This course was SO easy. Let me specify and ease your nerves about the information above. His tests ARE multiple choice (VERY easy). He gets the questions straight from the "Course Passes" he has you fill out prior to the start of each class over that days given information (taken from the book, but it's ONLY 5-7 questions). Most of the time, he will go over the Course Pass with you. No essays on his exams, just multiple choice and true/false. It's a mandatory final because it's the last test you take for the class, so it's not really an actual "final". It's cumulative because he gets the finals questions from the accumulated course passes. One thing, he does NOT give the course passes back! Print off 2 of each and copy the answers and keep one for yourself before you turn it in. Textbook is required because he gets the information from the book itself. It's easy to read too, though. His attendance policy is based off whoever turns in a course pass for that day (which is done at the beginning of class). No notes to take during class because everything he lectures on comes straight from the book! This class was extremely easy, Mr. Chappell was a wonderful professor for WKU.

You will get out of this class what you put into it. I have taken this class twice now, once as an undergraduate, once as a graduate. Both times I've earned As in the class.
The Class Itself:
One page papers and discussion board posts weekly. Not too bad. If you're already fairly informed about Public Administration, you'll do fine with minimal work. If you aren't, you may find the material and discussions necessary.
On discussion boards there tend to be two kinds of people: those that warrant their arguments/provide examples in real life and those that write two sentences for the week and undercover the topic. While I don't know how he grades the latter, the class over was interesting as long as you put the work into it.
You need about a half hour to hour a week entering in Discussion Board posts, an hour or so for the paper writing (depending on your speed), and about an hour or two reading the material (also depending on your speed). In total, you need to spend about 2.5 hours on this class a week.
Dr. Chappell:
He's a great, kind-hearted guy. If you ever visit him during office hours he is always eager to assist you.

James Chappell is a wonderful teacher in MANY ways, the best of which is that he is so damn knowledgeable and passionate about Government. He made the class interesting and fun. He's always available to discuss class material and to work with students if they need it. I will be taking any class that he teaches and you should too.

Class is simple, but requires a high level of problem solving skills and advanced language skills. Assignments were easy but interesting.

Dr. Chappell is a super nice man. I took this class on the web and found it to be pretty easy. As long as you do the work you will be fine. There are a lot of discussion boards and 3 short papers. I would recommend this class.

This is an online class. You have one page papers due each Friday. They are over the required reading. Pretty easy if you do the assigned readings. There is also a research paper due. The final is a case study that you have to read and then answer 10 questions over. Grad students must use a reference in each question. Not hard, but pretty time consuming and lengthy. Dr. Chappell was very nice and quick in answering any questions that I had.

Chappell's class is easy because he goes straight by the book in lecturing. You could miss every day of class and just memorize the definitions from the book before the test and get an A. The tests are online, but have to be taken during a certain time period. Lecturing is boring, but you get out of class early almost every day.

Chappell makes this class a breeze. He takes attendance, but there are no notes. He gives you a review sheet for every test with each and every question that is to be asked. There's no extra credit, but attendance counts in on the final grade. There are also no quizzes. I fell asleep in his class, because it is so boring. But I'm going to get an A...tell me that's not awesome. Take Chappell! He's easy.

Dr. Chappell is a great guy and will work with you. His class may not have been that entertaining, but anyone who puts in any work in the class can get an A.

He is real nice. But he is also really boring and really tough. He is a good guy, but I don't think its worth it to suffer throught the most boring lectures and tough TOUGH TOUGH exams. I'd look elsewhere for other teachers before signing up for him. I'm trying to avoid retaking him.

He is AWFUL. Nobody in the class can pay attention. He talks very slow and tests you over things that aren't on the study guide. VERY BORING. 80% of the class fails each test. Not at all helpful. Avoid this class.

You do not want to take this guy. I like govt and was expecting a good class, but this guy is just plain boring! All his ideas are jumbled when he lectures which makes it more frustrating when taking notes. He does however give a list of topics you should know for the test, which makes it easier.
