Serafini is the best Western Civ professor at WKU. Period. He is funny, and he knows all his material. His classes are very enthusiastic. Exams are all essays so make sure you take notes of everything that he says, not only the power point slides. If you get As in the first two exams you can opt-out of the final.

Mr. Serafini's history class was one of my favorites this semester but I wouldn't consider it an easy "A". I never missed class and still had to study pretty hard for the tests. He always lets you know when there is a quiz, so make sure you do the reading, because the quizzes are pretty tricky. He always has study sessions before the exams so you can ask any questions and he will even give you hints as to what will be on the exams. I highly recommend this class, it is always interesting and has plenty of jokes for every lecture.

Great teacher! Western Civ is a pretty boring class, but Dr. Serafini keeps the class pretty interested with his tid bits on history and hilarious jokes! You'll be lucky to get him. The exams are all essay and short answers but are pretty easy to study for. I actually did not buy the book and study off the notes given. That didn't help for the quizzes but made the exams easy.

Dr. Serafini is amazing! He is a really good teacher with a good sense of humor who will make you laugh even if you take this class at 8:00. You won't fall asleep. He knows his stuff and is always willing to help you out. I would take his class again if I could. There are quizzes that are multiple choice and fill in the blank over the reading, but aren't too bad. Tests are the standard essay tests for history classes. This was a great class and I recommend taking Serafini!

I was really dreading History but Serafini made it awesome. He is a great teacher! He related it to us so we could understand it. You do have to pay attention in class closely and take notes, but he's very easy to listen to. But as an history class i suggest you sit closer to the front so you don't fall asleep. But, overall he's on of the best teachers ive ever had! Make sure you study well for the test because they are all in the blue book and strictly pouring your knowledge on paper.

Serafini really knows what he is talking about and always finds a way to make the material interesting and relevant. He is more about wanting you to grasp the general concept of how things progressed in history, rather than memorizing dates. You have to keep up with the readings- he gives "pop" quizzes over the assigned readings but usually hints that they are coming up. There are a few short papers (1-2 pages) based on the text. The more notes you take, the better shape you will be in when studying for the exams, which are all essay format. As long as you apply yourself and pay attention in class you should do fine. Serafini is willing to answer questions and help any way he can and answers emails promptly. I learned a lot and enjoyed myself way more than I thought I would!

David Serafini, by far is the most entertaining teacher I have ever had. I am taking this class for a second time around because I barely passed the other time with a D. He's very funny and his lectures are very informing. When he talks about the different kings, he uses people that we know to explain them better and that's been very helpful. He is an awesome teacher. I have learned more from him than I did with the other teacher and they teach the same thing. Take this man you won't be disappointed. I promise ya!

The Dave is really a great guy. I really do not like history, but he teaches it like it's a story and really keeps the student interested. He's really funny and helps relate the information to modern times. However, the tests aren't necessarily easy as this isn't quite an "easy A" class. You have a couple of primary sources assignments in which you have to write a two-page paper after analyzing primary history sources. There are 4 tests--2 in class, 1 out of class, and a final. He gives study guides for each. Really the best history teacher I've had.

Okay, here is the thing. You have to go to class. If you miss a day, even if you copy your friends notes, you have lost vital information that you will need to be able to call upon when doing an essay. So... go to Class!!
Serafini is a hilarious teacher and if you try in his class you will get at least a B if not an A. (Watch Eddie Izzard - Dressed To Kill before the semester starts and you'll understand and laugh at most of his jokes.)
There are 3-4 Primary Assignments and the final as well as 10 Quizes. (Read for the quizes... they are suppose to be "pop" quizes but he always, always, always lets you know)
Even if you don't love history, Serafini will make you enjoy his class. Have a good attitude and simply try and you can't fail. Well, you "could" fail... but you probably wont.

Serafini did an excellent job making the subject as interesting as possible. He did lecture the entire time, but he does have a powerpoint to go along with his lecture (powerpoints are not posted on blackboard). He gives periodic quizzes over the assigned reading from the book, but will usually warn you as to when a quiz will be and will occasionally give bonus questions. He holds optional review sessions before the tests and gives out a study guide that basically gives a list of what the questions could be. Especially after hearing complaints from friends about other history professors, I would definitely recommend Serafini!

From what I have heard, most of the history teachers for 120 haven't gotten very good reviews. This guy is definitely your best choice. Yes, you have to take notes pretty much all class long (a mix of powerpoint and what he says), but he presents the information in the most enjoyable way possible and is an excellent speaker. He's pretty funny and will throw out some lame jokes but some good ones, too. The exams are essay - ID's, short answer, and then the essay, but he gives you a good review sheet and basically tells you what some of the questions will be if you go to his optional review sessions for the tests. You won't have a better choice here. Take Serafini.

Serafini is a good teacher who i learned alot from. His class however, can be difficult if you do not attend each day and take good notes because he covers alot of information daily. During the semester you have to take 4 test all of which are essay. You also have to write 4 document question, which are easy. He usually does give reviews before each test, which helps ALOT! If you are going to spend time studying i would reccomend him to you, but if you are not going to take good notes, attend class daily, and study i would not reccomend him because you will not do well!!!!!!!!!!

