Fundamentals was my absolute favorite Nursing course of my first semester. Mrs. Briggs and Mrs. Botner split up the teaching for the semester and they are both absolutely wonderful! They make it so easy to understand! Clinicals were awesome, we went to Britthaven on Scottsville Road. The tests are pretty easy and they are taken on computers at Mass Media. LOVED this class and these teachers!!!

I cannot even begin to express how great of a teacher Mrs. Briggs is!!! I considered her, one of, if not the best teacher I have had at Western! The class is difficult because it is a first semester nursing course. I suggest taking your book to class every time and follow along in the book. Mrs. Briggs does not give you powerpoint notes, she mainly follows the book and will tell you where to find what she said. She was my clinical instructor and she was awesome!!! She trusts her students, but she will let you know when you do something wrong. I feel that is incredibly important, especially for nursing students. She may be tough on you while you are in her class, but you will be very thankful to her in the end. Just listen in class and think about the information that is presented. The tests aren't incredibly difficult, just read the question. Usually the answer is obvious if you've studied for a few minutes. I only studied longer than 30 minutes for the first exam and the final!

I loved this class but wished I could have spent more time in the class because it was VERY fast paced. Dont let that worry you, my grade wasn't because it was extremely difficult, I just couldn't personally keep up because I let myself get behind early in the semester and played catch up for the rest of the time. DONT FALL BEHIND!!!
It is hard to take notes. My advice is to get highlighters and a pencil and scribble notes in your book. Trust me - this will be your most used book for the first semester!!!
I think Crista is a great professor. I think she cares for her students and wants everyone to succeed. I found her a little hard to talk to at times though because I never really got to know her and she seemed a little distant because she was out alot the semester I had this class on maternity leave and we actually had another teacher, Mrs. Botts. She was also really nice and great to work with.

It was hard for me to study for the tests because if I listened in class I new the material for the test which was great. Mrs. Briggs is a great instructor. I didn't feel as comfortable asking questions as I have with other instructors, but it may be because I had her my first semester of nursing school and I was scared anyway. Read as much as you can, especially the boxes in the book. It may not be necessary except for you to skim the chapters. That worked for me.
