The class is interesting. She isn’t like how people say where she forces her views on you or anything like that. She is fair and takes into consideration other people’s perspectives. She will tell you if your understanding of the concept is wrong and explan it to you, but she doesn’t try to force you to see it her way. We have a student in our class who likes to disagree with everything she says, but she just laughs him off and let’s him do his thing. She does lectures and keeps you to the last second if she can. Her tests are hard! And she grades hard. She will even tell you this. I thought I did pretty good on the first test and failed it because I didn’t explain enough on the short answer. Write down pretty much everything you know about the topic she is asking about so you get full credit. Luckily she drops one test grade, so don’t worry if you bomb the first one... which she pretty much tells you to expect. And, make sure you come to class. You get too absences and then she starts taking 5 points off for every missed class after that.

This class is pretty hard as far as the tests go, but if you attend class and participate, she really will work with you on your grade. There are mandatory reflection papers, but you can re-do them as much as you want to get the grade you want. But she is an awesome professor, extremely relaxed and helpful, she really wants to see her students succeed!! I plan on taking all the courses she offers!

This class was a fun experience. Some people say that Ms. Ardrey is mean but I think that she is a good teacher, I recommend using her office hours because she is very helpful with one on one meetings.

Do not take this woman. I am an African American student, so do not think that it is a race thing. She has a TERRIBLE attitude! She is not helpful and she wants too much for a gen ed class. It is impossible to please her and very impossible to get an A. She gets mad when you do not kiss her butt. I would recommend Martha Sales because I have NEVER heard anyone complain about her class. I have met Mrs. Sales outside of the classroom setting and she was a wonderful person.

Some student wrote: "So if you're a redneck, don't take this class."
Well, I LOVE--yeah, that's right, L-O-V-E Dr. Ardrey--and I am a REDNECK!
That's right, my friends, I am a redneck, and not just any redneck but MR. #1 Freakin' Redneck in America. I got credentials, y'all. You know how I'm gonna piss off a liberal? I'm gonna buy a gun! No, better, I'm gonna marry my sister! Even better: I'm gonna marry my mom! Hell, I'm gonna both my sister AND my mom! If that don't count as a redneck, I don't know what does? Geez, what do I have to do? Get my cousin pregnant!
Anyway, the point is that Dr. Ardrey is a FINE Teacher! And again, I'm MR. REDNECK! And I'm gonna marry your mom!

In response to a positive evaluation of Dr. Ardrey...
I quote:
"I can't believe all of the bad ratings that Dr. A got. I find it funny that the only people who think she is biased towards white men are white men- how does it feel guys? My note of wisdom is if you can't take the heat then stay out of the kitchen. It seems that open mindedness is not always welcomed at Western. So if you're a redneck, don't take this class."
Well, no wonder you gave her positive feedback... you're like a little freak-fest clone of Dr. Ardrey. Your feedback was littered with rascism and gender-favoring.
How does what feel? I don't remember ever treating anybody any differently and just because women USED to be suppressed does not give a professor, who should be professional, the golden pass to trash men because she has deep psychological personal issues. I bet you were her little rascist pet, lapping up every word she said to make your grade. You're pathetic, and you don't know anything about open-mindedness.

I think Dr. Ardrey spends a lot of time on her notes and then just wants you to spit whatever she said back to her on paper. She would be a good teacher if she practiced what she preached. She is always talking about equality and ensuring that EVERYONE is treated fairly. You will find this is true if you are Black, a Female, or a combination of the two. She is very sexist and can sometimes be racist. Even though she is continually talking about making sure that everyone is equal she will do ANYTHING she can to hold others back while pushing her "FAVORITES" ahead and ensuring that the female and black students have EVERY opportunity to pass with a good grade. I am just glad she teaches POINTLESS classes so I don't have to take another thing from her. Those of you who are NOT so lucky should ATTEMPT to avoid it if at all possible if not FIND her favorite and tie yourself to them whenever possible!! GOOD LUCK!!

I don't mind putting in work for a class, but for a 200 level gen ed course, the work for this course was out of control. The tests are uber specific--near impossible. It's not worth the work.

