Everybody on here is freaking out about her. I think it is because everyone feels entitled to be given an A in a SOCL 100 course. Sorry to tell you, but if you are willing to put forth the work and treat her with respect, you should have no problems. I made an A and I didn't even read the textbook (although I highly recommend it). She gave an extra credit journal and will round up grades for students who try and step out of their privilege.

Love, Love, LOVE this class and this teacher! (Mrs.Onye-cool-la-j) This class did not count towards my major or gen ed. I just took it for funsies. Every day we had a short response to an article we read out of the textbook and it was super easy. Some were difficult but hey, it's homework. She enjoys her subject and her students. We debated on controversial topics such as Abortion, hungry, homeless children etc. Great way to open your mind and think a little about the people around you instead of yourself for once. I would recommend anyone to take this class.

Dr. Onyekwuluje is a good teacher. She helps students understand the material. She is very willing to work with you, meet at a time that is convenient, and will even give you a percentage point or two if you are borderline for a grade. The tests are not hard. If you write her powerpoints down and look at the key concepts in the book, you basically have a copy of the test. Definitely take her class!!!

I despised this class. Her notes came from Mcgraw-Hill but her tests are from her own thoughts. It's really hard to figure out some of her tests because it is based so much from her own opinions. I like her as a person, but I hated her class. You only have 4 grades and that is it. No homework, no quizzes, no nothing. Purely, TESTS!! I will not be taking her class again or any other classes. Extremely difficult to understand is what it boils down too.

Dr. Onyekwuluje is a wonderful women who isn't racist in anyway and i'm saying this as a middle class WHITE man. Anyone who thinks she is racist only believes that because you actually have to work in the class to get your grade and isn't just given to you. She will work with any student at any time to give help in her class. I say everyone should try to have her. She loves her subject and teaches it at the best of her abilities and she does a great job. She is a FAIR and WONDERFUL teacher and isn't racist or biased in anyway.

Although she purports not to require attendance, anyone who doesn't attend class will likely score poorly on the exams because a large percentage of the information comes not from the book, but rather from her own very biased opinions.
This professor honestly doesn't have a very good grasp of the information she is supposedly teaching. Sure, she can answer the questions on her own tests, but she has no idea how the concepts actually work together. Class boils down to a lecture of her own personal politics and faulty beliefs. For example, last week we were told that only "5%" of the people in the world (97 billion) were male.
Basically, she's incredibly eccentric and I wholeheartedly encourage people NOT to sign up for this class. This isn't because I have any hard feelings, I have an A, it's just been a very frustrating experience for many of us in the class and I think everyone deserves fair warning for what they might have to deal with.

i absolutly love this women..she is the reason i am choosing sociology as my minor. she was great, very sweet and very understanding. i had to turn in papers late due to a death and she totally accepted. i know alot of people thinks she was racist but i am a upper middle class WHITE girl and i didnt see any problem with her. she just teaches the class. the test can be difficult if you dont study. theres only 100 points possible but she does give two opportunitys for extra credit..that is why i got an A. but i do recommend her to everyone

Not only is she racist, she is extremely sexist. "Power to the black women in the class" seemed to be her motto. And I am a female, but I didn't find it useful talking about how women are still prejudiced against in the job atmosphere, because I really don't believe they are. Her classes were a JOKE. The whole powerpoint that you go through every class is just definitions straight from the book-I guess in an effort to make her feel like she's actually teaching. But when you get the tests it's all application of the information in the chapters. She is horrible to talk to, she DOES NOT care if you pass or fail. There's no make-up work at all and that is detrimental to people that become ill in the semester.

She LOVES class discussions. We only did two things in class, and thats DISCUSS and TAKE NOTES. But you don't even need to read if you just take notes. Just participate in class and she'll like you. I did, and my test were getting more points than they were worth. She says she rarely gives A's, but if you can handle a B, its a laidback class.

For a 100 level course I found Dr. O to be a little difficult. I am a sociology major, so I really enjoyed everything we learned. Her exams are 50 questions all multiple choice and are difficult. One tip I can give is make sure you read every chapter that she covers (since a lot of the exam questions are only covered by the book and not her lecture). Her lecture notes are all powerpoint- so yes, they are boring! She does let a lot of class time for class discussion. I know a lot of students in my class found her to be REALLY TOUGH.

