I would not recommend this course unless you prefer to merely study a book on your own with no outside help from the professor. I am glad I took this class because it taught me study habits that I did not need in high school. Professor Miller's lectures were of basically no use, because he never really covered the topics, but instead, told many useless and completely uninteresting stories. While I received and A in this course and was able to skip the final because of this, it was not without much hard work and many many hours spent slaving over the book.

This class s aweful. Mr. Miller teaches this class like the 100 people in it are all upper level psy majors. He has powerpoints that you take notes from but before you can write down the first 2 sentences he changes slides. He tells the dumbest stories ever and the tests are over completely different stuff than what you go over in class. He focuses alot on the anatomy kind of shit with the brain and ears and all the crap people just trying to get a gen ed credit do not want to hear. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!

Dr. Miller was a extremely nice man, but his class was unbearable. At first you don't think it will be bad because the tests are only over 2 chapters, but there is like 50 pages in each chapter! It's ridiclous! He has his notes on powerpoint, but he gets off topic with his own personal stories and ends up not relating anything to anything! The tests are crazy! It's nothing about what we went over! If you have no intrest in psy, like me, then you'll have a hard time stayin interested and on top of thing. I would def recommend someone else!

Dr. Miller is a very nice man who knows what he is talking about. However, the class is hard because of it's large size and because you have to study just about every night to keep up with what's going on in the class. I'm not really into Psy so that's why I got the grade that I did but those of you who are take him for Spring semester since that's only time he teaches.

It is such a chore to sit through Rich Miller's lectures. He just keeps talking and talking. The class is easy and don't get the expensive textbook if you're never going to read it (b/c it's not really required otherwise). His field of expertise is neural psychology and I wasn't in to the anatomy stuff, so it turned me off when a lot of the course focused on neural anatomy. However, if you're a science person, you might enjoy him more.

Dr. Miller focuses more on the brain and it seemed like a biology class rather than psychology. There were over 100 people in the class and the lectures were very boring. I got the book and study manual and did the reading and work in the manuals and made good grades on the tests. I got nothing from his lectures except put to sleep. I was expecting to enjoy this class, but felt like I was in biology. His tests are difficult if you do not read and study. I would not take him again if I wanted to learn about psychology

This is one of the worst classes I have ever had in my entire life. I have to say, first, that my evaluation of this class has nothing to do with the difficulty level. I've taken more challenging classes with better professors and enjoyed them very much because the professor was particularly adept at making you think. You worked hard and learned something - a concept that seems to escape Dr. Miller completely. I particularly enjoy the field of neuroscience, especially as it applies to clinical populations. I began this class with a lot of enthusiasm and, over the semester, saw it dwindle to the point that it became a huge chore to even sit through the class.
Having said all that...the evaluation posted just prior to this one is dead on. I would also like to add, though, that the tests are some of the most poorly constructed exams ever. The multiple choice questions are worded in such a way that you really can't be sure of the correct answer - VERY ambiguous. His lecture style is absolutely atrocious as well. There is no "lecture " as most people would define it, really. He has a few slides with some pictures, and the rest is just him rambling rather aimlessly through each chapter. As a result of his total lack of organization, there are almost no notes that can be taken. Also, elaboration on the points presented in the chapter is virtually non-existent. When he does elaborate, it's obvious that he's just trying to impress us with his vast knowledge of the material and his ability to apply it to people that he knows. (Pompous, pompous, pompous.) Everything I learned in this class, I learned on my own - and so will you.

Please do not ever make the mistake of taking this man for any class. Some people's retirement should never be optional. This man is a perfect example of why retirees should move to Florida.
He reads to you out of the book, does not give notes, and expects you to complete absurd amounts of work in an extremely short period of time. Yet, somehow it takes him twice as long to return your tests. Ask him why and he will become angry or defensive. Once he told our class that he had instead, "watched the big game" on TV. If you enjoy listening to someone who speaks only to hear themselves do so, you're in the right place.
So please, take my advice -- take whatever course you are think of taking him for from another person.

Final is just all of your test combined, that was cool. Still, don't take this guy unless you know him. Or sit up front and smile at him he will pay attention to you then.

Dr. Miller is focused on the brain, eyes, and ears more so than true psychology like disorders, how they function and are cared for. My class had over 100 people so no one on one time was available, but PASS sessions helped some. If you were not a good bio person, then take another professor...that what my weakness, so my grade wasn't what it probably would have been with someone else.

