At first, Dr. Pope seemed like an okay teacher. However it didn't take long for me to see that the class wasn't going to be a good one. She would purposely give more homework on the weeks that we had exams, like she was testing us but it was impossible to keep up. Her quizzes were timed. If you went even a second over, instead of deducting points she just gave you a 0 on the quiz. She profread my first paper, gave me a C. I changed everything she told me to and still that is the grade that I got. The final paper, I got a B. It wasn't proofread. I don't understand? She seemed to like to see the class struggle. In her emails, she would sometimes smart off. It was annoying. That isn't what teachers get paid to do. Especially those who have undergrads who do EVERYTHING for them. I asked her a question once, something you would think the professor should know, and she replied by saying she would have to ask Abby because she wasnt sure. What is that? A professor doesnt know an answer to her own classroom question? She has to ask the undergrad? That is dumb. I would not recommened her class to anyone. If it is possible to take the class with a different teacher I would highly recommend that!

Awesome class and great professor! Stickler for attendance and "professionalism points" but just don't skip more than 3 times and make sure you're on time to class. She makes the already interesting class, fun and enjoyable. Theres a quiz approx once a week but she tells you (or hints) in advance, and half the time she talks so much, theres no time to take the quiz and she ends up giving you freebie points just for being in class. Participation in discussion is required, but the topics discussed are relevant to everyone so it's not hard. Tests aren't too awful, just the essays because you're not sure what random essays she'll assign. However, she does put 5 on there and you only have to do three. There are field trips to the courthouse, juvenile detention center, jail, etc. that are mandatory...so don't skip those (not that you'd want to!) I'd take this class again if I could.

Dr. Pope is one of the absolute worst professors I have ever encountered. I had her in an online course and thank god I never had to meet her in person. She is a hateful, condescending, snarky woman who is convinced she knows everything and all of her students must be completely incompetent, because that's how we get treated. Her class is near impossible to get through because she tries to cram in a face to face class worth of material into an online class, which does not allow us adequate time to learn anything or study much at all because you jump from one chapter right into the next. Her tests are horrible, she will ask you questions over the most nit-picky details from the chapter and leave out more relevant and important information. I actually went to the library and copied the entire 3 chapters for each test and highlighted almost everything; I still failed the first two exams. On every test we had at least 3 questions got thrown out because they were not worded well; I'm convinced she does this deliberately. She gives a quiz every week over each chapter and has you do discussion board activities sometimes, and also two paper assignments. These things were all that prevented my grade from being completely terrible. And don't expect a break from her...ever. She does not give extra credit and if you miss something, you're screwed. Even if you are sick there is no mercy. Her syllabus actually says she expects her students to "push through the drama that comes into their lives." That's all well and good but it's not like all we do is sit around and think of ways to blow off class. People get sick. I emailed her several times through the semester; she was nasty in all her replies and acted like it was a huge inconvenience to answer anything. I was almost scared to ask her for anything because of the rude reply I would get in return.
I know it sounds like I am ranting, but DO NOT take this woman unless you have no other option. She is just another one of those bitter professors who takes pleasure in watching her students struggle rather than trying to help them out. She should not have a teaching job period because clearly she cannot handle what it involves.

Dr.Pope is a great teacher. You learn a lot in her class. You must read the book but she will tell you that if what she is saying in the book or not. It would help if you put a study group together. But overall I loved her class and would take her again.

This class was taken during the winter term web class, so you have to read quite a bit. You have to check blackboard daily if taken during summer or winter because Dr. Pope posts assignments daily. She is really good with getting back with you (quickly) if you have questions. There were quizzes and exams on top of homework, so there were many avenues for grades. If you are self-motivated I highly recommend this course. In a winter/summer term it can be an easy grade. Just be sure and always refer to her as Dr. Pope ;)

The class is pretty basic. Be sure to read all the materials given and the book because they will be on the test. Don't miss any classes because her notes would be very difficult to understand without her explanation during lecture. She is very thorough and easy to understand, but you have to take her very seriously. She grades very hard on the two or three essays she puts on each exam. Be sure to write absolutely everything you can possibly think of on the essay topics or she WILL count off. She gives 7 points a day for a class activity and it adds up to be a test grade which is great if you always come to class. She has two paper assignments which she also grades very hard. The class is not very hard if you be thorough in studying all the materials. She also gives plenty of extra credit through short papers and study board.

