John Darnell at first seems like the class is going to be a joke, he has his own since of humor, but he is a nice guy. the class is an easy A if u have the ability to memorize before the test and easily forget afterwords.

Mr. Darnell was a very nice guy and wanted everyone to do well in the class. However, you'll pass out trying to stay awake in class. For his Tuesday and Thursday Classes, he split them up in to lecture and lab. Tuesdays were lectures where he took up the entire hour and twenty minutes making the most simply computer concepts confusing. You could take the online quizzes you complete in lab on your computer at home if you wanted. That's why it was rather useless to go to class on Thursdays. I went to class every thursday, and the quizzes took ten minutes each or less. His tests are somewhat confusing, and half the time you will be unsure of what he is asking.

I thought that Mr. Darnell was a very friendly man, but an extremely boring professor. He honestly cares for all of his students and really wants everyone to do well. I took this course on Tues/Thurs and on Tuesday, he just lectures and writes notes on the blackboard. He doesn't use any eye contact and the Tuesday class tended to get boring. On Thursdays, you just take quizzes and I was always done in about fifteen to twenty minutes. John is just an average teacher, but he is very friendly.

Darnell assumes that you already know how to do everything he is testing you on.
The labs are pointless and frustrating.
He is frustrating. He is very sarcastic and gender biased.
He talks way to much about himself.
You are in the class the entire time on mondays listening to him babble about himself.
I would never take him again.

I didn't really enjoy this class, but someone who would like to learn or knows how to program a computer, this class would be great! I like Darnell for CS 145, but this class was hard for me.

Mr. Darnell is one of the easiest teachers I ever had. If you tune him out, you'll be fine. He tends to tell stories in the middle of teaching his lessons, he's weird! Me and a group of my friends basically worked with each other the entire time and we all made A's and B's. Most of his assignments are easy because he'll help you step by step. The hardest part for me was writing that stupid four page paper about Computers and Your Major.

Mr. John he is very easy, there is no homework, except one writing that you have to do. you don't have to go to class, he will sent you notes for you in email. there's only 3 test. I absolutely recommend him to everyone if you an A and don't need to do anything.

Definitely the teacher to take. You need to study for the tests because they are mostly fill in the blank, but other than that this is a really great teacher and overall a pretty easy class.

This is by far the easiest class I have ever taken in my life. He is very nice and understandable. He doesn't want to stress anyone out, so if you want the test moved back or a paper moved back, he could care less. And if you want a class that you never have to go to this is it. He emails the notes to you and just goes over them in class. We never have a full class time. I always get out an hour early! I HIGHLY recommend this class if you need it!

John Darnell is one of the nicest professors I have ever taken. He definetely cares about his students and wants them to do well. You go to the computer lab one day of the week and then the other day you go to lecture. He always let us out early. He would print out the notes for you and every once in a while you have to fill in a blank. We had 2 exams plus the final. Make sure you study because most of the exam questions are fill in the blank. The final was multiple choice. We also had a paper to write about how computers will affect our majors. Also, we didn't use our book except for the first day in the computer lab because you have to have a code off a folder that comes with the book so you would be able to take your computer lab tests online. I would definetly take him again.

Mr. Darnell was a great professor. He was always willing to help, if you needed it. He gave you the notes before you would go over them in class. As long as you came to class and wrote in what he said, you would do just fine. He does require a paper over your major and computers but it is your opinon. Overall, I would recommend Mr. Darnell and I would take another class of his if at all possible.

John Darnell is a cool guy. He talks and types slow though- sometimes you just want to put him on fast forward. BUT he gives you a handout with the notes ALREADY on there, and you just occasionally have to fill in a word here or there. The only time we used the book all semester was to register for the online part, which is a quiz a week. However, on quiz days, you dont even have to go to class, you can just take the quiz on your own computer. You can take the quizzes (EASY!!) as many times as you want until you make a 100. The tests are usually pretty easy and he always has silly reasons to add points onto everyones grade. :-) There is a paper you have to write, but I got a 100 on that too. I def. recommend Mr. Darnell- when the class gets boring you can talk to your classmates....I'm not sure he really realizes its happening. :-)

Mr. Darnell is one of the nicest professors I've had at WKU. He is very understanding if you have any problems and will do anything to help you. He usually didn't keep us longer than like 30 minutes per session, so that was nice. His first test totally surprised me. It was all fill-in-the-blank and I didn't study nearly enough! So, be sure and memorize those study guides he gives you at the beginning of each section. All in all, easy class, very nice man. :o)

mr darnell is layed back and realitively easy. he gives you all the notes you are hardly ever in the class longer than 30 minutes. tests are easy if you look over the notes any at all. i would suggest taking him if you need a computer class.

This is a very easy class. You go to the computer lab once a week and take a quiz over some powerpoint/word in about 10 minutes and your out. The other day you are in class and he lectures but he gives you a handout and you just fill in a few blanks. Test are fairly easy with a midterm and final. Over all a great class and John is one of the nicest teachers I've ever had. Hes a great guy.

This class is the easiest class I've ever taken in my life. All you do is go to the computer lab, do some little tests over microsoft word, or powerpoint, and they ask easy questions, and you're out in like 10 minutes, plus he gives you the answers. Then for lecture, he copies the notes for you, and the tests are really easy, if you can memorize some of the stuff.

This class is SUPER EASY!! Most of the things you learn are common sense and John (he likes you to call him by his first name) is funny but sometimes I'm not sure if he knows what he is talking about. And my advice is dont buy the book because I NEVER once used it for anything. Also, John types out the notes for you so that you dont have to take any!

If you want added stress, take this class. Mr. Darnell is sarcastic and makes assignments so much more difficult than he means them to be. He does not know what he is talking about, he is very lost and confused! He teaching style is condescending and basically downgrading to his students. Surely someday WKU will take students evaluations seriously and reevaluate the CS department. I withdrew from this course after an honest attempt for one month, registered with another prof and recieved an A and alot of useful knowledge. Additional Comments
Mr. Darnell is the worst teacher I have ever had in my college career. I don't recommend that anyone sign up for her class, if you can help it. He is rude, and has no concept of how to teach in a way that students can understand. I left his class everyday more confused than I was when I got there.

John Darnell couldn't teach if he wanted to. His test are construced very poorly. He shows you how to add and subtract in class and then on the test he expects you to use calculus and trig indentities. The homework he assigns is nothing like the tests. He doesn't curve and he just a real *******!!!!!
