This class is not the easiest, just to warn others. But if you come to class and take good notes as well as study for tests, you will be fine. Everything that is on the test, he tells you before hand and gives you study guides. All lectures are mainly on powerpoint. He tries to include fun facts and things of that type to make the class more fun. He does offer extra credit, and they are easy. If you take the bi-term you have to give a speech but if you take the full sememster, you have to write 2 reaction papers. He uses alot of the text from the text book as essay question/question material so make sure you read the book before the test day.

This could be a really interesting class. But Dizgun turns this into his personal slide show. He has all these pictures from when he went to South America and half of the pictures in the powerpoints are from his trips there. He also goes off on tangents all the time that have absolutely nothing to do with anything that he grades you over. The amount of work that he wants from the students is more like the work for a junior or senior level class. He isn't a good teacher and can't keep students interest for longer than five minutes. He is a really bad teacher and I would not take him unless you have to. His class is ridiculous and horrible and I think he is one of the worst teachers I've ever had.

Prof. Dizgun is the best teacher I have taken here at Western. He made this class a lot of fun!! I took it as a bi-term and it was taught as a PS,HIST,SP, or GEOG class depending on which one you signed up for. Just as with any onther bi-term this is a pretty intense course.
It is important that you come to class every day due to the amount of notes taken every day. A lot of students didn't do very well in the class but that is not the teacher's fault. He gives out a review before every test that tells you exactly what to study and focus on. The test consists of 3 parts. The first part is 15 map terms. He tells you what he wants you to know from the map and if you can easily memorize maps then this is the easiest part of the test. The second part consists of short answer type questions. He usually gives you 14 to choose from and you have to answer 10, some of those come from the assigned readings he tells you to read, which is like 8 sections of 2 pages each. It really isn't that bad. Then the final section is 2 one page essay's. He puts 5 or 6 on the test and you can choose which two you want to write about. It is important that you always always write an entire page even if you have no clue start making things up becuase if you put effort forth and have no idea what your talking about he will give you sympathy points. And if you don't know all of the short answer to the same because he will always try to give you points anywhere he can on the test.
This class is a breeze if you put forth a little effort. Prof. Dizgun is a very nice teacher and he loves to teach this class. I recommend him to everyone!! :)

At first, I was very intimitated by Professor Dizgun; however, once I got over that feeling I realized that I remembered everything that he said in class and applied it to my test. His lectures are kind of like a story and that, in my opinion, made it easier to study for the tests. I would highly recommend this course. It's challenging but he makes the class fun.

This professor asks a lot from his students, but he is just trying to get you to understand the material and have an opinion about it, rather than just memorize information. If you're looking for an easy A, don't take him. But if you want a smart professor who knows his stuff and encourages you to look outside of the box, then take Dizgun.

Great teacher, very helpful and clear. Tests can be a pain due to the page long essays. He will be a fair grader if you explain yourself. Wants your opinion. Not an easy A. Maybe an easy C if your smart. Takes 6 random attendance days. But in order to pass with a decent grade you need to go to class.

I personally found this class to be hard b/c I'm not good at history and all that goes with it. I'm sure if I tried harder I would have done better but its just not a subject that I'm thrilled about. Also all of his exams/quizes have a few essay questions on them, and I'm horrible at essay questions. And he words them so you can't just B.S. your way through them, he reads them and is looking for specific points. Overall i gave him a good rating b/c he was a fun teacher, and he was pretty funny too. His grading was fair, I just did poorly b/c I have little interest in the subject.

Dr. Dizgun is a wonderful prof! Be sure to keep up on the readings (which come from multiple books). His exams were made up of all essays-- so be sure you really grasp the concepts and historical aspects of the class! Overall, a great class which really opened my eyes to the rich history of Mexico.

Prof. Dizgun is an AWESOME teacher. He cares about his students very much and is very willing to help. Very accessible professor. He is also very passionate about his subject and it shows in his teaching. Dizgun can be a little tough in terms of grading, but he puts a ton of comments on your exams and papers and does not just assign an arbitrary grade w/no explanation. 3 Exams, 1 Research Project, 2 Film Reviews, plus he assigns some good books/readings.

Dr. Dizgun is a very nice man and does a great job teaching. However, I made a C in the class due to the heavy amount of information required on all essay tests. I'm usually not one to mind essay tests, but the grading was a little harsh. Many students failed the class due to the crucial critiqueing of the answers. I would NOT RECOMMEND this course to ANYONE

Prof. Dizgun is a good professor. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about Latin American history. His lectures are easy to follow because he does a very good job conveying his point. His tests are long but passable as long as you take notes or do the readings. This is one of the few classes that I have had to take that I feel like I actually learned something interesting. I recommend taking Prof. Dizgun!

Dizgun is a really good teacher. You will take a lot of notes in his class but all of your test except your final are take home essays. He grades pretty strict on these but if you take good notes then you will do fine. I would recommend taking him for western civ.

This class was a great class for learning new information! The professor did a great job transferring his knowledge onto us. The exams are essay and I.Ds, but they're take home. The final consisted of a take home essay, IDs, multiple choice, a map, and a timeline. It wasn't a difficult class if you paid attention and took good notes.

This class is different than a lot of history courses. Instead of lecture, two tests, and a paper, you have discussions, 5 or 6 short reaction papers, slide shows and videos, etc., etc. Plus, Dr. Dizgun is a cool cat. I'd recommend this course to anyone, history major or not.

I personally love this class. He is very passionate about the subject and I swear, the man knows everything there is to know about it. He's got a great personality and he will usually keep me interested and alert the entire class period (this is at 8 in the morning, mind you). His class is less facts and more concepts which to some people is a great thing. Yes, we have to incorporate things that happened during a time period but he is more concerned with presenting the OUTCOME than every little detail. The take-home tests are tough but if you pay attention to the things that he stresses in class you'll do just fine.

Dr Dizgun is probably one of the of the nicest profs on campus. He genuinely enjoys teaching and actually cares about his students. My only criticism is that he does seem to focus too greatly on the broad themes, making it difficult to write substantial essays.

Dizgun was great. He was really laid back and actually enjoyed teaching. But he didn't really "teach" it was more "thinking" about junk. The midterm was a take home, the final in class. Not too bad. Show up, occasionally say something out loud, and you will do fine. But he does go over things over and over again. Especially when morans are not paying attention and can't comprehend anything.

The thing about Dizgun is if you don't write what HE thinks is the correct answer and you don't write it exactly the way HE wants it, you won't do very well. I got an A on most of my papers (which were the only assignments given) but they were fairly annoying to write. As aggrivating as it was to do the work in the class, I did enjoy it because Dizgun really enjoys teaching as far as I could tell and was enthusiastic about the subject matter. I learned a lot (I had awful teachers and didn't learn anything in high school) and actually didn't think this class was that bad.

He definitely likes to talk about history and go off on tangents, so if you're into that sort of thing, he's the right guy to take. He spends almost every class discussing various things, and you have to read 3 different books that will be on the final. The midterm was take-home essay, and most of what he gives you is either essay or a project, so if you're not good at writing don't take this class. He's a great guy, but expects just a little too much from a 100 class.