Dr. Pope is a really good professor. She's very diligent and thorough but not in a bad way. Her tests cover a lot but it's nothing unreasonable and she is more than fair w/ how she conducts her class.
She offers some extra credit and usually rewards you for coming to class w/ some kind of activity points. There were two papers. While it's not an easy A, Dr. Pope knows her stuff and goes out of her way to help you out. The content is very interesting and she utilizes her class time in an efficient, learner-friendly manner. I'd recommend this class to anyone who's ready to learn something.

She is pretty much meant to be a graduate professor.
The difficulty of her class is beyond extreme.
She expects NOTHING but excellence.
She is VERY anal about the way things are done.
She "encouraged" me to withdraw instead of really seeking out help for her class.
I feel more pressure to memorize and do well on the test then to have a thorough understanding of the topic, which completely defeats the purpose of taking the class.
I'm only motivated to finish the class to show her that I'm capable of doing it.

The material is easy to understand, but Dr. Pope makes the class harder than it really is. I don't understand her point in trying to trick you on exams.
She's a great person and is willing to help you when you need it. I like how she tells funny stories about her family and funny encounters with people.
..but...don't take the class unless you need it.

First off, I loved her as a person. She is very funny, down to earth, and extremely helpful.
However, I HATED this course. I'm not even a psy. major or minor. I just had to have the class as an elective for my major.
She gives pop quizes like crazy, so be alert and read everything.
Her tests are impossible. I found myself studying well over a week for them. READ READ READ the chapters. She provides study guides, which are nice, but take about an hour to go through and understand. Her tests are multiple choice, which are the difficult multiple choice where every answer sounds the same. She also gives about 4 or 5 essay questions on her tests. A few of them are pretty easy, but most of them are super difficult and you have to include everything she discussed about the given topic.
She provides extra credit, which is nice.
Like I said, she is an awesome person. It's just that this class made me want to cry every night. It's one of those classes that will take up every minute of free time you have. And with two jobs, I was stressed to the max with this course.
Maybe you'll have better luck, because I certainly didn't.

This course has been one of, if not the best I've taken in college. Dr. Pope is funny, fair and insightful. Class is entertaining and enlightening, although in order to do well, one must put forth effort. I recieved high scores, but they were definitely earned. Dr. Pope is a very involved professor, and is willing to work with you. For exams, she will provide a good review, and while studying is required, the material is not difficult. Bottom line: you'll learn a lot of relevant information, and do as well as you are motivated to perform.

Dr. Pope's class was one of the most challenging classes I've ever had. It was very tough, but she also made it very interesting, so we could apply it to our own lives. She expects alot, but she tells you that up front. The tests cover alot of material, so don't pull all nighters for them, START EARLY! Her T/F questions are actually 'statement' questions. She gives you 2 statements, and you have to say A is true, B is false, etc. They're tricky. The questions are also very detailed. She loves class participation, so that's a way to get on her good side. She's got a sense of humor, but can also be a smart allec at times. You can do the study board experiments for extra credit. There's a media review (5-7 pgs) and then another paper at the very end of the class (in edition to the final) about the same length. Don't take her class if you don't have the time to put into it!!!

It is not easy but, if you study you will be fine. It is not a class that you just show up to and pass, you will have to do a little more work then you might expect. But she makes it so interesting it is worth your while Don't disregard her warnings about what could be on the test...if she points it out-STUDY IT!

