mrs. york started out being a great teacher. then when it came time to do speeches she expected to much out of us. this is an introductory course and she did not grade according to this. she is a grad. student and sometimes taught at grad. level. she assumed that we should know everything. i wouldnt suggest her as a teacher.

OK everyone that looks at this, you must know that this is not a real class it is a gen ed and is supposed to be easy right? wrong! Misty tries so hard to make this a real class and it just doesn't fly. you really do not have a choice on the topics that you use for your speeches because if they are not approved by her then tough luck. I hate this class and can't believe that I actually stayed in here. My opinion is that if you want to be a teachers pet a suck up really well then take this class, if not stay away, stay far far away!

I took years of speech in HS and I was on my HS speech team and all of that couldn't save me in her class. She is very set in her ways and doesn't appear to be open to change. She grades your speeches on very technical things and I felt too much attention was paid to minute details and technical aspects of the speech and not the content. I know I gave good speeches, but she ripped me apart. She would be a better teacher for an upper-level course where people have had more experience with public speaking, but she gradely really harshly for an intro. class. There were also several instances where I would turn in ideas for speeches and ask for suggestions and I would get no response. Once I left her a note on a page asking for suggestions and she wrote "heh heh"...not at all usesful to me. I would avoid her if you can!

This class is really helpful and interesting. Sometimes I felt like I was constantly giving speeches (4 major speeches throughout the semester) Tests are not hard and she is very understanding and patient! If you can, take York!

This was Misty's first semester here at Western. She's a grad. assistant but she does a pretty good job. You have to give 4 speeches. She's kind of picky, but she grades fairly. Make sure you understand what you have to do, if you need help, just go to her office hours. The tests are pretty easy and you have quizzes too. It was a pretty neat class.

She is an undergraduate professor. She is a good teacher but is boreing but she is rude and hateful. If you ask to her repeat something she will bite your head off and say that she has already said it once she isn't repeating it again! The tests are kind of hard. She gives some extra credit but not really enough to amount to anything! I would not reccomend her as a teacher!
