As a person Kiasatpour is an enjoyable individual. You can tell he tries to make class interesting. There were only 2 tests, and a paper that determined your grade. It was a 3 hour class every Wed. that we sat and wasted time in watching videos and pointless discussions that were all over the place. Just like his previous classes, he's all over the place. Whether it's with the syllabus, the assignments, or what he wants you to do. He's always unclear and alway's all over the place.

If you want to take a class just to listen to him talk about himself and growing up in Iran go for it! He is arrogant, rude, and overall thinks way too much of himself. If you can tolerate sitting in his class you will get a good grade, if not you will struggle. Sitting in class is difficult tho, since he literally doesn't actually teach anything that is on the agenda for the day. Good luck.

This class was kind of a joke. International Affairs is my major and I was really excited to delve into the subject, but Kiasatpour doesn't really know how to teach. The information was interesting, but he would get so off topic and our class never knew when things were due or what was actually going to be on exams. This class should be an easy A but it was kind of bullshit. By the end of the semester I just went to class to hear him go off on his hilarious tangents- usually about Iran or pistachios. Ask lots of questions and don't get behind at the beginning of the semester- believe me.

The course basically consists of meeting once a week for about 2.5 hours or so, you watch a foreign political film, and then you have a film analysis sheet that you need to complete by the following Sunday. Along with the sheet, you also need to participate in discussion boards on blackboard answering your choice from discussion questions listed on the sheet. It's a pretty simple layout and while the analysis sheet can feel time consuming, I think it's pretty fair since you don't have a textbook and you only meet once a week. You also have 3 long papers (including one paired project) due through out the semester.
Kiasatpour is a great professor, but if you are looking for an easy grade, don't look here. Kiasatpour is a tough grader, but the analysis sheets shouldn't be too difficult. The long papers are a little more difficult, but since your final is an optional take-home assignment, I think the long papers are also pretty fair. Also, Kiasatpour is sometimes unclear about exactly what he wants in his assignments or when they are do, so keep a close eye on the syllabus schedule and be ready to email him with questions frequently.

Kiasatpour is a great professor and his lectures are interesting. But he has high expectations for students and grades hard, so you really need to have a good understanding of all the concepts.
Take time to prepare for the tests, since its not just all multiple choice and some of the fill-ins can be tricky. Also, there is a fairly lengthy paper you have to do towards the end that includes an annotated bibliography and more work than you are probably use to yet if you are only a freshmen or sophomore.
All and all, really great, I'm taking him for another course this semester because he's worth it. Just remember you have to really work for your grade because its not an easy A.

If you're here looking at the green to red ratio, and hopeful, you are sadly mistaken. I am a third of the way through my Politics and Film course and already horrified of my dropping GPA. I am an honors student, and have to put up at least five hours in a single day in order to receive a B on a Kiasatpour analysis. His instructions are remarkably obscure and misleading. His usage of unnecessary texts applied to the films is pathetic. You will be reading journal articles that are maybe 12% pertinent to the film at hand, then having to analyze the political function of each stylistic impulse of each director in each film. Kiasatpour has the most boring and calming voice on planet Earth, it is as if your grandmother suddenly earned a degree, and rocked you to sleep while grading everything you write with scrutiny to an F. I hope you withdraw before making the same mistake I did.

Dr. Kiasatpour is a fascinating individual. He is originally from Iran, which allows him to share different viewpoints on the world. The class focuses on International Relations and is very interesting. You will cover topics that include: Conflict, Information Technology, Environment, Trade, etc. The class is difficult and many students do not like it because of the amount of critical thinking that is involved. You are required to do weekly Blackboard quizzes, write an 8-12 page term paper, and have 3 exams that will test you to the max. If you are will to work, the class is great and you will learn a lot. If you do not want to read and challenge yourself, then you will struggle to find success. Overall, great class for people that like a challenge. Dr. Kiasatpour is also hilarious.

Pretty difficult class all in all. Dr. K is very smart and has high expectations for his students so be prepared to work. Did I enjoy this class? Not really. Some of the material is fairly interesting and I did learn a lot, but the workload just gets annoying after a couple weeks. There is a quiz due every Sunday on Blackboard, and if there isnt a quiz for the week, there is some other small assignment due to replace it. Most of the work involves using two or three different concepts or course terms, and you have to be sure to bold each term you use and clearly define them. He usually requires a certain number of words to use in each assignment as well, so you have to submit an "honesty statement" each time you turn something in that shows your word count and that the work you did was all "your own." These little expectations of his get very annoying. Tests are very difficult, and the term paper is pretty tough to write as well. Dr. K is pretty bad about getting stuff back to you as well. We turned our term papers in the week before Thanksgiving and I never got it back. I finally saw the grade posted on BB right before he turned the final grades in, so I had no idea where I stood going into the final because of his lazy attitude towards grading assignments. Have fun!

