I haven't actually taken one of Dr. Green's classes, but I did have her as an advisor once. I was not happy at all. I am a non-traditional student taking online classes because I have to work full-time. I am currently working on a B.A. in Professional Writing, and asked Dr. Green if she would let me in one of her literature classes (the class was already full). She told me she did not let students in after a class was full and that I would need to wait and check Topnet for a drop. I did just that; however, I noticed a few weeks before classes started that she had let 3 additional people in the class I needed. Seems to me like she is not fair in the way she treats all students. I know this may not have anything to do with her teaching style, but it was enough to make me not want to take any classes from her.

Dr. Green is a great professor and made the class enjoyable. We had to read several essays from the textbook, and the class was mostly discussion-based, which I liked. There were a few short essays interspersed, along with three lengthier essays, but nothing too demanding. I thought she graded easily. Overall, we had some interesting topics for discussion and she integrated a few films into the class as well (Persepolis and Helvetica). I would definitely take Dr. Green again or recommend her to anyone wanting to take a pain-free English class.

A lot of people in my class did not like Dr. Green at all, and I know she has gotten other bad evaluations, but I really enjoyed her. The classes were mosly discussions, but I liked that because they were less boring than lecture classes and it makes you actually think for yourself, which is more helpful when you are required to do that in the future. She did provide a lot of frustrating criticism on papers, but it ended up being helpful to me when I asked her what she meant exactly. I know some people recieved bad grades on papers and she could be harsh if they turned in a bad paper, but she gave us the opportunity to rewrite any or all papers, so there was really no excuse. She just expects a lot from her students, being a Columbian grad herself, but if you spend some time in her office she is really helpful. I even missed a week when my grandpa was in the hospital and she let me turn in the research paper late. Be prepared to write and come up with intelligent ideas. The final was great though because she only asked us to write a 2 page essay about why we chose to be an English major. One more thing, if you tend to miss a lot of classes, I wouldn't take Dr. Green because she will give a failing grade if you miss more than 6 unexcused

Her technique in teaching English is horrible. She butchers your papers and her grading is horrible. One time she wrote on one of my papers how I should rephrase something and when I did exactly what she said she said it was wrong and counted off for it. She doesn't know how to explain what she wants to her students. She leaves you out to drown.

This class was pretty easy. Just show up and add to the discussions. She is sort of airheady and out of it. She never talked more than 15 minutes all semester. Each person is responsible for one day to lead class discussions. We never had a test and we had to write 3 papers. Just write as much as you can and choose broad topics for your paper.

I took this course as a freshman and it wasn't bad at all. We only wrote 4 papers and had to do 1 presentation. We didn't even take a final. Class discussion can be boring and you do have to read the assignments because there is usually a quiz at the beginning of every class, but it really is a piece of cake other than that. We got out early quite a few times, and we always had workshops to edit our papers. I definitley recommend taking Dr. Green!!

Katherine Green was my advisor; I have never taken a class with her. However, I wanted to chime in and post an eval.
Don't take Katherine Green as a teacher if you can help it. Maybe you wouldn't mind her as your advisor, but I certainly did. If she is yours (and if you're an undergraduate English major, she probably is), request a change of advisor. join the honors program. Do something that will get a better, more helpful advisor. It's not worth it to waste time with her no matter how nice she may seem.
I initially liked Dr Green b/c she reminded me of my grandmother, but obviously, in matters of college, that's not necessarily a good thing. Honestly, I think my grandmother would do a better job.
Green doesn't know much and refuses to waste her time expanding her knowledge concerning anything her students may need to know. She was actually very detrimental to my completion of my degree program.
If she's your advisor, you need an overkill quantity of notes b/c you'll not get any help from her. You'll have to help yourself, and it'd be best if you knew exactly where you stand before you go and see her. Do your own research as much as you are able and save only the questions you can't answer yourself for her. Not that she'll be able to answer them either.
p.s. ENG 308, Creative Nonfiction, is a class that does not exist, even though it is on her rotating schedule of classes.

Why is she the undergraduate advisor? She can't teach and she certainly can't advise. What must one do to get this woman fired (atleast from her advising position)?

She's not horrible, but she's not great either. If you aren't a strong writer, then I suggest you take someone else. You can't get easily discouraged and you have to be confident about your work, otherwise you will want to shoot yourself. She claims to be available to talk to, but she refuses to provide any guidance whatsoever with your assignments. She explains things as clear as mud...so you never know what is expected of you. I busted my butt and even had two conferences with her to try and make her see how dedicated I was to my grade, and she still gave me a B. I was borderline A/B and only missed one day of class because my grandad was extremely sick. But apparently that didn't matter to her. If you can take someone else, do so - if not, just prepare yourself for a tiring semester.

