Janice Davenport is BY FAR the WORST teacher at WKU. Se is supposed to be teaching us how to be teachers, but the only thing she is teaching is what NOT to do. She is completely unorganized and scatterbrained. She cannot stay on topic so taking notes is impossible. She will give due dates that do not even correspond to the class meeting times and then will not give any feedback. She does not tell you your grades on anything. She gives homework assignments that don't have anything to do with the topic we are covering. She assigns lesson plans and we are given the opportunity to submit them before the due date for review, but if you do so, she does not make any revisions. But then when you turn it in for the grade, she tells you that the lesson is unacceptable.
During our in the field teaches she would interupt class and critique us in front of the students. The mentor teachers even commented saying that she was unprofessional and that she was disruptive to the lesson and the class. On multiple occasions she would make snide comments to other students about another students work. The class size was only 6 people, so word got around. When asked about the comments she would deny them. If you emailed her, she would take a week to respond, which was way too late. She would lose work and blame it on us not turning it in. Her directions were never clear and 4 of the 6 students were working even past finals week, because she accepted an assignment weeks before but had not graded it yet, so we had to redo it.
AVOID MS. DAVENPORT AT ALL COSTS.
It is worth taking an extra semester of SMED classes just to avoid taking her. Ask ANYONE who took her, she is awful!!! Â