I just finished Professor Kiasatpour's summer online class and I really have mixed feelings towards this guy. While it is obvious he really knows his stuff he also is very picky in everything you turn on. You are required to post in a discussion board and you will typically have to answer 4-5 in depth questions that cover each chapter from your textbook, notes, and also another book that you are required to read from. The class is a lot of work and Professor Kiasatpour has very high expectations for his students. If you are willing to work you can get an A in the class like I did. If you are going to half do it then expect to struggle.

This was an ok course, considering it was online. Just make sure you keep up with the online discussions and you'll be ok. The exams are easy and he is a soft grader on them. There are four quizzes given via BlackBoard and the final must be take at DELO. The final was a bit ridiculous, but if you read the text and all the posted notes then you will do fine. I didn't hardly read the textbook and was able to pull a B in the class easily.

I took this class online! DO NOT TAKE IT ONLINE!!! You read a very long chapter and do very in depth questions. He is very particular and wants every possible answer you can give him. His test are ridiculous hard! the final is 3 essays 500-750 words apiece. Then more short answer questions. If i started it 6 hours before the deadline i would not have finished. Do not take this course unless you want to be tied down and never see the light of day. way way way overkill on the amount of work he wants put in. His tests are very hard and complicated. Do not suggest taking this class.

It's a great class, it's hard, he pushes you and expects a lot, but you learn tons. I have an 88 in the class at the moment. He challenges you, you have a quiz or essay about every week, usually take home. Our midterm was take home, final isn't. There is a big 10-15 page paper due at the end of the course that takes a lot of work but he's willing to help you. I think he's a great teacher, even though its hard and it takes a lot of your time, its worth it, you actually learn something instead of regurgitating info for tests and forgetting it.

First off when i first searched for evaluations on this teacher it seemed like he was well liked and a decent teacher. GO NO FURTHER. drop the class immediately if you have this teacher, please its for your own good!
Secondly this guy is from Iran. He favors people from the Middle East, and constantly talks negatively about the United States. He is very unorganized and almost never ends class on time (this can get very annoying after about 15 times).
Not only is Kiasatpour the worst teacher I have ever had, he is also an arrogant man who doesn't appreciate the country that has given him and his "people" so much.

Dr. Kiasatpour is a very intellegent man, and expects his students to do a lot of work. Even though he is very bright his classes are very unorganized and students in my class often found it hard to follow from class to class. Often times his lectures would not connect from class to class. For example: one day his lecture was about the involvement of the British in WW1 and then the next class he would lecture on the Gulf War, never brining anything together. He expects his students to have A LOT of background knowledge on the Middle East (most normal students dont), and expects students to perform EXTENSIVE research, read 3-4 required books (many of which are impossible to finish), then write very long term papers. I would not reccomment this class unless you want this to be your main focus for the semester you take it.
He is also very arragant, very liberal, and not very informed on America. If this guy would have been around during the cold war he would have been dealt with.

I think Dr. Kiasatpour is great. He helps his students in any way he can. As long as he sees that you are even trying he will help you. I have taken many courses with him and even though he is a tough professor you learn in his classes. I RECOMMEND DR. KIASATPOUR. I really liked his Politics & Film class, in which you have to analyze different movies and apply political concepts. Every week you have to do an analysis and discussion. You also have three papers and a presentation. But the class is really good and if you take it you will learn a lot.

Dr Kiasatpour is a very unique professor. First of all, I would not recommend him for people not interested in Political Science or if you are just taking the class to fill a requirement. He knows what he is talking about, and his side rants really add a new aspect to class. He tells you his opinion which is very rare from a professor, and if you are willing to put in the work it is a really fun class. You can talk to him before and after class about anything, and he is always there to help if you have questions. I know several people who have tried to take his class and said it was too hard, but these people were not willing to actually put forth the effort needed in his class. It is rare to find a class, especially at Western, that challanges the students to go beyond what is necessary to improve their education. This class is not for those who want to do the minimum. You will have to work for a good grade in his class, but through your effort you will come out of Dr Kiasatpour's class with a better knowledge of International Politics and a better global perspective.

