Additional Comments
First off, Dr. Gelderman is Outstanding; he does take some getting used to though. He tries to intimidate you on the first day of class but that is just because he doesn't want any slackers. He makes himself out to be very rigid but he is actually very kind and will work with you on almost anything. He doesn't take attendance but you will do much better in the class if you are there because he has a way of explaining things much better than the book ever could. It helps to buy the book though because he likes to have discussions and will call on people in class and gets pretty annoyed if no one has read the material. All in all though, an excellent professor. I mean, he uses songs from Monty Python movies as part of his curriculum - how could you not love him? His class is challenging but not impossible. Plus he gives you so many extra credit opportunites that if you turn them all in it ends up being like 25 raw points added to your grade which can really help out. I left this class feeling that I had a real knowledge about astronomy. His teaching methods just make the information stick. He is wonderful and I highly reccommend him - and don't drop him after the first day... just give him a chance!
