This guy is an idiot. He can't teach, is unorganized and uncaring. The idiot would work a problem on the board, get confused in the middle of it and then say, and I quote "you get the picture". WHAT THE HECK!!! Dude is such an idiot. I don't know how him (or Borland for that matter) got through grad school. He offers so much extra credit and my theory is that it is because he sucks so bad at teaching that no one would pass without his extra credit. The econ department, for the most part, is junk here at WKU. This professor sucks!! AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!!

You have 12 quizzes and one cumulative final. Quizzes are every friday and they're pretty easy and he does drop the 2 lowest grades. Be sure to read the links he gives you on Blackboard, there are always at least 2 questions about them.
If you are really studious and can read the textbook with no problems, then you don't really need to show up for class save for the quizzes, as HE is the one the wrote your textbook, so your lectures are pretty much word for word the textbook.

This class was online. I have no opinions on Professor Strow's class in the classroom. This class was awful. He was the worst professor ever. He does absolutely nothing for the class. He gives a list of things to read. He gives 6 quizzes and 1 of them is dropped. There is no lecture or supplements that he gives you. There are PowerPoints but they are from the book manufacturer. I would not recommend this class to anyone. Like I said though, this was online not in the class.

I took this class online. I thought it was going to be an easy course, well I was wrong! The quizzes were very difficult and tricky. (I even read the book, watched power point slides, and did the study guides he gave) According to blackboard, I was failing!
Well, I gave him a good rating, because at the end of the course he went in and he curved the tests! So, on one I made like a 55 and he curved it to a 78! That is great! So I ended up not failing and actually made a very high grade!

Dr. Strow is an excellent teacher. He really makes economics interesting. He is really funny, and uses good examples to help you remember what he's teaching. Every Friday there is a 10 question quiz, and he drops the two lowest quiz grades. The only test is the final. No papers just quizzes, which he gives you practice problems on blackboard, and tells you which articles to read. I highly recommend his class.

If you take him just get ready for his "FREE TRADE CREATES WEALTH!!!!" lecture; It's halarious! He is very helpful and even though he doesn't require a book, you may want to get one for the final becuase it is tough. Make sure you keep all your notes and old quizzes. Dr. Strow is by far one of the best profs at WKU. I hated my micro class before this & after his class I actually liked econ. He is always entertaining & has a good sense of humor; he makes the class fun. You have plenty of chances for extra credit by playing review games & volunteering in class. The exams are pretty hard - make sure you read the Economist articles and know the random facts he says in class about different countries. Overall, Strow is an awesome prof & would definitely recommend him.

Dr.Strow is awesome. He makes the class interesting and I was surprised that I lasted for almost 4 hours, in his winter term class, without falling asleep. He'll tell you which graph is important and which is he's only using as example. Unlike his wife,Claudia Strow, I didn't know when to pay attention and when to draw the graphs. Take Dr.Brian Strow you'll have fun and actually lear something.

This class is definately hard, but it's not Dr. Strow's fault. His lectures are really fun and interesting. He can actually make you laugh while talking about taxes or trade! I came into this class wanting to do just enough to get by, but I actually learned a lot in this class and I didn't even realize it at the time. Dr. Strow has become one of my favorite teachers at WKU.
Now, his tests really are tough. You have to study quite a bit to do well, but it is possible to make a B and even an A. Plenty of people did. His final is cumulative, but a lot of his questions are repeats from old tests. You have to read the Economist which is tough, but there are usually only 3-5 questions on each test about that. You really don't need the textbook!

Brian Strow is awesome. I am actually switching my minor to Economics just so I can take more classes with him. He is just a cool guy who also happens to be a fantastic teacher. He makes things very clear to you and usually keeps the class entertained with his attempt at humor.
His tests are a bit difficult, but not too bad as long as you study. Plus, he grades on a curve. He says that you are required to subscribe to the Economist because there are always 2-3 questions from articles he assigns to read on the test. (Except on the final.) I'm going to go ahead and say not to worry about the Economist. Even if you read the articles, sometimes you still miss the questions cause they can be confusing. And missing 2 or 3 multiple choice questions isn't going to hurt you too much. If you take notes and study for the tests, you should easily be able to pull off an A.
A bit of advise...if he gives you handouts: STUDY THEM. Especially on the last test before the final. If you don't know the information on them...you'll be sorry.

