Worst teacher I've ever had since I've been at WKU. I was pretty good at math till I had her as a teacher. The HW is overkill and so are the test. She gives these lengthy study guide questions (70). everything she does is overkill.

I thought I was pretty good at math, until I had her as a teacher. She does not work with you AT ALL. If your the type of person that cannot teach themselves, i would recommend a different teacher. She gives homework every day which doesn't amount to anything. you have a quiz every weekend. and the test are VERY DIFFICULT. the amount of homework she gave us didn't mean anything. You could've not did any of the homework and made a C average on the test and STILL have a C in the class. That should tell you how much the hw is worth. If you knew what I knew, don't take her as a teacher!!!!!

In my opinion, Mrs. Harris is a wonderful person. She has a maternal quality about her and I believe she cares about her students' success. She is funny and explains things in a way that can be understood. She has emailed me on a weekly basis about my progress, which I think is very nice of her. Though I like Mrs. Harris, I do not like her class. I failed the course because of low exam grades. Her homework and reviews are strenuous and time-consuming. She lets you retake exams to reach mastery until the last few exams of the semester - which was my problem. I did not do well on her last exams (including the cumulative final). EVERYTHING is online and is annoying to use. This class will stress you out! But I believe the subject has the most to do with that... for some, math is an absolute nightmare no matter who is teaching it!

Teacher stressed that there are many ways to answer a math problem. That if you show your work and get the right answer, then you have solved the problem correctly. However, even though she stated this was the case, it was not. If you do not use her method to reach the answer, you got deducted points, regardless if you showed your work and got the right answer. Another flaw to her statement, I recall a student receiving credit for a problem they answered wrong. She said that the student explained themselves clearly enough to earn full credit. Do not take this class if easily frustrated, because at some point you will be.

Harris is the worst teacher I have ever had. DO NOT TAKE HER! I'm warning you now. Take any other math teacher, but not her. I had a 100 in math my senior year in high school and I'm taking this course a year later and I just made a 79 on a test. Her study guide had nothing to do with what's on the test. She makes you print out stupid notes for class, you can't write your own in your notebook (pointless). You have to purchase my math lab which is online and you have to do all of your homework on there. She didn't tell our class you could keep redoing it until you get a 100 on the assignments so a few people in my class, including me, haven't been getting the best grades on them because of that. I'm on the Dean's List so you would think this class would be a piece of cake for me, but it's difficult and time consuming. It's awful that she's teaching elem ed majors because she is an awful example of a teacher. One I will definitely not portray when I am a teacher. DO NOT TAKE HER FOR ANY MATH CLASS. You will regret it.

I struggle at math which was probably a lot of the reason I got a D, but I took 116-E because that's what I tested in to and it SUCKED. We met everyday and learned something new everyday so I just couldn't keep up. I turned in all the homework ontime and got a B average but the tests are hard. Good luck with this class, she isn't terrible, but I would not recommend this class.

Mrs. Harris was an amazing professor! I definitely recommend her to anyone who still needs their 116 credit! She really cares about her students and does her best to make everyone pass!
When I took her, a lot of the homework given was on a computer math program. There were questions you were required to work out on your own paper and then submit the answer online. The program would immediately tell you if you got it wrong or right and (if you kept missing it) would display the answer as well as give you a similar problem with different numbers. You have to complete at least one equation of each thing learned in class, though. If you were pressed for time, you could always keep cycling through the incorrect equations till the same one popped up that it already showed you the answer to!! Now, I obviously don’t recommend that if you want to pass the tests, but it’s a nice little outlet for a good grade if you’re rushed before the midnight deadline.
Tests were kind of hard, but doable! Despite what people say, she DOES give partial credit on things. There are plenty of times when the partial credit has saved me a letter grade on tests! First sections of test require a TI-83 calculator. Once you complete the first half and turn it in, you’ll get the second half to do by memory. She’s pretty easy as long as you study the formulas!
Finally, if you need help, GET IT. It’s not her fault if you’re too lazy to go and talk to her if you don’t understand something. Print the notes off blackboard: They help so much more than writing every little thing she does on the board. Take advantage of the math lab too! They’re great people. Mrs. Harris is great at explaining things in class and uses real PLAUSIBLE situations to help people understand.
Seriously, THIS is the teacher to take for College Algebra! Good luck!

Ms.Harris was a horrible teacher. The fact that I went to every single class and didn't miss one, yet she gave me no sympathy on the fact that I didn't have time to do homework EVERY night! She expects you to spend an hour a day just to study, print notes for every class period, homework every night, has quizes randomly, and the test are on material that she didn't even cover in our class time...we were expected to teach ourselves or quote "visit the math tudors if you don't understand." Not to mention, she doesn't give you any credit on problems that you get most of it right...she says she gives partial credit, but thats a lie. Even if you are "okay" in math, you might want to find a better professor than her.

