DO NOT TAKE DR. SHANNON! He is the laziest professor I've ever had. The day of the final I still didn't know what grade I had. He has no idea what he is talking about or yet alone know how to teach it. He is late to every class and can't even make it to the back of the room to pass out papers if you ever get one back Idk how he is still employed here, but save yourself and take ANYONE else.

His tests are IMPOSSIBLE! You must know the book inside and out to pass the tests along with the notes. The class consists of 3 exams and a TON of quizzes. I am a B-A average student and I barely passed with a C. Take Derry, Shannon was my worst mistake. There was no real sales experiences either, only tests.

Dr. Shannon is the Marketing Department head, and I have no idea how he keeps this position. I can't speak for everyone, but I know that not many students like him or the way that he teaches; he is very stubborn and spiteful as a person and in the classroom.

He tries to be nice at times, but overall does make the class very difficult since he wants his students to learn as much as possible. He gives quizzes almost every single class period which add up and account for one 100 point test grade.

Not a horrible class, but if the required class if offered by another professor, I'd say go with someone else.

Is the final mandatory? Nope. Does he offer extra credit? Yep. Only problem is you have to have a 90% in the class, which was, drum roll please, 2 people...Don't forget about the extra credit! 3 points! Not in your final grade(are you kidding?) just 3 weak points.. If you have a chance to take another class, I am advising you to do so, no matter how much of an overachiever you think you are, this jerk will burn you. For some reason this guy is pretty high up in the Marketing Department but I have no clue why. Basically, this guy is full of crap. The whole class he sits around and gives you his negative opinion on everything and don't worry about giving your feedback, it is just fuel for him to tell you why you are wrong. He did give the class the whole semester to do do a short presentation but although I did mine earlier, half the class decided to wait until the last minute. There were two weeks left of class and he gave everyone a 0 because they "didn't have enough time." After 10 minutes of making a joke of anything we asked about the final, he let class out 50 minutes early for the first time ALL SEMESTER. Then he laughed and informed us that he did bit care because we had all semester, but these 30 second presentations could have very easily been completed, or at least turned in for partial credit... NAH... He would ask us every day how he could make the class fun for everyone and he had to be doing this out of his own amusement because anyone with as much on a resume as him would know how cruel they sound...There was so much more stupid stuff that went on all semester but I'm tired of typing. Hopefully this long response helped you to make a better decision regarding whether or not to take Shannon. Don't put yourself through the agony because this guy was just a plain jerk.

The overall class wasn't that hard but the teacher is awful. He is VERY opinionated and if you disagree with anything he says then to bad, its his way or no way. All of his notes are powerpoints that he puts on blackboard and you just print them off. His tests were pretty easy but you have to put a little bit of time into studying for them. He has short answer questions on every test. He assigns chapters to read and there is a guaranteed quiz over them pretty much every class meeting and he gets really specific. I recommend reading bc your quiz scores add up to be a little more than an exam score. He assigns a big project during the semester, ours was to write and film a basic sales presentation. If you dont put A LOT of time into it then there is no way you can get over a C on it. You dont have to take the final if you have an A going into it but by the end of the semester he had made it pretty much impossible for anyone to make an A in his class. Also attendance is a big deal. You can miss 2 class and still get full points but it can make a difference in your final grade in the class.

Dr. Shannon is one of the hardest teachers I have had (which may be affecting what I'm writing now) But I don't think it's fair to expect students to know your opinion and what the book says. That's just ridiculous. He actually asks questions about his opinion on tests! Out of control. This class is my second in my minor and it's seriously making me want to change. Also, I have read for almost every quiz and I am still not doing well. He asks questions that are very nit-picky. He needs to get a grip.

Shannon is the most opinionated teacher of all time. I am not doing bad in his class at all and will have an A average as a final grade so don't think I'm writing this review because I'm pissed over a low grade.

Basically, whatever Shannon thinks goes. We have a great textbook for this class and he is constantly telling us how he disagrees with it. The tests will have questions over textbook definitions and Shannon's own personal definitions of the same term. Bullshit. He grades papers in a way that even if you have answered the question correctly, if he doesn't like the way you wrote it, you are getting a bad grade. Students who he thought did a good job on essays or papers he will ask to read an excerpt to the class and every time these people's essays are just bullshit involving Shannon and the crap he's said in class. If you do take this class, to get a good grade I highly recommend kissing his ass in every paper. For those of you who simply can't stand to do this, like myself, don't take Shannon as a teacher.

