This course focuses on investing in mutual funds, chiefly index funds. There are some overall investing principles that are covered. If you are looking for a course on how to pick stocks, this isn't it.
Dr. Wolfe knows the subject well and does a good job with the lectures. He does repeat some of the same stories throughout the semester, but it's not too bad.
The books required for the course aren't textbooks, so they are much cheaper than for other courses. He does require a student subscription to the Wall Street Journal which is around $35. If that's too much for you, I recommend splitting the cost with someone else. You only need it to read articles that he covers on quizzes and exams.
The quizzes and exams do cover a lot of material. Keep up with the reading and set aside time to study.
Regardless of your future profession, this course will be of great help in investing your future earnings. I have done some investing in the past and learned a lot.

Finance 331 is a great course and should be required to graduate WKU. This course covers a broad range of topics from rational investing to retirement. It prepares you to plan for your financial future. I highly recommend this course, but be prepared to study, it is no cake walk.

This is a very challenging course and Dr. Wolfe is very knowledgeable about the subject matter. The course is difficult mainly because it is 100% estate tax law and this area is very challenging. This course is almost all material that anyone coming into the course has never been exposed, thus a great deal of study is required. There is a mid-term and final exam for the course. The final is not technically cumulative, but all of the information builds on itself, essentially making it a cumulative final. There are attendance quizes and a few other quizzes throughout the semester. Out of 60 people in the class, I was one of 4 A's. You must study intensely and well ahead of time to do decent in this class. You will not pass this course if you do not study. He also offers extra credit for a trip to a financial planners office. This was very informative. Dr. Wolfe does a good job of preparing you for a career in financial planning.

I had this course with Dr. Wolfe, but Mr. Counts also teaches this class sometimes. Take Dr. Wolfe, but he generally only teaches this class in Winter term or Summer. This is a mostly online course, but you must come to campus for exams. The class will be around 3 weeks long and you will have a quiz every day, and 1 test per week. The quizzes cover what is on the test. This is the easiest class that Dr. Wolfe teaches.

This is a great course and Dr. Wolfe is one of my favorite professors in the finance department. There are three tests, the first two being worth 100 points each and the final being worth 125 points. These tests have are very detailed and you must put forth a great effort when studying. Study the questions at the end of the chapter, as well as the quick quiz questions within the chapters. There will be a few of these word for word on the exam, but studying these alone you will FAIL. Know your stuff thoroughly. You must attend class because he gives random attendance quizzes. There are also a few quizzes during the semester. Study just as hard for these as you do for the exam. To get a good grade in this class, devote atleast 20 hours of study to each exam and 5 hours to each quiz. There is also a Social Security project for this class that is worth 50 points total. Make sure you do it correctly. He basically explains how to do it in class, but some people don't pay attention and they in turn get a bad grade. If you have a question ask Dr. Wolfe. He is a great professor and get to know him, he is very interesting.

I am a senior doing both financial management and planning and can say that this was by far the most beneficial class I have had in college and that Dr. Wolfe is the best teacher in the department. He is both interesting and insightful. As for those who say that he doesn't help, they must not ask. His lectures are interesting and the tests are straight forward. After the first one you will have a great understanding of what will be on the next two tests. Everyone in college, and not just the business college, should be required to take this class so that they understand how to achieve our ultimate goal-retirement.

Dr. Wolfe is one of the best professors on campus. He really knows what he's talking about, and tries to relate what we're studying to real life situations. His tests are pretty tough, you really have to study to make an A, but it's not impossible. His powerpoint slides are really beneficial, not only for studying, but to get you through class. He offered us an extra credit opportunity to drive to Louisville to spend a day with a prominent financial planner, and it was WELL worth the trip! It was one of the best experiences of my college career. What you learn in this class can benefit you personally even if you don't become a financial planner.

This is by far the most useful class i've take at Western. Dr. Wolfe shows everyone the ropes on investing for the future without using an expensive broker. Dr. Wolfe knows his stuff so ask him questions dealing with 401k, Penisons, etc. The material is presented through powerpoint so it can be boring at times, but Wolfe always finds away to add humor into the lecture. If you want to be set for life you must take this class to learn the ways of investing.

This was by far the most difficult course that I've ever taken. Dr. Wolfe knows his stuff, and is a very tough teacher. His exams at first seem horrible, but after taking him for his third class, you kind of get an idea of what to study for. Make sure to study the end of chapter questions, especially the true-false, the majority of his multiple choice questions come from these. He does offer a 10point extra credit for a trip to Louisville to visit Dan Greenwell, a Financial Planner, but that's it. He also has a few attendance quizzes, if you're there you get 10 points, but other than that, the majority of your grade is made up of his three exams. He is tough, so study hard, you won't regret taking him as a teacher, he really teaches you to learn!!!

Dr Wolfe is an excellent Teacher. After taking his first VERY difficult class, I decided that I wanted him for all my classes. If you are in school to learn, you need to take his classes. If you only get through and do not care whether you even know the material after finishing school---find someone else.

This is a difficult course, and Dr. Wolfe did a great job of teaching it. He is very helpful and will gladly give assistance anytime. His tests are difficult but fair, they're all on scantrons so its MC and TF. There are 3 100 pt tests and one 125 pt final. you have some quizzes but he is always fair to what will be covered on exams and quizzes. I'm glad I took him and will be taking him again if possible in other courses.

Finance is a tough course, but I think Dr. Wolfe is a great teacher. He definitely will help you out if there is something you don't understand, and he wants all of his students to do well. Although attendance isn't mandatory, (sometimes attendance quizzes though) it is important to go to class so you don't get lost!

if you have to have 444 you dont have the option of who to take, i just wanted to write this to offer a few thoughts. if you pay attention, go to class, and actually want to learn while you are in college, you will soon find out that dr. wolfe is arguably the single greatest teacher at wku. this man has an affinity for teaching the subject, and i know i will be a better person when i leave this school because of him. if you have the honor of being in any of his classes please take full advantage of your time with him.

Finance 330 is not an easy class but Dr. Wolfe doesn't do anything to make it harder than it actually is. The best thing about this class was that you got to use a notecard for each test. Each day all you do is listen to him talk about powerpoint slides so it gets kind of boring, but at least you don't have to do anything to prepare for class. It's even ok if you miss every now and then but just hope he doesn't give a ten point free quiz on the day you miss. Along with the occasional attendance quiz he has a couple of on your own chapter quizzes that are ten points but he gives you the full ten points free on the last one just because he's a nice guy.

Dr. Wolfe isn't the best teacher. He won't give in class reviews so everybody is on their own when it comes to test time. He does help out if there is a question on the test that doesn't belong but that is the only time. Some of the answers on the quizes don't match the ones in the book. I advise taking someone else for Fin. 330. I wish I would have.

Dr. Wolf doesn't teach you anything in class. On the quizes he gave some of the answers on the quiz were wrong when compared to the book. He is the worst finance teacher that there is. He told the class that he doesn't do in-class reviews so your on your own when it comes to knowing everything in the chapter. Don't take WOLF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
