He uses the class time to tell the students random liberal ideologies he has, and backs up everything he says by saying "research says." You have to memorize the book to get any info. for the test b/c he only mentions the material a couple of times during the semester. All I learned from this class is egotistical professors with tenure can get away with doing absolutely nothing.

This class is awsome. TAKE THIS CLASS. This man is a genius- pay attention to what he says. I don't care if your physical health requirement is filled already- take it. It's like no other class you ever have taken, or ever will take. You won't regret it. I'm serious, take this class- You'll come out enlightened.

I loved this class. Mr. Owen is a great person however, he is a friend, not a teacher. You will teach yourself the material for the test. Each student has a day that they teach the class over a section in the book. Then you have a test over around 3 chapters. He expects you to learn everything yourself. Great man but not a teacher. You also get to do Yoga!

ernie's classes are fun and eye opening. the only down side is that they have nothing to do with the tests. you have to read the chapters for that information. this class is cake and everyone should have him before becoming a teacher.

Dr. Owen has taught me a lot about being a teacher. I suggest taking him and learning from what he actually teaches AND his actions (because I guarentee you will not like all of them). You lose five points from your participation grade every day you miss class. READ THE TEXTBOOK for the tests and you'll do fine. People say they're hard, but the lowest grade I've made on one is a B. He is very willing to work with his students and pushes you to think outside the box.

Easy but weird class. All test questions come straight from the book and often the test question included the answer. Use the website in the text book to find questions that will be on the test. Class lecutures are just B.S. and 90% of it won't be on the test. Ownes loves to argue so speek up because half your grade is based on class participation. You won't learn a lot from this class, but it is EASY.

Dr. Owen has got to be the best professor I have ever taken, not to mention the most inspiring. At first people seem to get frustrated with his teaching style, but if you give him the time and effort, everything you do is class is worth your while. He teaches you not only about children and teaching, but he gives you a priceless lesson on life itself. I recommend Dr. Owen for Educational Psychology for anybody who not only wants to be a teacher someday, but also to anybody who ever wants to be a parent. You'll also get a little fun lesson in yoga in class!

Ernie, well Ernie is Ernie. There is no other teacher like him. He is very laid back and has a wonderful personality. But he does not teach. He divides the class in mini groups called jigsaw groups and you have to take a part of the info in the book and become "EXPERTS" on it in like 30 minutes and go back to your group and teach it to the rest of the groups. The class was fairly easy because I just study out of the book. Ernie would sometimes go over a topic that took 10 minutes and that was guaranteed to be on the test. Ernie talks alot about his daughter, granddaughter, yoga, and horses. He relates everything to this but it is very interesting. You have 3
critical performances and he does not grade them nor does he know anything about them. IF you do one the wrong way, you have to meet with a grad student to help you, not Ernie. He is fun but does not teach you a thing!

Who can pass up yoga after tests? Ernie is a cool, laid back professor. However, he is very liberal and set in his views. Since we saw eye to eye I enjoyed his class tremendously, but some others might not. To do well on tests you do have to study out of the book on your own, but who cares... you'll learn a lot on how to deal with stressful teaching situations just from his stories.

This guy is pathetic. If you are not liberal and if you believe in God and America then either do not take the class or keep your mouth shut. Owen is a complete hypocrite, talks about conditioning, and reality being ones own perception, but lets you know real quick his perceptions are reality and any thing else is just wrong. uses his class as time to read propaganda. takes full advantage of the captive audience to push his beliefs on others. the book was only used for tests, he added questions about his "lectures" on the test. example: why is the bush administrations stance on sex ed wrong? and what can you do to change right wing authoritarian traits about yourself?

Dr. Owen is a nice person and he has some great stories to tell about his teaching experiences. I think he has an answer to any problem you may face in education. However, he never goes over what's on the exam. So, you have to read and learn the material on your own. If you study, you should do OK on the tests

Dr. Owen is a good teacher, but his tests were hard because they came from the book. He didn't really talk to you about the book either. I like how he thinks, and the personal examples he gives. He definitely wants you to talk, so TALK! My class didn't, and that made it somewhat awkward and boring for us. Take him because he's nice, and yes, he is very laid back.

Dr. Owen claims he never teaches the class the same way twice. My semester, the students taught the course. This really made learning hard. We really had to read the book well, little things would be on the tests. Take good notes of everything that he says, which is very little. You will have short answer questions on the test based on his 10 min. a day lectures. You do 3 computer projects and several tests, plus teach a section from the book. A grad assistant does all of his grading, and she/he is usually very slow at grading. The computer projects weren't difficult, but could become very frustrating because he didn't ever know what was going on with them, since the grad assistant did that work. The work load isn't overbearing, very manageable for any college student.

Dr. Owen is like no other professor I have ever had. He is extremely laid back...but almost in an annoying way. He rarely teaches the class, but he loves to tell stories about his horses and Yoga...and he attempts to relate them to the subjects being discussed for the test. You must read in order to pass the tests and take notes if he ever says anything that you believe will be on the exam. Go to class!! He is very strict on this and it will raise your grade a ton if you just go to this class. Be aware...you will never know what you're going to talk about next!!