I am so tired of seeing bad evaluations about professor Onyekwuluje. She is NOT racist!!! I am a white student and I did very well in her class. She refuses to take any CRAP from students. She does not spoon feed you the information you need to pass her class, she expects for you to do a little bit of work yourself. I mean we are in college, not elementary school! She is very opinionated, but she welcomes students opinions as well. The subject of sociology brings out people's opinions, or at least it should. She wants her students to think about the things that are discussed in class. Not just memorize facts to regurgitate back on a test and forget 10 minutes later. Her grading scale is a little hard to figure out, but if you speak up in class and participate that helps your grade. You can't sit there the entire semester and say nothing, she practically BEGS her students to communicate with her. The people that were in my class wanted to sit there silent and then complain about their grade. She gives you plenty of opportunities to come to her office and talk to her about your tests and grade. She also doesn't want students to completely concentrate on the letter grade, she wants her students to walk away with more knowledge than they came to class with.

where do I begin, i guess i will start with... READ THE CHAPTERS you really dont have to go to class at all b/c all the notes are taken directly from the book, but all the notes she has you take are not necessarilly on the test. immediatly learn types of beliefs (conflict, functionalist and another one i think) knowing the way that someone with these particular beliefs would respond to a situation is probably about a letter grade worth of questions on the tests. Make sure you type those questions that are in the book that she assigns, they are easily BSed and help out immensly. It really isnt that hard of a subject, it is just the leader of the class. The class period is used to continuasly take notes, it is a mixed blessing when you have a discussion day b/c although you are not writing forever, you are usually at each others throats (we were about 15 seconds from a fist fight when she decided to call class for the day). I felt the class was used for her personal soap box with a little Sociology sprinkled in so she would be considered a Sociology teacher.
I had some pet peeves with her... I don't know if she was just being the devils advocate or not but during discussions she was very aggresive, would try to put words in your mouth, exaggerated the truth if it helped her out, and would change the subject if she realized that she was caught in a lie or couldnt think of anything to defend her opinions with. She moved increadibly fast on her notes (for the amount onscreen) and would be very pissed if you asked her to go back for a moment (she uses powerpoint slides)

This is not a good teacher to take for this class. I would not recommend Mrs. Onyekwuluje to even my worst enemy! The class itself is based souly on your tests grades and the tests are very hard. She is very opinionated and doesn't teach one thing in class. The only way to learn is to read and read and reread again, which takes forever. You might as well have it for an ecourse but she doesn't help a bit! If I had only listened to my friends who had her previously I wouldn't be in the mess that I am in now. First off, I would just like to question the Sociology Dept. here at Western for hiring this ignorant woman. Teachers are supposed to respect their students and the opinions of their students, and grade them accordingly. This woman doesnt do that in any way. She only considers her own opinions, and if you think differently, then you wont do well in this class. She talks about how racism is such a problem in this country, but she too in fact, is racist. This class wouldnt be so hard if she actually respected everyone's opinion. You have to write a reading response each week over some ridiculous article she assigns you to read, if you dissagree with what the article says, you dont get a good grade on the paper. If you dont think how she does, then you're wrong and you will probably fail the class. This woman knows nothing about what it means to be an educator, and I am greatly disturbed as to why, or how this woman is a college professor. The department of sociology at WKU has made an extremely bad decision in giving this woman a job.

We all need help and dont know where to turn. The only grades we have are tests and everyone does very porely on them. This lady needs help. She doesnt know how to be a teacher. Someone with authority needs to review this lady and her attitude problem. Please help me! Mrs. Onyekwuluje's class is killing me! She is such a bad teacher and I dont know what to do! The only grades we have are her tests and they are hard. We take a lot of notes and none of them have anything to do with the tests. Somebody needs to do something about this teacher! Dont ever express you opinion in her class because she will snap your head off! And if you aren't African American, dont think about taking this class anyway. (Even though she doesnt like some of them either.) She never talks about what is on the tests and she doesnt care what your grade is. She wont help you and she wont listen to you. This teacher is terrible! I have never met anyone who knew less about sociology in my life! She doesnt care about her students and their grade. The only thing that she cares about is expressing her opinion and turning down yours. Everyone in my class got a D or an F except for a few people. She doesnt care about you or what you think. Her tests are very difficult and require more studying than usual....I had a class that took alot of my time to prepare and study for...and I just didn't have the time to put forth an effort in this class. It is not an easy A....If you need it to fulfill a requirement....I would not recommend taking it with her.

