A serious historian who clearly thinks other professors don't challenge students enough (and they don't). If you are a disciplined reader you'll be fine. Sadly, quite a lot of the readings don't make much sense on their own, so you'll have to do basic research (e.g.: google, wikipedia) for background information. If you still act like a kid and wait to read until the day before class you'll fail. If you want to actually study history (not useless military history and not the History Channel) then take one of his classes. Just get the syllabus immediately, buy the books early, and start reading now.
