Warning! Never take Professor Jones, especially if you are an international student and even if you are an American too. She is the worst teacher I've ever had, and I'm a senior and have been educated in other universities as well. This teacher is not clear about anything. She doesn't help her students at all. She just refers them to the book. She has a superiority complex and thinks she can make the class as unclear and difficult as possible. Some would say she is a narcissist (or the word that begins with b.) Do yourself a favor and take another professor if you have to take this course. The book isn't helpful either. We actually had someone majoring in English in the course who couldn't deal with her. She takes off points on extra credit, which hurts your grade. What kind of teacher does that? She does not like it when students are right. She does not like their ideas if they aren't influenced by her. Don't be creative. Just do what she wants, and even that's not enough. You'll never know what she wants. You can try to figure her out, but you'll make yourself sick. She's just all around bad and ineffective. She has many useless assignments on top of big projects. She has no tests, but honestly I would take tests over her horrible assignments. Her assignments are repetitive over the same information too as well as some being long and lengthy. If you have other classes and work for her, your other classes will probably suffer. She has no sympathy for you if you are doing a group project, and your group members are worthless or don't include you. She assigns work on snow days. I can say so much more, and the semester is almost over. I can't wait to trash everything related to this course and put it behind me. Please tell everyone you know to not ever take her course. No one should ever take her again!

She is a very knowledgeable professor, as I am sure that she has had many years in which to perfect her skills. However, her behavior in class one day was totally unprofessional. She called us a bunch of "slack ass students" and that she was going to "open up a can of whoop ass on us if we did not leave." I am not exaggerating at all. The bad thing is that she went and told her other classes that same day and tried to make an example of us. Not cool.
She knows her stuff; she's just a little anal and a little OCD.

This class is a lot of work. I had the Independent Learning version of the course. The instructions are not always clear, but she is quick with responses to questions. She knows the information very well, but inturn grades difficult. I spent HOURS on writings expecting an A and ended up with a B.

If you want an A, don't take this class unless you're prepared to work your butt off. Dr. Jones grades very hard. There's usually no homework. There are only 4 essays, but they're kind of lengthy. Expect to do a whole-class-peer-response workshop for essays 1-3. It's kind of neat if you like that sort of thing. If you want a little bit of humor for Eng 100, take Dr. Jones. She's kind of cooky in her own little way.

In Angela Jones' fantasy land, the only thing that matters is her class. Technical Writing is the end-all, beat-all course. If you pass it, you are free to become anything from a rocket scientist to a brain surgeon.
The problem with that is none of this is true.
Not only does Jones' class teach things you should have learned in high school (resume writing, letter formats), but there are several completely different courses in the English department that teach the exact same things that she does.
Her bubbly, flower-child attitude wears thin within seconds of the class starting. Your ability to appreciate her good humor is tempered by the fact that she dumps incredible amounts of work into your lap as though her class was the only obligation you had. For example, she makes you write a ten-page instruction manual on how to build an item out of Legos. And that's not even half of the rubbish you have to fill out in order to make a decent grade on that particular project. What's more, she calls her final project a "Capstone Project". How much hubris do you have to possess to call your objectively worthless class' final project a "CAPSTONE" project?
Exasperating as a class, and does not play well with other advanced courses.

She is super funny and kinda weird, but I really liked her. She is a BlackBoard freak, so be on it a lot. THERE ARE NO TESTS!!! There are 5 papers that are fairly easy. She is a great teacher and I loved her. P.S. Her instructions are never really clear so be sure to look at them really well.

Dr. Jones is very enthusiastic about English, and is a good teacher. The quantity of writing is not that much (we wrote 5 papers during the semester, progressing from a simple 2 page essay to a 5-7 page research paper). The papers are generally on difficult subjects to write on; figuring out what to write about (especially something that interested me) was difficult for a few of them. She is also very rigid on all of the technicalities. She wants all assignments turned in one exact way (on some we had to submit them in a file folder along with our annotated sources), and sources must be cited exactly the right way. This is the area where I really disliked the course. She will teach you how to cite sources correctly. Class participation is mandatory; you will do whole class peer response for every paper. I don't think that she gives A's. If you work very hard, turn everything in perfectly, and attend every class, maybe you'll get an A.

There is not even enough space to sum up my feelings for this course. I am only going to hit the important information you will want to know. 1. NO possible way to receive an A
2. NO extra credit to help grade
3. More busy work, that is absolutely useless, then you will ever see in your life!
4. Ridiculous expectations for a 300 level class, teacher assumes you are only taking her course.
5. The best class ever, if you want to pull you hair out every single day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
6. Oh, did I mention you can't get an A

Dr. Jones' class really isn't all that hard but there is a TON of what I call "busy" work that is really pointless in the long run. Although I did fine in the class I believe that she leaves a little something to be desired in the teaching area. Just know going into the class that you will have busy work and assignments.

She has a great deal of knowledge about this subject. However, it is physically impossible to get an A in the class. I completely worked my a$$ off and only recieved a B. She is very strict and sticks with the guidlines. There is no going outside of them and if you do, you will pay for it! There are no tests. Just papers and presentations. If your wanting devote your whole semester to writing technical papers and presentations, she is the teacher for you.

Great teacher. She is young and knows how to relate to her students. She is very helpful and is more than willing to work with her students. She gave us plenty of time to write our essays and enough time to correct them before the deadline. If you put in the effort it is easy to get an A. I think she is a great asset to the English dept at Western and I hope she comes back next year. She is a really cool lady. Take her for any English class you can!

She's a funny teacher. She doesn't grade hard at all but the assignments that she does make, you need to do them. It's a fun class and you will have a fun time with her. If you have the opportunity to take her class, I would highly recommend it.
