Additional Comments |
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. The only students that are required to take this class are Film Studies Minors. The Film Studies Minor is only 2 years old and I doubt too many students need this class. I simply took it because it counts as an elective in Television Production. You think it sounds fun going into the class the first day but think otherwise. Last semester (Spring 2003) it lasted from 2:30 to 6:50 PM on Mondays and you stay every minute of it. The lab is simply watching a movie, but the films he chose did not appeal to hardly anyone in the class and were very difficult to understand for an average movie watcher. You must stay for the films because at the end of class Dr. Lash usually assigns an assignment over the film due the next week. Also the exams are nearly impossible to get an A or a B. You have to read the book bit by bit to even get a C on an exam. His lectures are meaningless and you spend most of the time before the film talking about what movies the class saw the previous weekend. Of course, I never volunteered because some people have to work on the weekends. About half of the class were extreme film geeks. They knew every line to a film that had ever been made and I am sure they got noticed by Dr. Lash. The only reason I made a B was because the Paper counts 25% and the short assignments over the movies and attendance counts 10% which is 35% of your grade. The 3 exams are worth 15% each and the final which is questions over previous exams counts 20%. This class is only offered every 2 years in the Spring, so I suppose that means it will not be offered again until the Spring of 2005. This class will not benefit anyone in any form in your future unless you plan on replacing Joel Siegel or Roger Ebert when they retire.