Kiasatpour is the man. He is extremely passionate about his subject matter and loves to have discussions with students. At first, he seems really tough, but once the weak people leave the class, it's great. There is a research paper involved, but it's not that bad. His exams and quizzes can be a little tough, but you're good if you carefully review all the material. ALWAYS DO THE ASSIGNED READING! Make sure you have read the textbook chapter, NY Times & BBC articles, and anything else he gives you. He does a great job of teaching students the processes of critical thinking and not just a bunch of definitions. He has very high expectations and may sometime go a little over, but it's well worth it. He offers extra credit opportunities through writing about various functions on campus (like the Genocide lecture last spring). Great Professor!

This was a web class and it was difficult. There were discussion board questions each week, about 20 something. You had to respond to two and answer them, then respond to someone else's response, then respond back if anyone responds to your intial responses. Then there are the questions for everyone to answer, two or three each week. You have to check it daily and work on it daily. There is a research paper due and you have to use the resources you must use. You have to get NewYorkTimes by e-mail everyday to your web address and read them for some questions come from them. The first exam took me seven hours to write, type and complete, and the second, took me the same. There were 3 essays and you had to have 250 to 350 words each, then the last exam, the final, there were 15 numbered definitions, with some of them having more than one term on a line. You had to define, then write a 100 word explaination or example of each. It was very draining, exhausting and hard. But............I learned much about our government. It was worth the effort to learn so much. He challenges your responses and gives input and adds much info. that you didn't previously know. I feel I know a lot more about our govt. now and will be watching and listening more and more abreast of what is going on in our next election. I would have really rather had him in a classroom situation, rather than on the web.

There are several quizzes and 4 test (each of which get progressively easier as your learn the terminology, so stick with it). He drops the lowest test grade, which is awesome, and bases a large percentage of your grade on a 6 page paper due at the end of the course. IF YOU TAKE THE CLASS< STICK WITH IT!

If you really want to learn about and thoroughly understand our government, take this class from Dr. Kiasatpour. If you are interested in Poli Sci as a major or minor, then he is an excellent teacher. If you are just looking for an easy class to satisfy your Gen Ed requirements, take this class from someone else. I learned so much in this class, but it made me not want to take any more government classes for the rest of my life. I was determined to get an A in his class, but it by far the hardest class I've taken at Western so far. I studied so hard for his tests and I still didn't do very well on most of them. The 7-pg. paper is what saved my grade in his class. He is very entertaining and knows his Poli Sci, but his class is a little too difficult for such a low level class in my opinion.

Dr. Kiasatpour is a great teacher, he really knows all of the information and breaks it down for you to learn. But dont miss class! Its all based on lectures, he posts the notes on powerpoints on blackboard but it is still hard to receive good grades without reading the book and paying attention in class. His tests are pretty hard, about half multiple choice, and the other half he gives you questions based on articles you read in the NY Times, he gives you the article there to read so you dont have to have previously read them. They are all applying concepts and theories you learn in the class to actual events. This is a really interesting class, and if you pay attention and learn how to apply concepts you will be fine.

The test are difficult and hard to figure out and answer. He wants you do read the New York times from front to back and remember everthing in it, Not just the headlines! The test is mostly multi-choice and essay, short and long style. He wants you to read a long article and decicde how it relates to international politics from his point of view. The final is cumlitive and you will be required to write a 5-7 page paper on an international topic middle east or noth African. I think he is from Iran and his views on subject are most likely not the same are yours.
He does drop the lowest grade but it will mostly likely be the final. If you have an A going in to the final you are not requried to take it. Good luck if you take this guy.

He is from Iran or something, but he doesn't have an eastern accent or anything. He's very cool and makes an effort to know each student's name, even though the class is big. His examples in class are hilarious.
As for reading, he assigns a textbook and another book, but you don't really HAVE to read them. There is a "thought paper" at the end of the semester in which you have to use both books, but for the tests he gives you a study guide and you can just look up the answers. He also uses PowerPoint in class and posts all slides on Blackboard.
I would highly recommend this class. You can get an A if you pay attention and take pretty good notes.

Good god, STAY AWAY. With confusing notes, perplexing test that are barely legible, and a teacher that is Ben Stein (from Ferris Bueler) with a Spanish accent, this class is more than difficult. You'll find it takes more then a double shot with a couple No-Doz just to pay attention in this class. The assignments, classwork and notes are extremely confusing. Some parts of tests are on obscure things found in the text book in parts he never assigned in chapters you aren't even reading, but figures you should have read or you should already know. On the first test, the class average was somewhere in the low 50's, and he remarked that we were doing well... You are much better off going with Lasley if you can get in.