Dr. Pope's Psych 350 class is by far the worst class I have ever enrolled in while here at WKU. I thought Pope was not as fair as she could be. Although she was funny in class, and had a sense of humor, the course load was too much. Very strict about attendance. We had papers due almost every week (professional journal reviews) and she graded them harder than any english professor or other subject I've ever had. I would never take her for anything again, and I recomed taking someone else unless you don't mind slaving over work for her class. I don't think she cares that students have other classes and commitments. Be prepared to study very hard for each exam!!! They are very difficult. Lots of writing and tons of reading (course text as well as several out of class assignments). Good luck is this time slot is your only option...

She is one of the worst professors I have ever had. This woman acts as if the class is very incompetent and has to dominate everything you do. Her goal is to make stress you out any way you can. You ask any question, she will give you the broadest answer as much as possible. Not only that, she admires her credentials, and loves to say how she's sooo busy. Who really cares? She tells you to know the book back and front. And ask the most ridiculous stat that you would never think would be on the exam. It's just to make you read over something that is important, and just realize the most trivial questions are on that exam. This woman likes to stress you out for no particular reason. She shouldn't be a professor at all, she should teach kindergarten because she belittles the students and consider herself always right. Steer clear from this class, unless you want to go through hell.

She is a great teacher and she gives lots of points for participation and just for being there and doing class activities. Pope is one of the most difficult professors I have had. Her tests are tricky just to be tricky. She seems to enjoy her status just a little too much and seems to be overcompensating for something. Her test questions are vague and confusing. She will fail you on a paper just because a comma is out of place. There are more papers and projects due for this class than all my other classes combined. The information given in the class is common sense made to look more important by given fancy terms and words. This class is a nightmare. You are not allowed to miss an exam for a medical reason but it's ok to miss if you're in athletics for school, which I find ridiculous. So if I'm in the hospital it's unexcused but If I'm out throwing a ball that's ok??? She also always seems to be in a bad mood and is smart mouthed, enjoying making students look stupid. I would not take this class and if you do, may the force be with you...

Dr Pope is a wonderful teacher. Her tests are very difficult, but you absolutely HAVE to read the text to do well on them. Most of the materal for the tests comes from the book anyways. Notes are easy because she doesn't give you too much. There's plenty of group work and activity points to get, so you want to go to class and even though attendance is not mandatory, she does pass around a sign in sheet. Plenty of people got A's, i just wasn't one of them. Make sure you study pretty specific stuff cause the essay questions are worth a lot of points. Although a very difficult teacher, also a VERY good teacher, I will remember things from her class for years to come. We did cover a massive amount of information in a very short period of time, but we were only doing what was mandatory for all the teachers to cover. READ YOUR CHAPTERS!!!! She is not joking when she tells you that you won't do well if you don't read. As you can tell I got D in the class but it was only because it took me half the semester to realize you actually DO have to read the material, and make sure you study your butt off too if you don't just have a photographic memory. She is a very kind, understanding person and she goes out of her way to have her office open many hours of the day to help out her students. She might come off as being a little hard, I even thought she could have been a drill sargent, but she more caring than most realize. Even if you don't think you need help, when she offers for the class to drop by her office if anyone needs extra help on papers, take advantage of the opportunity. She then, in turn, gets to know you personally which will be to your advantage, trust me. If you have poor study habits or just not a very strong student I would actually recommend you not taking her, but the average student shouldn't have a problem.

This class covers a lot of information, but it is a pretty interesting course. Dr. Pope lectures as well as encourages students to read the chapters. She also gives quizzes on random chapters before her tests. This is only to prepare you for the test. After you take the quiz, she lets you keep the question sheet and gives you the correct answers. Her tests are multiple choice, true/false, and have one or two essays on them. At least try on the essays. She gets rather peeved when you don't. You will have one paper to write, but she gives you a format to go by and she makes herself very easily available if you need help. She is a very good professor.
