He mumbles and is kinda weird, but seriously this guy is super nice. Take him. He gives incredibly detailed reading guides that tell you exactly what will be on each exam. You don't even need a book because he will give you helpful website links too. Class isn't mandatory but I think it's helpful to go at least the majority of the time. The labs are confusing sometimes but he was never rude when I asked for help. Show up for the bonus quizzes too, they might save your grade.

Bohuski has been by far the best teacher that I have had during my experience at WKU. This class is extremely interesting and you can tell Bohuski gets excited about teaching it. The class is easy if you come and halfway pay attention. You have to do the labs that he gives you, but if you use your textbook, it's not a problem at all.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. This may be the worst professor on this campus. He is terrible, and I usually try to give people the benefit of the doubt. He does not teach anything that is on the tests. He doesn't do well in a conversation face to face about a grade and I doubt he even knows what he is doing while he is grading. He hands the tests back with no marks, so you have no clue what you've missed. He is scatterbrained, and all over the place. He could potentially be nice, if he was ever attentive to the students. Our poor PASS teacher studied for our final more than his own, to make us a homemade 12 page study guide. That alone could not even help us to pass this final exam. I have had nothing but A's and B's up until this class, so PLEASE do not take this teacher. If you do not want to study astronomy every day for five hours, do not take this because it is RIDICULOUS. Try another teacher!!

Mr. Bohuski's class is good if you're the kind of person who just needs gen ed credit and you don't wanna learn anything. As long as you fill out his study guides and do the labs and quizzes, the course will be cake. Be prepared to deal with his scatter-brained ness though. He often talks to himself during lectures, and sometimes you get lost because he speaks in jargon only he can understand. Overall the class is pretty easy. He's just not exactly the best at explaining himself sometimes.

Do not take Bohuski for astronomy! He is so scattered and there is absolutely no structure to this class. Also, he does not use blackboard. I got an A in every other class except for this class. I thought astronomy sounded fun and interesting but trust me, it's not! Especially with Bohuski. There was pretty much no point in going to class because I didn't learn a single thing in class, I basically taught myself everything before the tests. The only reason I passed this class was because of all the extra credit opportunities he gives.

His lectures usually consists of ramblings that are hard to follow and understand so it was nearly impossible to take notes from him. On occasion he would outline his lecture using powerpoint, but he would go through slides so quickly and go back and forth so much that it was hard to get anything down. His tests were difficult, but passable if you came to class and did his study guide. He gave tons of extra credit and was pretty understanding if you talked him about any problems you were having. The final only had a few questions from previous exam topic on it. Some of the labs were confusing, but they aren't hard if you give yourself enough time to do them.

Bohuski doesnt offer many notes, but there are alot of pictures. All his lectures are from powerpoint but he doesnt use blackboard so after the class there is no way to see them. He either goes thru the notes really fast or really slow making it difficult to take notes. The tests are somewhat difficult but if you study the book with the few notes from the class it'll be easy. If I had the choice i would've choosen someone different.

You can get extra credit by doing the random extra credit assignments he hands out. They aren't too difficult, just time-consuming. I wouldn't recommend this class. I don't recommend taking astronomy with Dr. Bohuski, not because he is not a nice guy or incompetent in his subject area, just because of how the content is presented. Most of the time we sat in class was wasted looking at slide after slide on the overhead projector, almost none of which was truly relevant to the content we were supposed to be memorizing for the tests. Note that I say memorizing, not learning. If you go to the PASS review session the week before the test, it is easy to get an A. Read the sections noted in the reading guide; it's actually easier to do that than sit through class. Attendance policy is nonexistent and most people skipped about all year. I didn't, just because I was paying for the class and there was the occasional interesting comment. However, if you can take the course in an honors section, I think that would be a lot more beneficial. I have heard it was not any more difficult, just more interesting with a smaller class size and more engaging projects. I don't know about you, but plotting stars as dots on paper doesn't exactly intrigue me. Going out for observations and applying content covered in class, though, is a different story. The best part of the class was going to the planetarium, where you could actually see something in 3-D. The diagrams he scribbled on the board may as well have been written in hieroglyphics for all the sense they made to me. Dr. Bohuski is very energetic and enthusiastic about the subject, but often to the point that he was spastic and completely unorganized and scattered. He was fun, but I left each class wondering why I had even bothered showing up. The course is easy, and adequate if you're just looking to fulfill general ed, but rather unsatisfying if you are trying to understand and enjoy astronomy.