Mrs Twyla Harris is the most terrible teacher in the universe. I know I have had bad teachers and did okay in the class, but she is not a bad teacher she is a terrible teacher. She is so picky about your grades and her stupid projects are worth so much that if you do bad on them you might as well be on waiting list for next semester. She only wants things done her way and if you question it she makes you feel really dumb. She gives so much stuff on her test in such little time and tells you to hurry up when you are taking it. The class material was not all that bad. It is just the stupid projects that really dont have anything to do with the math class, and really bring your grade down. If you take her make sure you know how to spell because she will count off like 10 points for misspelling on her projects. In conclusion, avoid this terrible math teacher, if she is even qualified to be a teacher.

Dr. Harris usually left me feeling angry and upset when I left her class. I know it is math and is supposed to be difficult, but on test I got problems marked wrong and I did not know why. Sometimes there were two of the same problems and I missed 5 points on one and 6 points on the other. She left no explanation except for, "NO!" on my paper.
Her grading scale is also terrible. I'm not sure if it is a departmental policy, but a 75% is a D. I normally make a low C in math, so a 75% is a solid C, according to me and most college professors. I believe since this is a course that the students have to get a C or higher in order to move to the next level course, the grading scale should not be RIDICULOUS -- especially in a math class.
She also misgraded one of my test by about four problems...
If you do not have to take her, don't. She will only confuse you, misgrade your tests, and leave you angry.

Pros:
-Knows what she's talking about.
-Offers help outside of class.
-Nice.
-Pretty good at teaching.
-Not many notes.
Cons:
-Assumes you don't have a class next period (keeps you over).
-NITPICKY! Answer just how she wants or lose points!
-Randomly takes up assigned homework. (Some people may not care, but when I do homework, I want it taken up for a grade!)
-Counts off for stuff she didn't mention before the assignment.
Ex.
Before the assignment:
"Oh, the lesson plan just has to contain what's on the rubric, don't worry too much about it..."
After the assignment:
"This isn't a MATH lesson plan... you lose your points for it."
"You never said it had to be a "Math" lesson plan..."
"But this is a MATH class, you should've known it had to be related to Math,"
"It is, I included all the math stuff you asked for in my Science lesson, I just didn't do it in a "Math Class" setting..."
"But it's not a math lesson,"
"I know... but I did what's on your rubric..."
(Doesn't make a difference, I lose my points. Only five points, mind you, but it's the principle of the thing.)
Anyway, I wouldn't say to "avoid" Mrs. Harris, just be ready for stuff like what I've mentioned. She's not that bad.

Mrs.Harris really makes an effort to help her students succeed in her class. She says on the first day she isn't trying to fail anyone. She drops your lowest quiz grade every test and tries to make class enjoyable, shes not boring by any means. Go to class, take notes, do the homework and you can easily make a B if you are not a Math person. If you are a Math person you can easily earn an A.

Mrs. Harris comes on as a nice lady. However, she sucks as a teacher. She grades homework so weird and confusing. but the part that sucks, its not all the time graded on effort, but if you get every 3rd problem correct. That's a bunch of bs if you ask me. The reason I failed the class was because the cumulative final was pass/fail the class. I had a B in the class but because I failed that test, I failed the class. But now I'm taking it with Susan Britt and have an A.

She would explain things well in class, but would make the problems on tests way harder than in your notes. It made you feel like an idiot, because very few people did well. Ms. Harris has a very realistic style of teaching. She teaches you how to teach the material to children, which is important in this type of class. The material is a lot of stuff that I covered in high school math classes, but Ms. Harris is a good teacher. She is always on time and is very to-the-point. She pays attention to ensure that every student "gets it." I've heard a lot worse about other teachers, so I would definitely recommend Ms. Harris.

When the semester first started, I was under the impression that it was going to be a fine class. Boy was I wrong. Mrs. Harris usually gives lectures as most math instructors do, and I was able to understand her lectures taking notes on what she had said. One thing you better be prepared to do is do HOMEWORK and lots of it. I would go home and use my notes from class to do the 25+ problems (every night) assigned and found myself lost at times. When in class I understood everything just fine but the assignments are different.
Mrs. Harris also gives lots of quizzes, sometimes 2 per week. Some are one/two problems while others are 10-20. Her tests are the hardest. Before test day she gives you a review assignment and you have the option of purchasing a copy of the answers on the review.......well they don't help because the test that she gives is again completely different than the material she covers in class.
Do yourself a big favor.....don't give Harris a second look. Hopefully she will get the idea that she doesn't know everything and maybe the university will do thereselves a favor and get rid of her.