Dr. Onyekwuluje is without a doubt the worst teacher I have ever had in my entire life. She is extremely biased in her opinions, and if you dissagree with her in any way, you wont do well in the class. Her tests are only 15 multiple choice questions, but they arent based on fact in any way, they are based on her ridiculous opinions, so she basically forces you to think how she thinks, which is completely unjustified. I would advise anyone (especially if you're republican) not to take her class, you dont learn anything in there so you're basically wasting every last penny you paid to take that idiotic class.

Dr. Onyekwuluje was very difficult. On the first day she said that she rarely if ever gives A's. She is very oppinionated and does not consider other points of view. Mrs. O is an excellent teacher, but don't count on going over the information on the test in class-that is strickly from the textbook. Her test were very difficult but very short-15 multiple choice. She offers a lot of extra credit and I reccommend that you do it! She is not racist despite what others may say, she treated everyone the same and with same amount of respect in my class. This class was revised last semester b/c, as you can see, many people did not do well before. I found this class very interesting (our class debated a lot on controversial issues), but the tests were a little difficult (as in I had to study). You have a question from the book every week but no projects or essays or papers. She gave a one time extra credit if you attended a speech. If you read the book and write down the power point notes you will be fine. She's a really nice lady (I'm white and didn't think she was racist!).

The class isn't really that hard, but I didn't learn much. Sometimes I thought Ms. Onyekwuluje didn't really know what she was talking about. The tests cover stuff that she doesn't go over, but it's all in the book so it's relatively easy. Ms. Onyekwuluje is a nice enough person but she's just not a very good teacher. I would recommend taking a different class if you're really interested in Sociology.

We sit in a circle and talk, then the test comes around and its just a random sentence on page whatever that will be her question. I really hated having this class, she is not that bad as an individual, but as a professor...she SUCKS. I honestly would not recomend her. This was a terrible class! I can't believe I got out of bed every morning for it! Do NOT take professor O. My notes were an absolute war zone. She would constantly skip from one subject to another without notice, and going back and reading the notes was much similar to reading a foreign language!! (NO JOKE!!!) She makes the class much harder than it should be. She is very opinionated, and does not teach by the textbook that she makes you read. She tells students to use what the textbook says rather than what she says on the test, then she uses both for her answers. She words things badly on the tests, and does not always understand the material.

She appears to know what she is talking about, but she is horrible when it comes to delivering the message to her class. She tells you to study notes for the test, when really what you should have done was read the book. She doesn't like to be wrong either. She is not a good teacher at all, and her tests are very hard to make even a decent grade on.

She teaches from the book so you don't have to take too many notes. She talks more about her opinion than keeping it neutral and open. Her point system is not fair. I did not like her class at all. I DO NOT recommend her class at all!!

Her exams are very difficult and over very detailed information from the text, which is never discussed in class. Also, a 3 hour mandatory community service activity is required at an elementary school, and you must submit a write-up. In order to get an A in the course, you must make a 94%. I studied a great deal for the final, and it was still very difficult. I had a higher average in organic chemistry than in this class. Also, the majority of the course centered around racial issues rather than more neutral issues, so if you don't want to hear about how bad the African American race has it in this country, I do not recommend this course. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!

Besides two tests and a final exam, you have to do an article analysis, service project write-up, and keep up with a journal as often as class meets. The grading scale is too severe. I would recommend doing most of your studying from the book, not notes, for the test.

Dr. Onyekweuluje has great disscussions, and I actually learned alot. However, what you discuss in class is not necessarily what you are tested over. She gives no study guides, no reviews, and her tests are extremely difficult. I have only gotten two C's in my entire career as a student. In this class I received a D.

This class would be a mistake to take for anyone who is looking for a class that will fill a requirement. You will not get an A because she grades 77% and below is an F. The material is not really hard, but she asks questions that can't be found anywhere. Her tests are impossible. Her questions are too deep. This clas is more like a higher level class. It is nothing like a 100 level course should be.

It is almost impossible to receive an A. She grades on a point system that is very harsh. If you convert it to percentage, anything below 77% is an F. The material isn't hard, but the way she presents and words her questions is difficult. In addition she tends to not be impartial to her students.
