I agree with everything the reviewer of 12/2009 said--Dr. Jones' knowledge is encyclopedic and he makes what could be a dull intro class very interesting and challenging. He sincerely enjoys the participation of students in discussions, even if they disagree with him on politics, principles or practices: he wants students to think critically. A great class and outstanding teacher.

DO NOT MISS CLASS! Dr. Jones is a good teacher and knows the material. You can learn a lot about animal science from this class. Take good notes and ask questions if you don't understand the material. Non AG majors should probably pass on this class unless you have an interest in livestock. Everything he says in class in "legal material" for test questions.

This is without doubt the most difficult class I have ever taken and I'm a senior. However, it was one of the best classes I have ever taken. I learned so much in this class. Dr. Jones is a walking encyclopedia when it comes to animals. You must come to class and pay attention to EVERYTHING he says. Write down every word if possible. He is a great instructor but will not tolerate b/s. He really wants you to learn the material he is teaching. Be ready for a quiz every day because odds are you are going to have one. I re-wrote my notes after every class session and studied at least 4 hours a week in addition to class time. If you don't understand something ASK. He is more than willing to go over things again with you, either in class or in his office. The tests are all for the most part fill in the blank and short answer. The final is cumulative and is multiple choice but don't let that make you think it's going to be easy. It will be the most difficult multiple choice test you have ever taken. There is no book required for this class but I reccomend you buy the manual that they will offer the first day of class. If you are not required to take the lab....take it anyway; it will help.

Dr. Jones is a Great teacher!!! But, he loves to get off topic. If you pay attention you learn alot, some may not be relavant to the course but it does help you in future classes and lectures. He is very intellegent man and he loves to see students interested and involved in what they are studying! Be involved and stay on his good side!

By far the hardest class in the Ag Dept. if you do not have an animal background. The whole class is set up to get rid of unqualified pre-vet majors. He teaches by his own personal knowledge and not by the book, so the text isnt neccesary. You have to attend class and write down every detail because he will pick out the most minute details to quiz or test you over. If its not required then don't take this class, you will regret it.

I didn't think this class was too difficult, but I have a fairly extensive animal science background. There are lots of quizzes, usually at least one or two per week. The good part is he lets you count them multiple times, and he only takes the 10 highest. So it's perfectly reasonable to have a A+ quiz average. The key: count every quiz the maximum number of times even if your not too confident in your answers. Mathematically it will only help you.

Dr. Jones is a very hard teacher but he knows that his class is not an easy course to teach. He gieves a lot of assignments that you can do for grade bumpers. I had a C in the class and did horrible on the final and i ended up with a B. If you come to class and he sees that you are working hard he will take in consideration to help bump your grade up with all the assignments you did. There is a lot of notes but the class is very interesting and never boring!!!!!

A few things about this class: You have to take good notes. The class is entirely lecture. (And Dr. Jones does have a tendancy to go off on tangents...) There is no textbook and no homework. There are only quizzes and tests. However, the great part about this class are the quizzes. Dr. Jones only counts the top 10 grades, but you can count quizzes multiple times. So the trick is to count them all as many times as you can even if you don't think you did so well. It's not hard to have an A or B quiz average. The final was cumulative, but it was all multiple choice.

Dr. Jones is the guy who knows everything about everything about Agriculture. He just talks and writes on the board and answers questions for the whole class time. You have to take notes, and think about the concepts that he's trying to get across. There are quizzes often and cumulative midterm and final, with study sessions before the final. It takes a significant amount of studying, and if you don't attend you don't have anything to study. I really enjoyed the class and learned a lot. No reason you can't get an A if you make an effort.

UNIVERSITY EXPERIENCE IS AN EASY CLASS ANYWAYS, BUT THE GREAT THING ABOUT HIS CLASS IS THAT I FORGOT TO TURN IN THE FINAL PAPER AND DR.JONES STILL GAVE ME AN "A". THIS PAPER WAS THE ONLY HOMEWORK DUE FOR THAT CLASS. I ATTENDED ALMOST ALL OF THE CLASSES AND HAD EXCUSES FOR THE ONE I MISSED.

This was the hardest class that I have ever had, and I have had Physics 250! It is hard to follow him during class and hard to get his point. His quizes and tests are extremely hard and seem impossible. Don't get me wrong, he is a great guy, I like him, he is just a hard teacher. If you miss class you may miss a quiz, cause he doesn't tell you when they will be. Only take this class if you have to.

This is a hard course. Dr. Jones intends it to be that way. All tests are comprehensive and no multiple choice. More than likely studying will be difficult because it is hard to take notes in the class. He jumps around to different subjects and it is hard to keep up. Extra credit might be available, it really depends. Usually it is his graduate assistants that offer the extra credit, not him.
If you take this course, be prepared to study very hard unless you have a good understanding of all the concepts he discusses.

Dr. Jones is a great teacher. He knows everything about animal science. However, this class should NOT be taken if you are not a pre-vet major. Don't let the positive rating fool you, its a difficult class, but if you study you'll make a good grade. He gives pop quizzes almost every class, so you MUST come. If you are pre-vet, there is no way around Gordan Jones. If you get on his good side, he will be your ticket to Auburn. If you do not put forth effort and make failing grades, you can kiss vet school goodbye. If you are looking for an easy elective, this is NOT the class for you. If you are looking to learn a lot about farm animals and the agricultural industry, this is your favorite class.

Dr. Jones knows his material very well, but can very difficult and not just in this class but others he teaches. HE EXPECTS everyone who walks into his classes to be on the same level as himself and he will pick out one person and pick on them throughout the semester, SO be prepared for this. Expect quizes ever class period.

Dr. Jones was a great teacher. I learned a LOT in his class, because he kept my interest. I didn't have the opportunity to be bored or daydream in the class because his enthusiasm is contagious. It was absolutely the hardest class I've ever taken, but it was worth it. Be prepared for a quiz EVERYDAY, because you never know when he is going to spring one on you.

Gordon Jones is a true jackass, he expects you to know everything that he does. As long as your in class everyday you'll be fine, because he notices who comes to class and who doesn't and your grade reflects that no matter what you get on the test. Quizes once if not twice a week, so be prepared, there not easy. I did horrible on every quiz and still made a B, but I was in class everyday. The test you take on the first day is your final exam, he looks at what you know when you came into class and then finds outs how much you've learned throughout, so do bad on purpose the first day.

I really enjoyed this class. Dr. Jones goes out of his way to teach this class to people of not only farm, but all backgrounds. Anyone who is remotely interested in animals must take this class. It gives each student a good appreciation of how animals affect the world in which we live in. Dr. Jones gets to know all his students and rewards students with the grade that they earn.

I really thought that Dr. Jones was an excellent teacher and I would take him for another class in an instant. He is a very energetic and motivated teacher; therefore, this class takes work. You must study your notes pretty frequently because he gives pop quizzes throughout the semester. If you deserve an A, you will get an A because he is very understanding. Also, if you enjoy Animal Science, you will learn alot in this class and miss it when it is over. Also, if you can, you can take Animal Science 141 which is the lab for this class. I also found it to be very enjoyable.
