I got a C in the class, but I am an extreme slacker who didn't attend so frequently the first half of the semester. Serafini is a wonderful history teacher with a natural ability to maintain your attention. He'll give you "fun lectures," as he put it, from time to time, and you'll learn about sheep and goat intestines being the first contraceptives. He definitely knows the subject, but also relates easily to the students. He does not drone. Be prepped for him to call you out if you come in looking ridiculous, shave your head for an organization, et cetera. There's never a lack of humility, and any student in the class will note that he makes a strong effort to explain history as something that happened to other people, not just "garb from a long time ago." I hate history, and the class was interesting. (Okay, I don't HATE it, but I have little ability to retain information.) It is mandatory that you take a Western Civ class, so get it with this man. I'll forwarn you, though, his classes seem to fill quickly so don't slack on getting in. The class will consists of one book analysis, but he's pretty flexible on the titles, understanding that "The History of Victorian England" may not thrill us all. The quizzes, I thought, were the hardest. He definitely prepares your for the tests, and they're not killers if you'll just study a little bit. Your notes will prove to be the most useful tool in the class. The final? It was the scariest part of the class. Most of the class got an A or B. Take Serafini!
