I hate history, but I will work my butt off for an A in any class. My friend got lower grades than I did (just by a few points) on the 2 exams during the semester, and we both got full credit on the extra credit, and I studied for a week for the final. He studies the morning of....and he got an A, I got a B........I did the math everyway I could, and I still could see no way that I got the B. It was already summer by the time I got my grade-too late and I was too busy to come and talk to her about it. DONT TAKE HER she said my final average for the class was an 89.33. It will be worth your while to TAKE SOMEONE ELSE

I did not like this class at all! I am not a history person so I was happy to get a C. You have to work really hard for this class. Mrs. Formes doesnt really project her voice, so if you take this class sit towards the front near her. To get the material, you need to read the section before class, take detailed notes in class and then study a little bit each night. I did all that and still got a C. You only have three tests. Each of which are essay and identification questions. She's pretty picky so you really need to know the material. I dont think I would recommend this class to anyone who has trouble remember names and dates!

You cover weird topics and small tidbits the most. The essay tests are hard because they are really specific. You either know the topics and terms or not. Listen in class because that is where she takes the terms for the test. It is an extremely hard class to go to, because she is a bit monotone, but she really loves the topics. Speak up in class. You may not think it will help but she comments on it on your test, and I think it helps your grade.

Show up, take good notes, study and you'll do fine. You don't need to read all the assigned reading, but the book helps when it comes time to study for the tests. The tests are all essay, but it's not as horrific as it sounds, if you study. Dr. Formes is alittle "Ben Stein" in her delivery, but her lectures are through and well sturctured and she does use powerpoint. Overall it's not a bad class to take.

Good lord. The lectures were non-stop 50 mins and they were boring. My notebook was filled w/endless pages of useless notes. There were only 3 grades in there that were 100 pt. essay tests. The 3rd test is considered as the final and treated like the other two. She finally cracked and we got a chance at some extra credit which was VERY helpful. If you decide/have to take this class, show up and take the notes no matter how mind numbing they may be. I don't know if it was my ability to BS, but I don't think she grades too hard if you do a little reading and know your notes. Good luck if you get Formes for Western Civ. on your schedule....you'll need it

She was unbearable. The class was very boring and dry. The test are overkill, because you're only right if she agrees with your answer, which is hard accomplish with an essay test. You are allowed 6 absences w/o penalty. I would not suggest her if you don't plan to work extremely hard.

Dr. Formes may seem very difficult at first, but give it a couple weeks and you won't feel so overwhelmed. She is a very good teacher, and really knows history. If you go to class, take good notes, go to PASS sessions, and study for the three tests, you will be fine. I think she is a great teacher, even though class is a little boring.

If you miss a single day of this class your in trouble. She's really picky about absenses and covers alot of useless information not on the test. She lectures nonstop all class pierod and most of it is not on the test, however the tests are usually not the things she really stresses durring lecture. This class definatly requires studing, her tests are all lots of essay and she grades REALLY hard.

This is one of my hardest classes. She doesn't require a lot of notes, however if you want to earn a good grade on the tests you need to write down more than just what is on her powerpoints. The PASS sessions are VERY helpful and they really prepare you for the test. Although there is not much work, you should be prepared to start studying for the tests at least a week ahead--and you have to study EVERYTHING because it is hard to predict exactly who and what is going to be on the test. She gave us a few extra credit chances, but I've heard that she doen't do that often.

I found Dr. Formes very compassionate about students learning, getting their questions answered, and receiving help if they need it. The PASS sessions are great, even if you think you don't need them, they give you a very good idea about what Dr. Formes is looking for on tests. One book is largely used for the essay tests, the other for background reading. There are 3 tests, and the final is partially cumulative. Students may feel overwhelmed at first, but you learn a lot and don't have to work extremely hard to get a high grade. She is by far, one of the best history professors at WKU.

In the beginning I was scared to death of this course taking it as a freshman. But I learned that as long as you take notes, which are on power points, and at least half way pay attention you will do fine. If you are good at essay test this class will be really easy. If not, then this will be a very hard class. Your grade comes from 3 complete essay tests and one 3 page paper.

Mrs. Formes will scare you on the first day of class by saying that the majority of the students will either drop or fail her class, but don't let her scare you. She is very prim and proper and can be uninteresting. You basically take notes the entire class period. There are three tests and a take home essay. On each test she will list 8 I.D. terms such as names of improtant people and you will have to write a paragraph on 5. She will then list 2 other, more broad things, which you will have to write about 2-4 pages. You will do better on the test then you expect as long as you keep up with all of the readings, especially in the Lualdi book. As long as you pay attention in class, take good notes consistening of more then what is on the overhead, and attend class everyday, you should do fine. The class is challenging, yet possible. GOOD LUCK!

Dr. Formes is great! She is really well-prepared and educated about what she teaches, which is unusual. There is usually a PASS session offered, and if you're having problems, then you can go and talk to her, and she'll help you soo much! Read the sample tests she offers, go to class, and read the documents and you'll be fine.

Dr. Formes is a great person, the class however is semi-boring. It is also cross referenced as a womens studies class, which leads to many of the readings and discussions being about gender, which if you are not interested in can suck. Overall not too hard of a class, but think before you take it.

3 tests for entire semester, including the final (not cumulative.) Most classes are strictly lecture, but she occasionally has discussion classes. If you can figure out when the discussion days are, those are the days you need to show up because that's when she takes attendance. Writing skills important on final. HINT: if assigned readings are too much, only read from Lualdi book and memorize notes.

Go to class on Fridays and you get your points for discussion. The class is boring, but if you study your notes and really memorize them, then you will past the test with ease.

She is a teacher that does nothing but lecture. There is rarely deviation from this. If you miss out on a day of notes you are in trouble come test time. The test are not impossible but do require studying. I do not recommend her for anyone who doesn't like to take notes every class for the entire hour.