Mr. Bohuski is the only guy I know that could have a bobble head made of him and it would bobble less than his actual head. He mumbles and talks like he's in a race, and nothing he ever says makes any sense. He'll start off talking about black holes and cut himself off halfway through his sentence and start talking about his roommate. This guy is like 60 some years old... and he has a roommate. He gives you lots of material to study, although you wouldn't need it. He grades on the biggest curve known to man, because nobody ever passes the tests. If the requirement to teach Astronomy was that you had to be from another planet, Mr. Bohuski definantly would fit the profile. Definantly one of, if not the, weirdest teachers I've ever had.

Take-home labs & exams are pretty much the only grades. The exams are pretty hard if you don't study because his wording is tricky. Although this class is not a mandatory attendance required class, GO!!!! He gives extra credit pretty much weekly and a good portion of his lectures are on the tests. The class before the test, he will go over EVERYTHING that is going to be on it, which is amazing! His student worker holds study sessions the week of the test, and those are very helpful. The textbook helps alot if you read it, just keep up with the chapters and you will be fine. Bohuski is VERY SKILLED in his area of teaching, so he tends to ramble on about the stars and such, but he usually catches himself and gets back on track quickly. He really does love the subject that he teaches and it shows in his lectures. But as long as you take notes and actually attend class, you will do just fine. He is a very sweet man who likes his baseball and football and also, his astronomy. Good guy, good class, just GO TO IT!!! Trust me!

If you are planning taking Bohuski's class go to class only to get the reading guides and take tests. The first two sections I studied EVERYTHING that he said and failed the first test and made a "d" on the next. The last two I studied just the reading guide and used the book, did not even go to class and passed both with flying colors. He just bounces around up babling about useless information. BTW dont bother with the PASS sessions, another quick ticket to failing. It's amazing he took a subject that was somewhat simple and made it a struggle just to pass.

It's very hard for me to rate Dr. Bohuski. On the one hand, he is a very nice guy who genuinely seems to want to help out. He offers quite a bit of extra credit (up to 13 points, I believe). On the other hand, he is incredibly socially awkward. Be prepared to ask a question and have him not look you in the eye and stammer and stutter and change the subject. Also, because of this kind of social awkwardness, it makes note-taking incredibly difficult. He stammers and mutters and basically talks to himself, and then expects you to know not only the material, but how to apply it to everyday life. For example, when dealing with the chapter about different types of light (infrared, UV, etc.), one of the test questions dealt with a tanning bed. Memorizing the concepts is not enough -- it is all about applying them, which is tough.
There are 4 tests, each worth 100 points. They are all multiple choice and true/false. There are also 4 labs you have to do, each worth 30 points. There's a lot of emphasis on physics and how everything works. If you are looking for an astronomy class where you memorize the order of the planets, this is NOT the one for you. However, if you study hard and are a good student and can deal with Bohuski's rambling lectures, it's not so bad.

You don't have to come to class, but the test questions mostly come from the lectures. The class itself has a few easy labs and plenty of extra credit. Bohuski seems to love astronomy, so he just puts up pictures and talks about them so you have to write down what is important. He will give you a study guide, but what is most helpful are the Astro PASS classes. If they are available go to them!

And I actually studied for his tests but I would still only make C's on them becuase he didnt always use questions from the study guides or would just put in questions from chapters that we werent covering! The only thing that brought my grade up was the extra credit, because he gives a lot of it...but the only way to get it is to go to class. My advice, go to class as much as you can stand it, listen for extra credit, and then walk out.

He doesn’t take attendance, but it’s in your best interest to go to class because he gives extra credit all the time. The final was mostly new material with this a few question from the other tests. The labs are all take home, except the constellation quiz which you do in class. They are pretty simple, just follow the directions. I would suggest going to the PASS sessions to learn what he has taught in class that week... I ended up with a B in the class... Take advantage of all the extra credit he gives!! Labs are very easy and will help your grade so much... His test are fairly difficult just because it's hard to learn from his lectures but they are possible to get A's and mostly B's on... The text book isn't required but I'd recommend that you get it to help with labs and for studying for test.... hope this helps!!

Dr. Bohuski knows his stuff, he just has a hard time relaying it to the audience. He mainly lectures with his back to the class facing the blackboard. Trying to stay awake in his class was an endurance contest. The best part about it is that you get to go to the Planetarium a couple of times. He gives out lab projects to do which are pretty easy and once in a while he'll give extra credit to help out. His tests are a little tricky with the way they are worded so you have to be careful about that. He understands that this is a Gen. Ed. course so he curves grades if the whole class is doing bad.