This course is very good for those of us who are not history majors. Dr. Serafini dumbs it down and makes the lecture material interesting. You take a lot of notes, but it helps out in the end when you have to study for his tests. As far as they go, he gives you a study guide at least a week in advance and it pretty much lists the topics and key sources you have to know for the exam. I highly recommend going to his review sessions. They are informative and very helpful in understanding the overall picture. Dr. Serafini is a cool guy and I highly recommend you take this class.

As far as History professors go, Serafini is one of the best I've seen - and I've had experience with more than one professor in the department to back this up. He usually comes to class on-time (no more than a couple minutes early), but if he gets through the content, he's more than happy to let you go early - IF he gets through the content. He's a BIG White Sox fan, so when they won the world series, we only had to take a quiz that Friday, then we were off. His semi-obscure pop culture references are hilarious if you get them, and awkward if you don't - but it's all good. One note: It's OK to be late now and then, but don't make a habit of it. Also, attendance IS rquired.

Serafini's teaching methods are some of the best for history, in my opinion. He teaches history like it's a story. The majority of the class he used powerpoints with note outlines, but the most info. comes from what he lectures along with the powerpoints. We had 10 quizzes, one being showing up the last day of class. We had 3 tests, plus the final which is not cumulative. Before each test, we had a study session which lasted usually 2 hours, going over about everything on the test. Test consisted of 6 ID's, 1 Short Answer, and 1 essay, no multiple-choice. We also had to do a book review on a non-fiction book about Western Civilization until 1648. This is not a fly-by-night course. You have to stay on top of things, at least reading the assigned pages in the book and taking notes. I've worked to hopefully make a B.

Best teacher I have had on campus so far. Very understanding guy who will always help you out. He's got some real corny jokes, but just do the work and study a little and you will be fine

I got a C in the class, but I am an extreme slacker who didn't attend so frequently the first half of the semester. Serafini is a wonderful history teacher with a natural ability to maintain your attention. He'll give you "fun lectures," as he put it, from time to time, and you'll learn about sheep and goat intestines being the first contraceptives. He definitely knows the subject, but also relates easily to the students. He does not drone. Be prepped for him to call you out if you come in looking ridiculous, shave your head for an organization, et cetera. There's never a lack of humility, and any student in the class will note that he makes a strong effort to explain history as something that happened to other people, not just "garb from a long time ago." I hate history, and the class was interesting. (Okay, I don't HATE it, but I have little ability to retain information.) It is mandatory that you take a Western Civ class, so get it with this man. I'll forwarn you, though, his classes seem to fill quickly so don't slack on getting in. The class will consists of one book analysis, but he's pretty flexible on the titles, understanding that "The History of Victorian England" may not thrill us all. The quizzes, I thought, were the hardest. He definitely prepares your for the tests, and they're not killers if you'll just study a little bit. Your notes will prove to be the most useful tool in the class. The final? It was the scariest part of the class. Most of the class got an A or B. Take Serafini!

If you like history then take this guy he knows his stuff. He is like a college student he acts cool to all of his students and will crack jokes on the people that really stand out . His test are hard because if you think you knew something you will be suprised to find out that you were wrong. You cant be sure of what he wants on short answer and defining key terms. His Quizs are almost imposible to make higher that a B or C he asigns pages to read then you are quized on your reading half the time you never see what you read on the quiz. My friend got 85% on her test while i got 75% and who know on quizies and god knows what on the final , yet she ended up with a C in the class. STUDY hard and LONG if you want an A or B

simply put, serafini is the man. even though ive walked into his class many times too tired to stand up, i find it impossible to sleep once he starts talking. he goes out of his way to ask if youre doing fine in school, in other classes besides his, and he's more than willing to help with things. this is the guy to take for 120, so get on it, go get in his class if you havent taken history yet.

For this class you just have to be commited. You have to know that the test are based on lecture and you have to study for the test. It may seem overwhelming at first but it is really NOT that bad. He is a great teacher for such a hard and boring subject. He makes the class interesting and tries to keep your attention. From what I have heard about any other Western Civ teacher Serafini is the one to take!!!~!~

Serafini is an awesome lecturer. He makes history come alive somewhat. His test are complete essay and he gives a study guide for each. The final is only over the last section you cover. You do have to read a book for this class and write a paper..but it is not hard. This is not a cake class but if you enjoy a challenge and want a good teacher Serafini is awesome.

Serafini is a great teacher! The class is a daily lecture class and I took lots of notes, but that's just me. Aside from essay, tests are identifications and short answers. He makes history fun and exciting and understands that some parts are boring. Give him a try!

Serafini just wants to know you've learned something from him. The tests are essay, but they are broad easy questions. He lectures and plays videos. He teaches things that you might not learn in a regular Western Civ class. He'd rather we know some interesting facts than a lot of boring ones. He has quizzes over reading that are pretty specific, but if you look at picture titles and skim the book you'll be ok. There is also a big writing assignment over a book, but as long as you try then he'll grade pretty easy. It wasn't that stressful a class.

If there is any class you take in college, it should be a history course taught by Mr. Serafini. I enjoyed this class more than all my other classes put together. If history (west. civ) doesn't interest you...he'll change your mind. He is very young and has a good sense of humor. And he does everything to make his class enjoyable. He even gave us extra credit for watching a movie. You don't have to take notes, you can just listen...but it helps you on the tests- which are resonable.
