Additional Comments |
Ok...here's the low down on Njoku and this course. The man has made up everything he's teaching. The "keywords" that so much emphasis is put on seem to all be words that he just thought sounded appropriate for what he's talking about. He changes his ideas on what he wants on the papers every week. By the end of the semester the syllabus was no longer accurate for what he was expecting from us (although he constantly attempted to refer us to it). There are 8 African American musical genres that are studied, and you gotta write a 3-page paper for each of them. The tests, of which there are 2, are completely essay. I believe on the final I hand wrote about 16 pages, and most were front and back. Njoku's teaching style is confusing, repetitive, and aggravating. If you enjoy redoing work because the professor changed his mind from the time he assigned it to the time you turn it in, and if you enjoy rehashing the same crap that Njoku vomits up in class for your weekly papers instead of offering good substantial original ideas...then go ahead and take this class. Frankly, I thought the class was awful. The only halfway enjoyable part of it was listening to the music examples, but the poor excuse for discussion that followed made me want to jump off PFT. Anyways, if you want to actually learn something here at Western Kentucky, don't take this class, and don't take Njoku.
