This class was terrible. Dr. Carter is a good teacher, but not of the content over which you are tested. The class average was below a 70% on the first test because of that very fact, and this in turn made the class nearly impossible to make an "A" in. Dr. Carter gives boring, pointless lectures, discusses personal issues that are irrelevant, and tries way too hard to be "buddy-buddy" with the class (Especially the first row). Do all of the extra credit early, as he just stops giving it midway through the class. Avoid taking Dr. Carter if at all possible, there are many other heath teachers out there. With only four tests to comprise your class grade, and the fact that his tests aren't over the lectured content, this is by no means and easy gen-ed class; it's an impossible one.

a challenging course to be 100 level. attendence isn't mandatory, but you recieve to points on ur final grade if you have perfect attendence. its a boring class, dont go in there already tired. some tests questions seem to cover some minute details, so make sure to look over the study guide.

Professor Carter is an amazing teacher who really gets into his class. He knows his material so well he doesn't have to read off of his notes. His lectures are more like a conversation, he tells you stories to help you remember stuff and he is very entertaining to listen to. I thoroughly enjoyed his class. I recommend him to anyone taking personal health.

I hated this class. How Don Carter got his PhD is beyond me because he teaches like he's teahing middle school health. He tries to be funny and buddy-buddy with his classes, but he just comes across as obnoxious. He also insisted at the begining of the semester that the class wasn't just commom sense and the book was a necessity and that you had to take tons of notes to pass. I barely touched the book and made to do lists during class and I made an A. If you can put up with this man, it's an easy A, otherwise take someone else.

I got a B in here and I didn't do hardly anything. I didn't even go to an AA meeting. I got like 60's or 70's on all the tests and pulled a B. Don't sit in the back though because you won't be able to hear a word he says.

Dr. Carter offers TONS of extra credit and give bonus points for perfect attendence and attending on days that not a lot of people show up. His tests are a bit tricky as he tests over some things he doesn't cover that are in the book. I didn't open my book once...don't recommend buying it.

O.K. let me first say that if you are in college and expect an easy road to hoe then you need to go to a junior college and develop your skills as a student and adult. I read numerous evaluations of this professor and it seems to me that many of the evaluations were from sophomore or lower classified students. Here it is plain and simple, GROW UP YOU ARE IN COLLEGE NOW NOT HIGH SCHOOL, I am a full time student and take no less than 18 hours a semester and currently I am enrolled for 20 hours with 19 next semester and I still maintain a 3.89 gpa. Oh did I mention I work 40 hours a week. Dr. Carter asks simply that you listen and learn this, unfortunately, requires some outside effort from the student. I know studying sucks but hey if you dont like it go to McDonalds. His lectures are sometimes boring I will grant you that much but hey thats the nature of the beastHeknows his stuff and is highly respected among his peers and if you listen to the little personal stories he tells that everyone bitches about then you just might learn something, he has been there and done that more than once. Unfortunately, he is retiring after next semester and the wealth of knowledge he has about safety will not be bestowed upon future students. Basically, stop bitching about him and look at what you as a student may be doing wrong. You wont make the grade by wasting your time with beer drinking or grab assing around when you should be studying. He gives alot of notes but so what there for your own benefit.

He is by far THE WORST teacher I have had at western. He gets off on tangents about his personal life that have nothing to do with the lesson, and then expects you to understand the principle come time for the test. No one did good on the tests. He is very very nice....BUT his class is impossible and extremely boring. I found this was a waste of my time, but a gen ed i was forced to complete.

This class is completely lecture and is pretty boring. The exams are extremely long, but as long as you take notes and read the book you should do okay. Plus, if you don't miss a class then you get 2 points added on to your final average.

OK this class was absolutely terrible. You go into the course expecting to learn the same stuff you would have in a high school Health class and while you take a minimum of 5 pages of notes a day you think it is common sense. ONCE THE FIRST TEST IS LAID IN FRONT OF YOU, YOU REALIZE THAT THIS MAN ENJOYS WATCHING HIS STUDENTS FAIL. HE IS NOT VERY BRIGHT AND DOESN'T TEACH THE CLASS LIKE A COLLEGE PROFESSOR SHOULD. I think he should be teaching 6th grade b/c that is his mentality. And by the way only 4 people got above an 80% in the class. Take my advice and take 2 PE classes in place of this class it is a waste of time.

This class was awful! He is way too hard. If you sit in the front row, you might want to wear a rain jacket or a hat or something...just take my word for it. The tests were unbearable. They never had any basis for what we covered in class. He would also tell us what was going to be on the test then the test would look nothing like that. I would not reccommend taking Carter. The birth control methods class was highly entertaining! I believe he is about the only one to teach Personal Health so you will find out what I mean. There are a few opportunities for extra credit. Make sure you attend every possibility. My advice...show up for class and study study study!

Mr. Carter is a really nice man, but you'll fall asleep in his lectures and if you skip you'll never want to come back. The test are so hard, even if you do study for hours. You are required to go to an AA meeting but they are just like what you see on TV, so just B.S. a bunch of stuff and he'll believe it. Get to know him, even if it's just asking him questions about past tests. The more he knows you and knows you by name the better, trust me.

The information he presents seems really easy and common sense but his test are not easy at all! You have to study study study for his tests. He takes attendance everyday. You have no idea what could show up on his tests. He pulls out the smallest details to test you on. He sometimes pulls out information from the book that you didn't even know was there. I bought the book and haven't touched it all semester. I suggest saving your money and not buying it but it is completely up to you. If your not one to study long hours or don't take good notes DO NOT take his class. He is a nice man though and answers questions

He was a nice man, but his class was too difficult. Health should not be this tedious of a class. The tests were impossible to study for and the facts on the tests were minute little facts. It was a very frustrating class for me. Although he is a truly nice man, I would not recommend taking his class.

This professor is very nice, but his class is tedious and his tests are almost impossible to study for...if you choose to take this instructor read the text carefully; often the lectures don't have much to do with the tests. Attending an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting was mandatory for this class...you have to write a summary of the meeting. You also have to write a review of a health article. Attendance is not mandatory, but if you have perfect attendance he adds two points to your final average.

He was a nice man, but he told personal stories every day which did not help when it came to test time. His tests were impossible and involved a lot of tedious details.