I love this teacher! I am genuiely interested throughout the class period and i have learned so much through this course. The flip side...it's hard. she requires a lot of work, a lot of writing on her test and quizzes(they're all the same really) But if you go to class and participate she will recognize this. She grades on improvement and what you have learned. If you go to class and listen you cannot help but learn a great deal. She might be bias like i've heard she was, but i didn't really notice and i'm white (but not male) and even if she is, i by no means think this would effecet her grading. TAKE THIS CLASS, IT IS WORTH IT AND EYE OPENING

This is the capstone course for political science. If you've worked hard in all your PS classes, you'll be fine. If you've slacked, then you'll have to brush up a bit. Bottom line: you have to pass five objective tests and one essay to pass the course. It's that simple. Plus, Dr. Ardrey is a trip and will help you all along the way. So, if you're a PS major, take Ardrey for Senior Seminar. You won't regret it.

My note of wisdom is if you can't take the heat then stay out of the kitchen. This class was by no means imposiible, she just expected everyone to work. This has been my favorite class so far. It's different than other classes at Western. She lets her personal opinion be known but also lets everyone else share their different views. It seems that open mindedness is not always welcomed at Western. So if you're a redneck, don't take this class.

Word of warning if your White or Male do not take her classes. She's gotten better in the last couple of years but take it from a PS major, she's the biggest hyprocrite ever. SHe does not practice the equality she preaches. Now if you love to debate and or argue she's great, but be prepared to always be the bad guy. The class is ok you don't really learn anything and the test are absurdly hard. You pretty much memorize charts and tables. No practical knowledge just spitting out facts not a good prep class for the real world. I suggest this class only for resume purposes. I like her on a personal level but as a prefoessor and dept head she frankly disappoints me.

Great class! The tests are VERY hard and required a lot of studying, but she is SO helpful and the class is very discussion and application interested. It isn't just Dr. A giving out notes. I learned SO much and even though we agree on nothing politically she was very helpful and one of the best professors I've ever had. JUST GO TO CLASS! If you make an effort (try hard, go to class, talk in class), she will meet you half way usually. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

This, as the title indicates, is one of the final courses in the Political Science major. Though it has been tweaked over the last few years it still remains frustrating. No one in the department will tell you, but please keep all of your notes and books that relate to your Political Science major. The fact that no one informed me that I should do this really pi - sed me off. I had to purchase my books a second time. So, I am saving you some money and trouble. Keep your books and notes! Each exam is between 35 and 50 questions except for Mr. Seitz's. He gives two essays, if I recall correctly. You must obtain 70% on all five exams: Government, International Relations, Comparative Politics, Political Theory, and Research Methods. You get three tries on each exam. Which makes the whole course a joke. Plus, I repeat plus, 75% participation points must be obtained. Don't worry about the participation points. You simply need to show be there for every class (with book) and answer a couple of questions or ask a couple. But keep in mind you can't make up the participation points. If on the last day you don't have the 75% you are pretty much screwed. Dr. Ardrey doesn't care if you were planning on graduating or not. Good luck!

Dr. Ardrey is one of the most articulate and passionate teachers I have ever had the good look of taking for any class. She knows her stuff, and therefore expects you to come into her class knowing yours. She sets very high standards, gives students the tools to meet those standards, and in no way hides her disappointment if those standards are not met. I have never learned as much in one class as I have in hers. This class really gives a great perspective on the role of women in politics, one that the men of the class appreciated, if not always agreed with. Expect spirited discussion and demanding tests from this class. I don't like to catagorize the notes as overkill, but I could not say they were moderate either. I would recommend any of Dr. Ardrey's classes.

Take any of Dr. A's classes and she makes you think. She makes you angry;she makes you care. Disagreements and discussion on sensitive issues such as race relations, gender, religion, free speech and other social issues are encouraged. I loved this class. We had journalists and government majors in class and the debates we had were engaging. It was hard sometime but she makes you think. But isn't that what learning is all about. I'd take another class in a heart beat. She makes learing exciting!

Ardrey's tests are not that difficult if not for the fact that she grades EXTREMELY harshly on short answers and
essays. You can write a perfect short answer and get maybe 7/10 credit. Further, though she claimed no particular attendance policy, she took attendance every day.
My attendance sucked, I think that she counted it against me in determining my grade. I got a "C", the only of my college career. Also, be prepared for a daily lesson in race relations, whether the course calls for it or not. This woman is very race conscious, which is fine, but this fixation is to the detriment of her work at this institution. You'll be sick of her after about two weeks.
Take any of her classes at your own risk and be aware of her agendas.