Avoid taking her class! Mrs. Green is a woman who seems as though she is nice, but when you approach her with a problem she becomes rude and is overall rather unhelpful. The enitre class is made up of a few quizzes, three essays, one research paper, and a portfolio of the three revised essays.
If you miss more than five days of class you will fail, guaranteed. These five days include unexcused and excused absences. Several of my classmates, myself included, have had doctors appointments that she would not excuse us for. If you miss a quiz (even with if you have a legitimate excuse: i.e. doctor's appointment) you will receive a zero.

Dr. Green is one of the nicest ladies but this class is really difficult. The material is hard to understand! It doesn't help that the material is also extremely boring. Dr. Green doesn't really help to make it interesting either. It was really hard to sit through the classes. The tests are hard, the quizzes (which are really frequent) are difficult and I would just really request someone else!

She does group work every class, sound good? No, it is very nerve racking. I have nothing good to say about this professor.

I had a fairly easy time through this course, yet I must stress that Dr. Green is not the prefered professor for this course. Unlike most of the above reviewers, I am actually quite fond of British literature and I personally found Green to be a tad boring and vague when it came to discussing the pieces read. I've never met a woman that could make things like Paradise Lost so dreadfully, mind-numbingly boring. What I'm trying to say is even if you have an interest in the material, this course will be a rough ride for you because of its glacial pace.
For those that do take it, expect two (incredibly short) papers and two exams that primarily consist of essay questions. Easy stuff. Quizes are fairly regular and consist of one essay question that asks you to analyze the work. Once again, easy.

If you are taking this class I would advise you to watch out for her comparitive grading on your midterm and final. For those of you that dont know what this is basically she goes through and grades your test based on what she thinks. She then looks at what everyone in the class said for the same question and will mark you down. In some cases from a B to a D.The class was pretty boring but thats british lit for you. If you have to take this course please beware

This was one of the worst classes I ever took. It's not entirely the fault of the teacher (I stress not entirely). It's also that British literature is just wholly uninteresting and dull. I had a fairly easy time getting through short stories and epics, but when we got to poetry, it was over. Try reading medieval poetry without going to sleep (especially at 9 in the morning) and you my friend deserve the Nobel Prize. Professor Green did not make the subjects interesting in the least and mostly relied on having other students explain the subjects in a group, which is always a bad idea. She's supposed to teach us, not other students who don't know anything about the subject. She tried to make the class interesting by letting us watch Monty Python and the Holy Grail as an example of an Authorian legend, but treats like that were very few and fare in between (if not nearly non-existent). She's a nice person, don't get me wrong, but a piss-poor teacher. Oh, and she's a feminist - trust me, this will come up. She mentions it 200 times in the syllabus alone, so tread carefully with the sexist jokes fellas. To sum up: don't bother with this class, unless you enjoy pain and absolute boredom.

This class is pretty interesting overall. The class basically consists of reading some articles and discussing them in class everyday. There are three papers and a couple of essay quizzes. Dr. Green doesn't really teach the class...she's more like a discussion mentor. The final is a paper on your feelings about feminism. It is an easy course as long as you show up and discuss.

There are no tests in this class, as in any Junior English class. There were readings for most days and every day you get into a circle or small groups, or both, and discuss the reading. That got pretty boring, especially since no one really had anything to say and Dr. Green was really struggling to get people to talk, other than one or two people, and her of course. There are four papers in this class, including a research paper. I didn't think they were too hard, and I got an A on all of them, but others in the class found them difficult. There were writing workshops for each paper, and in the case of the research paper, numerous workshops. The final was a portfolio of the three short essays that we wrote (3 to 4 pages each). Dr. Green is always available and willing to help you, provided you come with questions, and aren't just expecting her to tell you what to do. It seems that at times she has problems communicating with her students and that can be quite awkward. But, this class was pretty easy for me, and I actually learned a lot about current issues. I recommend this class.

Dr. Green is an extremely difficult professor. She grades very very hard and the majority of my class never received an A on one of her papers. There are no tests, just papers, and she will rip your paper to shreds when she grades it. I have always received As in English classes until I took her class.

There are no tests or finals or even quizzes in this class. All you do is discuss current issues and write papers. There are 4 papers to do along with journals. She grades hard, but fair, and usually lets you out of class early.
