Claire Aubrey is new to teaching. Although the course could be interesting, she has no idea how to conduct a class. Her tests are extremely difficult; regardless of how hard you study. Claire is hateful and conceited. She offers no help to students and is by far the worst professor I've ever had. Avoid her at all costs.

This course is amazingly interesting and accessible to everyone. I'm very glad I took it. As for Professor Aubrey, I went back and forth between loving her and hating her. Aubrey really feels passionately about the topics and Folk Studies in general. She wants to get people to think and look at their views and why they have those views. It is clear that she is knowledgeable also. The readings are well selected and effective. Class discussions and activities were slightly lacking, equally due to students and professor. Professor Aubrey has a hard time understanding the student's point of view. When students don't understand what she is saying, she can be a bit abrasive. She sometimes can't see past her perspective. This shows in the construction of her tests and quizzes. I've decided that Aubrey has a lot of potential, but still has her share of kinks to work out. At times I got annoyed, but in the end, I feel that she was moderately effective. Those who want to learn, who want to apply themselves will get by fine. Those that want to merely get by or have to struggle might want to think a while before taking the course with Professor Aubrey. Give her a few semesters and she'll improve.

This class would have definitely been a whole lot better had someone else been teaching it. Ms. Aubrey was very partial to herself and her opinions. Every word that came out of her mouth was a "fact". Her quizzes were very unfair. She asks for very specific information that you won't know unless you are her. And the class discussions/activities are a joke. She discourages fun in every way whether it be through her psychotic outbursts or just her unpleasant facade. I do not recommend this teacher.

The course content is very interesting so I would suggest taking this class, just with a different professor. This was her first semester teaching but her improvment is mostly needed in her anger management and overall personality. In the beginning she was fine but as the semester progressed she seemed to lose her mind. Her quizzes and tests are not well constructed at all. Even if you've read the material that doesn't guarantee you know the answers to the questions. The last few weeks she seemed to hold an unnecessary grudge against the whole class. Maybe she'll improve as she gets more experience but I'm not confident that will happen.