Bohuski is pretty easy overeall. Astronomy material isn't that easy in general, but attendance isn't mandatory, we have great pass sessions every thursday night, and he gives you a very detailed reading guide that tells you page by page exactly what paragraphs to read in the chapter. as long as you go to class about once a week and keep caught up and do the labs, it's a good class to get a decent grade!

Bohuski was one of the weirdest professors I've ever had in my life. He gets excited and waves his hands around when he's demonstrating a point he's trying to get across. Attendence isnt required but I suggest you attend because he only gives you half the questions that are on the tests at the pass sessions. If you are looking to catch up on some sleep, his class is the answer, especially when he turns the lights out. The tests are usaully easy if you do the study guides. And the labs are easy as well. Overall this man is a good, but weird, teacher.

I really don't see why anyone would have a problem with this professor. He really wants to help his students learn about something he loves. Yes he's a little weird, but no more than most people. It was an easy A and the labs were anything but difficult. A first grader could complete them. I suspect many of the students that found the class difficult hardly ever went to class. Bohuski made it interesting and fun, and almost always accepted late work from students who never came to class. Easy A.

The hard part about this course is staying awake during class. You look at lots of pictures of the universe and it is extremely easy to get bored. Dr. Bohuski is pretty flexible. I slept through half of every class, took terrible notes, studied by looking over bold faced terms in the book, and made B's on the tests. There are small labs you will have to do but they are incredibly easy and take no time at all. The extra credit is also easy. You have PASS sessions to help if you still struggle, and he gives a study guide at the beginning of every section of new notes with questions and he tells you where to find the answers. I never did the study guides, but I would imagine they are helpful. Pretty good.

I really enjoyed Astronomy with Prof. Bohuski. I will have to admit I wasnt there a lot of the time because of his attendance policy, but he always made class interesting when I went. He gives you a nice study guide before you begin each unit. You can easily never go to class (except for tests) and get an A. I just simply reviewed the study guide every night before the test. Also, he gives more extra credit than I ever got in high school. Take advantage.

Bohuski is a pretty good teacher. Make sure though that you read everything (and comprehend the text) for his class. He gives out very detailed study guides for each test and they help a lot, they just take a lot of time. Every now and then he'll give out extra credit worksheets and you can get an extra 2 points or so. His tests are kinda tough, b/c all the questions are worded really weird. He doesn't require you to come to class, but I would recommend it. It's straight lecture everyday, which kinda sucks but oh well. He gives out 4 labs throughout the semester that aren't too difficult. Good luck if ya take him.

This class was nothing like I had expected. Mr. Bohuski is a nice man, but a really bad teacher. He gets up in front of the room, throws some random overheads up, and expects the class to completely understand him. There is quite a difference in the material in his lectures and in the material in his tests. The only way I got a B in this class was by going to the PASS sessions. Otherwise, I studied on my own and ignored the Professor. He doesn't really make too much sense.

First of all the lab manual is a notebook with xeroxes. Second of all, Bohuski was not a particularly good instructor. Most of the time I could not understand what he was saying, not for lack of knowledge on subject, just because he was incoherent. He was not very helpful in the lab. Also, grading of the lab reports seems arbitrary. Points are taken off on charts and graphs because you do not have the units and such in the exact right place. Also, points are taken off randomly for not possessing the insight of a physics researcher when explaining the experiment and why your results are wrong.

Even though Bohuski is a horrible teacher, all you have to do is go to the P.A.S.S. sessions (study session the night before the test where a graduate student goes over the test with you - Bohuski will announce in class when these sessions are) Then just study what you learned at the PASS session, and you will do fine on the tests. This class is probably the easiest of the lab courses, so if you need a lab take this one. There are three tests and a final. Tests come directly off the notes you take in class, and the final is only on one chapter and a few basic things you learn at the very beginning. The best thing about this class though is the labs. 1.) They are super easy 2.) There's no scheduled time for them. He just gives you a lab practical you follow the simple instructions and usually have to turn it in 2 or 3 weeks later. Some you get more time for because it involves looking at the sun or moon. He also help outside of class if there is something you don't understand.

Ole Tom tends to ramble about advanced things that are intersting to him and maybe one other person in the room, and sometimes you'll wanna go to sleep, but if you read the stuff in the book and pay attention at least half the time in class you should do pretty well. He reads the test questions as a study guide the day before the exam. Plus there are P.A.S.S. sessions for the class and the study leader is really good at answering questions and helping you out. He never takes attendance, so if you are understanding things well, you never need to come to class if you don't want to.
