Joanna is a real nice lady, all we really did was speeches. We had about 2 or 3 tests they were pretty easy. She gives you study guides of what is exactly going to be on the test. But overall its a fun class and helps you develop good skills in speaking. I highly recommend her!!!!!!!

She is a retiered lady, and has had some bad luck...but she dosen't have to take it out on us! She makes you feel low, and stupid. She will call on you and tell you what she thinks about what you did with no pitty what-so-ever. She is mean most of the time, but you can't help but feel sorry for her. She did get nicer as the semester ended (thank God).

Mrs Gabbard is by far the worst teatcher I have ever had. She doesn't know how to work the power point at all but still insists on using it to teach class, and over half the time she has no clue as to what is going on. She changes due dates constantly and gets extremly mad at you when she confuses you. I got and A on all of my speeches and most of my tests and still got a C in the class, I think she lost some of my grades or something. I would not recomend this teacher to anyone, she needs to retire QUICK!

This class was extremely frustrating and much more difficult than it should have been. Mrs. Gabbard claims to be a Communinations teacher, but can not communicate with her students. There is no need to take notes, all you have to do is look in the textbook and memorize the headings, b/c that's all that's on the tests. She also can't focus on details, she'll ask you to repeat parts of your speech, b/c she didn't hear what she wanted, even though it was there.
The material is very easy, but she makes it much more difficult. Due dates and material change on a daily basis. There are surely better Public Speaking teachers at Western than her. Take one of them!

This woman needs to retire. She gets very frustrated if you start talking about elderly people (especially about driving.) She can be very annoying but its a pretty easy class. I advise you to look around before you choose this teacher.

Unfortunately, I would not recommend this professor. She means well, but fails to teach you anything you dont already know. Actually, we ended up teaching her how to use the computer and PowerPoint. The tests were very easy though because she gives you a study guide. She was somewhat picky about speechgiving so make sure you do it her way.

Don't worry about Taking notes, the real key to get through this class is to show up, laugh at how Mrs. Gabbard can not work the power point or slide show, and then leave becoming no better of a person.
Seriously though, she makes really good study guides, and MOST of the times her tests reflect the material well.
She holds grudges however, and gets her favorites of the class, but what teacher doesn't on some level. If you want to continue further in the Comm. department, then don't take her. If you need an easy A, then take Gabbard and NEVER take her due dates seriously, she'll change them 3 times before anythings due.

Considering she is a communications teacher, she has difficulty communicating with her students. She often "forgets" what she tells us, or just changes it. She seems to have trouble paying attention to details in her students speeches and has to ask them to repeat things. She has no idea how to use power point and just goes over the main points which are highlighted in the book. The class is easy, but she is very frustrating.

She, as a comm teach, can't use the power point at all (skips over main points), she likes to change her mind often about what she has already said and about her directions. She has no clarity or organiztion to her class. The tests are moderately easy if you like to memorize long lists. Don't ask her a question or even try to ask for understanding she doesn't care, period. You know, I don't think I ever saw her smile...
