Additional Comments |
Cantrell is an interesting guy. His lecture material usually ties whatever he's speaking about to current events, if there's some relevant link. He presents the material in a manner that's fairly easy to understand and provides lots of real-world examples of the concepts at work.
His only problem is that he'll get off-track. Luckily, he's funny as hell. He likes to target the anal retentive people of the world, and he's got loads of hilarious anecdotes about his dealings with them. He's also got lots of hilarious anecdotes about everything else on the planet, and you'll hear them as well. He's a funny guy who doesn't try to be funny.
The notes for any particular lecture may be either sparse or moderate depending on how many stories he tells that day. Unfortunately, our class size is quite large (150 students) so there's not as much interaction with the students as you'll find in other classes that are smaller. The textbook isn't too useful unless you're having a bit of trouble with something, in which case it helps to explain that concept.
The tests are all multiple choice, and can be difficult. You're going to have to think, and most of the questions come from your lecture notes.
I really enjoy his course. Sometimes he gets off-track during the lectures, but it doesn't really bother me since it usually leads to an entertaining story about one of his experiences. Caveat -- if you're one of the politically-correct folks and are offended by non-pc ideas and remarks, you might want to avoid him.