Some days in class, we won't even go over our material, he will just stand at the front of the room and talk about his opinions of things. This class has been a complete waste of time for me, I pay my own tuition and I can't believe I paid for this. Student evaluations never matter because Shannon is the head of the marketing department.

All those evaluation papers go through him anyway. I watched as almost everyone in my class wrote negative comments on the back of his evaluation even though we all knew it wouldn't matter.

All in all, and sorry for such a long review, Shannon is a nice guy but a bad teacher because he can't stop his own opinions from interfering with the way he teaches and grades. This could be a very cool class and I could have gotten a lot out of it. Honestly, taking it will only make you pissed off, even if you make a good grade like me because you will realize that you have completely wasted your time for an entire semester.

If you are taking this class right now, kiss his ass and you will make a good grade, but have fun living with yourself while doing it.

If I have any advice to anyone then it is DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!! This class should be easy but somehow he makes it very difficult. Don't expect to get good grades on your papers because he is horrible at grading them and no matter how much your right he will he will go against you. I was told that if your an athletic looking person then he will hate you for and now I believe it. Even if he is the only teacher left to take this class, don't do it!!! I hate WKU for hiring a teacher like this!!!

This will be the first Marketing Class that I have ever made a B in. This class is 100% B.S. You not only have to learn the book but you have to learn Dr. Shannon's opinions, which contradict the book, and you are tested over both. There is a quiz almost every class period, and his exams are very wordy and tricky. I think he is a crappy teacher and he is way to opinionated. His grading is absurd; he gave me a 70% on my resume, which I was told by THREE Fortune 500 companies that my resume was great. Some people probably like Dr. Shannon's class, and I am sure that they are the one's that kiss his @$$ to get a good grade. Do what you want, take him if you like, but I promise you that there is a good chance that you are going to HATE waking up a few times a week to go to Grise and listen to his BullCrap...

If you go to class and do the reading, this class isn't too bad. Most of it comes from powerpoints presented in class. About 20 to 30 percent of the exam material comes from the book. The only problem I had with this course was Dr. Shannon, he is a good guy, and can be funny from time to time, especially when he makes cracks on himself, but his teaching style is BORING!!!!!!!

If you like hearning about the Lady Toppers then this is the class. The class is extremely boring and I didn't learn anything. Most of the class was in the lower grades thus when he used a STATISTICAL CURVE GRADE it helped us. I think he can't teach and I hated his class. ESSAY ESSAY ESSAY!!! He has four essays on his exams two 5 point and two 10 point. He thinks their easy but he grades extremely hard. You have two projects due with partners and he will only give out Bs or above because no one is excellent (A).

Nice guy, bad teacher. He makes things as hard as possible on his students. He provides powerpoints on eCourses, but he stays on a set schedule which means that just because you haven't gone over a chapter in class, doesn't mean that it won't be on a test. Be ready for a quiz every class. The average grade on every test the semester I took him was a C. If you have a choice, take something else unless you want anything below an A, because you won't get an A.

I enjoyed the class. Dr. Shannon provides the notes on Blackboard, so it is easy to follow in class. He does give pop quizzes often, so be sure to read the assigned material! There were some times that I was frustrated, but he is an overall good teacher!

Most of the course exams come from slides that can be printed off the internet. This is a difficult professor good luck.

This man is the worst teacher I have had in college. I believe he is mad at the world and he takes it out in his students. He has an attitude and his loud breathing while test taking makes you want to strangle him. Don't ever take his class!

Dr. Shannon expects a lot out of his students. You have the opportunity to do three book reports, but the best two are counted. If you read the chapters prior to the lecture you should take hardly any notes at all.

This man lives to piss you off. His exams are very difficult and it takes him two weeks to grade them. If I were you, I'd find another professor.

He lectures everyday! There are days with guest speakers from different business majors--some are interesting. He is really boring! Hard to keep eyes open in class. Tests are difficult. You have to listen in class and read the chapters. Pop quizzes on each chapter.

worst teacher i have ever had in my entire life. 75% of my class is failing the class. All he does is lecture the entire class. The class is very boring and i would recommend that you never ever take him.