He was understanding but said that he had a strick no make-up policy. He said if he did have a policy i would definately qualify for a make-up under the circumstances, but since he didn't have a policy i was out of luck. i dropped the class because i was on schedule to get an A, but after i wasn't allowed to make up the quiz i missed i was probably going to get a B. He is very arrogant, and can't spell worth a shit. I can't believe the city of Bowling Green elected such an uncompassionate County Commissioner. But his quizes and test trip people up. i read everything and studied my notes and he still always trips me up on a few questions on the quizes or tests. you have 4 test and i think 4 quizes in there, and he drops the lowest quiz. he will give you an opportunity to do extra credit but its an essay paper, and all the paper does (if u do it how he wants it) is drops the lowest quiz grade.
i would say the best thing about this class, is he's laid back, a younger teacher, funny, and he CURVES ALL GRADES!! buts it is still a semi-difficult class.

Dr. Strow is a young guy who loves teaching and loves economics. He knows his subject and is effective at presenting it in a manner that is easy to understand. He's very enthusiastic and makes the material interesting, no matter how boring it is.
Be prepared to take a lot of notes and draw graphs over and over and over again. He uses lots of current events to convey the concepts, which makes them a bit easier to grasp. He's also prone to make lots of jokes (and half of them are bad, but of the so-bad-they're-good variety, which means you'll remember them when taking a test), which serves to keep things upbeat.
I didn't really find the textbook to be of much use. If you're having trouble understanding something in your notes, it might help you out a bit, but otherwise, don't bother. You have to subscribe to The Economist magazine, and there are always a few test/quiz questions from some of the articles. If you've got the lecture/textbook stuff aced, forget The Economist and don't worry about it.
Your lowest quiz grade is dropped, and your next lowest quiz grade can be dropped if you submit an extra credit paper. The tests and quizzes *will* require perparation and some good study time, but he offers sample tests/quizzes and a voluntary review session before each one. Take Uncle Lee's advice and work the samples and attend the reviews.
I like the guy, I like the way he presents the material, and I like the fact that I'm understanding it all.

This is a great class for the honors program. It’s also a good supplement to any other econ class. There were only three people in my class, so participation was a necessity. We read two interesting books for class and discussed certain chapters every week (also wrote a few papers about them) and then read another book outside of class and wrote a final essay about it. This is a discussion class, so Dr. Strow had the same role in the class as we did. Be ready to think quickly, form opinions, and defend those opinions. Overall, I really liked this class.

He relates to his students very well and is always very helpful during office hours to go out of his way to make sure you understand the topics. He does offer extra credit and you get to drop your lowest quiz out of 4 quizzes and write a paper to replace your 2nd lowest quiz. Tests are difficult and tedious. A textbook isn't required, but a subscription to the most boring magazing on the face of the Earth, The Economist, is. The articles are very hard to understand and they all seem to say the same thing, but you btter know them because they are on the quizzes. He gives 7 quizzes, a midterm and final during the semester. I took both micro and macro with Strow and I'm very glad I did. He gives plenty of examples and is very willing to explain any concept that is confusing...so feel free to ask questions. He is very helpful and does little things throughout the semester to keep the class interesting (like auction off candy to explain a concept). I would strongly suggest taking Strow.

Brian Strow is an incredible professor. He goes out of his way to help students. He offers many extra credit opportunities. He explains the text very well and makes microeconomics as interesting as microeconomics can be. Definitely take him for any economic class you can.

He tries to make the material more interesting, which helps you to stay awake. He also gives about a 10 point curve on all exams, and you can drop a quiz grade.

He does not realize it is a principals class and comes up with things on the test that you have no way of knowing. He also asked certain questions to try and make you get it wrong.