This is by far the worst class I've ever taken in my life!! Dr. Miller, and make sure you refer to him as Doctor, b/c he'll make it a point to remind you everyday that he is the almighty of the psyc field, is a horrible teacher. His style of teaching is extremely outdated. He puts a vaguely written outline on the overhead and talks from there, though he continuously switches from his web site power points to the textbook's website, so you could be in the middle of writing down a definition when he clears the overhead and switches to another site that gives it in a different way. Also, half or more of the class is spent listening to his neverending stories of his different research cases and patients, and how he's the President of this board or the head honcho of this organization and where he's travelled, and of his genius bloodline, including his adopted daughter from Guatemala who's supposedly a child prodigy. The mere fact that I remember all that should be a warning sign to not take his class. The final isn't mandatory, provided you average an A on his four exams, which are 60 mult. choice questions. The final is 100 questions and cumulative, and the extra credit is easy. I could've gotten an A if I'd tried harder, but everyday in there was like an inferno. My advice: take someone else.

The class is so boring. You pretty much have to learn on your own. Plus the tests and quizzes are so hard. I think maybe 3-5 people out of about 115 people made A's. Very hard class. Not recommended. Oh yeah, and even though there are so many students in his classes, he takes attendance every day. I think you can only miss 3 days.

The only good thing about this class is that he gives up to 25 ex. credit points, and drops your lowest 4 of 10 quizes, and lowest exam out of four. If you average a 90 on all your exams, you don't have to take the final. Exams are 50 multiple choice, and final 100 multiple choice. Quizes are every week. He teaches at a very high level, and doesn't explain a lot. Everything he teaches is very dry, and he uses lots of techincal terms. I didn't like the class, but I love PSY.

I'll start off being nice. He's nice. Yet, I believe he's way too advanced for teaching a 100 level class. He cracks jokes and gives personal experiences for the students to understand clearly. He's a neuropsychologist and mainly focuses on the brain and function. Extremely difficult. Tests are pretty tricky. You're able to drop one exam and quite a few quizzes. If you don't have a life, then take his class so you can study for his exams. The class was boring, and I struggled extremely for that B.

This is a very intensive course that entails covering a lot of information in a short amount of time. Dr. miller has a background in neuroscience and physiological psychology so he heavily emphasizes the brain, brain function, and neurological biochemistry. He posts a course outline on an overhead projector every class but does not give you definitions for the vast majority of the topics, that is left up to you to do on your own time. You must read the book in order to do well on the exams since he pulls some questions directly from the quizzes in the textbook. He tells a lot of personal stories in lecture to help you visualize what he is talking about and cracks a joke every now and then. A lot of people consider him to be a very difficult and dry professor but I liked him overall and did really well in his course. Review sessions are offered weekle and before exams led by an upperclassman psych major. Attendance is mandatory and he gives extra credit points throughout the semester based on certain activities. I would recommend him to others for PSY100.

When I went into this class, I expected it to be easy. But, be advised that Dr. Miller is extremely focused on the brain and it's function, as opposed to psych. disorders and things like that. He is a good teacher, but the classes at this level are so big you never really get any one-on-one.Luckily, PASS sessions are usually offered. His grading system is also pretty cool, BUT if you are not good at science, do not take him.

Overall, Dr. Miller is a good person but not a very good professor. I asked for help once and he just shrugged me off. The final is cumulative if you don't make a 89.5 average on all the test. He branches off into different personal experiences in his life to relate it to psychology and it doesn't make sense. I do not suggest any person to take his class.

Dr. Miller is very intelligent and cares about his students. He is helpful and offers review sessions before each test. He's not used to teaching undergraduate classes though. Also his specific area of interest is the brain and its chemicals, so he asks a lot about those on the tests, which are all 60 multiple choice questions. He offers a lot of extra credit, and sometimes bonus points on quizzes (10 multiple choice questions) just for attending class if attendance is low on a certain day. If you average 90 on all four of the tests, you don't have to take the final. He gives a lot of notes in class. He uses an outline of the material on an overhead projector and gives details as he talks. I took good notes and only used the book once in the class.

Dr. Miller is a very intelligent guy. However, I feel sometimes he tries to brag about what he has done instead of teaching class. His notes are vague, and you have have to read the book to do well. A good class if you are a Psychology major. You may also be exempt from the final if you average an A on four tests. You also have 8 quizs, 3 of which are dropped and 4 tests, 1 of which is dropped.
